Looks like a comedy version of EAST Side Story.

Stephen Chow? He uses a lots of dry Asian humor in his film, I'm not sure if the American audiance is going to understand it or not. His last attempt for hollywood (Shaolin Soccer) was a failure.

They weren't really Hollywood attemtps. The movies were made for the asian market first.

agree with the above... i mean shaolin soccer was made in Chinese... definitely not hollywood.

asian directors trying to make it in hollywood is like john woo and broken arrow, and ang lee and the hulk. i guess they've both made it.

I loved Shaolin Soccer, so I'll give Kung Fu Hustle a look. And BTW, Shaolin Soccer only failed in the States because Miramax didn't know what to do with it. The movie set box office records in Asia. Hell, they almost screwed up with Hero before Tarantino stepped in.

I watched this movie in Hong Kong last month when it came out. It's one of the most ridiculous, absurd movies ever...some cool fight scenes, but a lot of cheesy lines and ripoffs. Pretty much what most HK movies are like, especially Stephen Chow's. I thought the film was okay but not great.

If you only watch American films, you probably won't appreciate this flick. There's a lot of stuff in Stephen Chow films that people here just won't think is funny.

Stephen Chow is one of the most popular movie(comedian) star in Asia. He's a box office hit everywhere in Asia. He's lastest movie "Kung Fu" has set many records in China and Asia, and let me tell you what, HE'S MY FAVORITE MOVIE STAR. He's movies are funney as HELL. He's movies are the only one that I'm willing to go out and pay to watch it.

Of course, there's no doubt that it won't be as good as the original version when it translate into English or other languages. If fact, it might screw everything up that's good about the movie.

Sort of like the movie Hero? It was beautiful to watch, but I thought the translation of it was missing something.
