That's funny yet sad at the same time. And I agree with the rest of your comments, although my knowledge of the movie industry is a little limited. Just out of curiosity, do you know of any other movies based on games? I only knew about a few before I read that article that I mentioned earlier, and that article didn't list all of them (DOA and Spy Hunter for example). Just curious to see if any of my favorite games are being translated into film. Also, do you know anything about the Silent Hill movie? I haven't followed it that much, but I kind of hope that it isn't butchered. I think it may have some potential if they could somehow take the tension and "freakiness" of the games and put them into a movie. Thanks for the info. I'm still not quite sure if I'll be looking forward to the movie, but I guess I'll just wait and see what happens.
Ehh, looks like that last AvP movie. What they need to make is a movie of THE MONKEY ISLAND SERIES . Thats the BEST adventure game series EVER! ARrrrrrr! That or Full Throttle, if any of you have heard of them.
This be my 10,000th post and I'm doing what I like to do, talk about movies: Off the top of my head, films you haven't mentioned are Halo, though I'm sure you are well aware that's being made and God of War. GOW will probably be the fastest game to movie ever. I don't know much about Silent Hill. I know the writer is Roger Avary and he was Tarantino's writing partner. He wrote updates or a blogged about his writing of the script. He like moved to France or something to work on it. I'll that down. I guess it's based on the first game, but I never played it. Here's the plot rundown from IMDB, can't vouch for accuracy though: Of course everybody working on it says it's faithful to the game, but since I've never played, I can't confirm that. Oh, the director is the guy who directed Brotherhood of the Wolf.
Heard of them, but I didn't own a pc when those games came out. Of course, if you love those games, you'll love Psychonauts since the guy who created those games started his own studio and Psychonauts is the first game they put out. I saw a thing about him on G4 this weekend. They have this show called Icons where they focus on a particular franchise or game designer or company.
I knew a little bit about those two (mentioned them briefly in my first post of the thread). I just remember them talking about the rights to each though. I can't even remember who got the rights to each. And the GoW movie does seem a little too quick for my tastes. Personally, while I liked the story, I'm not sure how well it will translate to a movie. I like the gameplay aspect of the game much more than the story, and that is what worries me about a movie. Sounds ok, although I think they switched from a father to a mother. To be honest, I mostly just played Silent Hill 1, and that was like 5-6 years ago (pre-PS2 time). I saw bits and pieces of the other ones when a friend of mine played them though, and I just loved the atmosphere of each game. Since I obviously don't know/remember much about the story, I don't care too much if they stray from the storyline too much if they can create the right atmosphere. That would be awesome. Thanks for all the info and congrats on your 10,000th post. I love his work. Not only did he create some great games in the past, but he screwed Microsoft big time with Psychonauts. I forgot the exact numbers, but that game was being funded for like 4 years and cost like $10 million. And then Microsoft didn't even publish the game. I don't even have to play Psychonauts to like the game.
