    he already played the games necessary to have portland pay his salary. i think he scored 13 points. hes a sevicible player after all :D . stupid portland thought they would make fools out of the nba. imagine all those young players with potential and then all that salary cap money. a little greedy are we

    To be honest I'm not sure why they went to such drastic measures to avoid the tax. The owner is one of the richest people in the world. I think he can actually pay the salaries of the entire NBA organization for a year. Its not like Allen is some stingy b*stard-during the Jailblazer years Portland was the NY off the west when it came to salary/winnings ratio. He already showed he's willing to pay over the tax, why the desparate measures? Unless the Blazers were aiming for the 2010 Free agent sweepstakes. Imagine if the Blazers managed to get a marquee FA and add it to Oden, Roy Aldridge and Fernandez...yeesh!

    Yeah 18 million to a billionaire is like 2000 bucks to an average person. People have killed for less, hehe...

    people who are wealthy, stay wealthy for a reason. and it's not b/c they throw away chucks of money even if they can.

    Technically, they already decided to spend that money because they foolishly signed him to that contract. They got lucky when it seemed his career was over, but now that it turns out he can play they just have to pony up what they had already committed too in the first place. So they aren't just "throwing away chunks of money."
