who is your insurance company? that is when your policy was renewed...correct? 20% for a single traffic ticket seems extreme.
I was with Allstate for the past 15 years. I am switching to Geico in August. Yes - the increase came into effect when my policy was renewed. I agree it seemed excessive - and I always thought when I took DD - my insurance company didn't find out about my previous traffic tickets - so I'm at a loss for words... but just wanted to share my experience with you before you decide to skip DD altogether. Maybe my situation is unique though - but something to think about for you...
45 in a 20 (school zone) 40 in a 30 70 in a 55 37 in a 30 77 in a 70 35 in a 30 (this last section out in VA) failure to maintain control 70 in a 55 75 in a 55 (reckless, plead down to regular speeding) I think that's all of them. And hey, i've been good for over a year and a half now!
Let me put it this way... I got 9 warnings before my first ticket and 28 tickets before my license was suspended in 1991. I went from driving a Porsche 928 to a freaking scooter for two years. And yes, I was the butt of many of my friends jokes back then. Since, I've always followed all moving laws, yet, I'll still procrastinate the hell out of renewing things, which has landed me in trouble also.
Where's the 20+ choice? I used to have long hair, and it was like I was a freaking cop magnet. I got 3 tickets in the space of a month for going 5 mph over the speed limit on the freeway. I easily had 20+ citations. I cut the hair off 7 years ago and not one ticket since.
I went with deferred disposition. It doesn't cost any more over the fine, there is only a 30 day probation period before it's wiped off the record (assuming no further tickets), and defensive driving plus the fine would have cost about $30 more...plus the lost six hours learning junk we all know anyway (along with another trip to the courthouse with the paperwork). I guess I got a ticket in the right city. I just need to slow down a little for a while.
