I've cried and got out of a ticket before. I'm expecting my first ticket thanks to the red light cameras any day now.
I forgot to mention that 1 of my tickets was for 90 in a 65, but it was totally worth it because I was driving alongside some of these guys as they passed through Houston... When we (a Dinan 335i, a Corvette, a Rolls Royce, & myself in a 300ZX TT) were pulled over, the cop was pretty cool with me. He asked me what cars I had seen that day, and when I mentioned a black Ferrari, he said "yeah...I just gave that guy a ticket on the other side of town". Funny thing is, before I got pulled over I had been chasing that same Ferrari for about 10 minutes. Then the cop said I shouldn't be out there trying to keep up with those guys because their cars were built for that and mine wasn't (which isn't true). Anyway, after he ran my license he still came back and gave me the ticket, despite being so easy-going about the whole situation. Oh well. I should state that I know how stupid it was to drive at that speed (and higher at times) on a public freeway. That ticket (my 3rd in a two year span) went a long way in convincing me to leave that whole lifestyle. The car is at my parents house now and I don't even drive it anymore, so...lesson learned.
In my 10 years of driving, all of this was in the first 5 years: I got pulled over 7 times I was issued 4 tickets None of them ever went on my record (thank you defensive driving!)
I have no idea. I've gotten a lot. Might be more than 20 in 17 years of driving. When I get them, I get them in bunches. I'll go 2 or 3 years without one and then I'll get 3 in a period of a month or 2.
Nope, that "loophole" still exists. I have got about 12 tickets since i started driving 6 years ago and none of them are on my driving record. My tickets were spread out all over texas and spread pretty evenly over time as well. All you have to do is make sure you spread your tickets out with time and with counties and that way you can essentially get as many tickets as you want. It will just cost you a good amount of money depending on the counties and what they want you to do to get it off your record.
When you run the red light and get caught by the camera...is that really a ticket that goes on your record or just a fine?
I've been pulled over 3 times and given a ticket once. The one time I got one was in my neighborhood in Katy for failure to come to a complete stop. Needless to say, I now stop completely at stop signs...
I've been caught by several red light cameras (I live in the Galleria area) but I haven't gotten a ticket in the mail yet (knock on WOOD!) I think it is because i don't have a front license plate on my car and the city doesn't know who to mail the ticket to? I surmise this because when i run through a yellow light with the top down in my car - the flash from the camera blinds me to no end. as for the question at hand - i average one speeding ticket a year - even with a very high end radar detector - but that's always b/c i forget to plug that damned thing...
The pic they send you is of your rear license plate. I got one about 7 months ago, going through the intersection of Hillcroft & the Southwest Freeway. $75.
Interesting... I wasn't sure. Well - maybe the flash was catching someone behind me? I won't question it - I'll just be happy.
speaking of traffic tickets, i got one a few weeks ago for doing 10 mph over. i think i'm just going to pay it seeing as how i haven't had one for over 3 years. isn't it texas law that my insurance rates cannot be raised for paying a traffic ticket? i know if you get too many...your insurance can drop you. but, they can't raise rates over one speeding ticket offense...can they? i really don't want to take defensive driving and i don't want to pay extra for a probationary period. i just want to pay it and forget it.
I paid the ticket I got in 2006 - didn't take DD for the first time for a ticket b/c i was lazy. My insurance rates went up by 20%. I'm an idiot.
After going on a police ride along I have come to a conclusion that radar detectors are worthless. Most cops don't have them on at all times, they only turn them on when they want to clock someone...so they already see you...even if you slow down its too late
