yeah but the total cost of the ticket is $180. So is $70 really a bargain when $70 is a HUGE portion of the TOTAL FINE??. ..and that $70 doesnt guarantee dismissal and you could ask and get the same deal the lawyer can? most of these lawyers, and the DA have no intention of going to trial. They say all kinds of things, and they leave withe DA then come back ,and have a prescripted offer from the DA when the whole time the DA and the lawyer are talking about golf or their grandchildren. This does 2 things.. it feigns that the lawyer is the man, and has 'the city wrapped around his finger', and for you it solidifies that this guy is 'really working for me' to get that deal. from the city point of view the DA doesnt have to worry about going to trial,, and risking losing the trial (and getting a mark against he/she), and the city gets a seemingly guaranteed fine amount, albeit less. Also because its adjucation is for 6 months, the city can bring it up if you fail again, and they can end up getting paid more for that too !Heck you make violations sounds like a good bet to me.

    heres the lawyer script btw
"listen judge (insert name of judge) is really mad today. He knows that you have a weak case. Anything can happen with a jury, and we will have to be here all day. Honestly (insert name) this judge is real tough. I looked at that intersection on (insert name ) (long pause rant about old transportation law you learned in law school, and make it seem like the lawyer has actually studied your case by working, and by quoting some detail about the street or the intersection, perhaps even an anecdotal story about another case that happened at that intersection where they lost, and the jury hit them hard.. all dramatic effect this is where the lawyer really earns, and gets to really shine)..

so (insert name) the DA has thankfully offered us a plea option ,and I think you should take it. They are offering deferred adjucation, and in 6 months,it wont show on your record, and you only pay $50!!After 6 months it will be off your record (insert name). I tell you (insert name) this is the way to go ever since (insert name of current mayor) came into office.. he/she is really cracking down on revenues, and the city is trying to make up for it on this traffic stuff.

My hands are tied (insert name)since you DID commit the offense right (insert name) ?? btw (insert name) I just saw the cop ( he might not even be there for real or not and could still show but remember lawyer is going by script)

so he's here , and this case probably won't get heard until MUCH later in the day after lunch.Do you want to stay here all day (insert name)??

It's up to you(insert name) let me see what else I can do.. wait I just talked to the DA ,and he will also kindly not charge you court fees (there are none but it sounds nice to sell the settlement too

and I got him to reduce the fine $5 more dollars gosh these guys are really working us tough today (insert name)!!
still though (insert name ) that's one of the stronger offers Ive seen this month. I dont see them bending any more with the (insert japan earthquake, bad economy, mayor elections, etc) happening

so what do you want to do (insert name)?"

Wash rinse repeat $70 thank you drive through.

I was assigned to administer some traffic cases in municipal for this state agency I work for. I often ran into junior lawyers that worked for Kubosh. I ran into a lot of traffic lawyers down there. The name Kubosh stands out. I don't remember the others.

    Kubosh
    Sullo and Sullo
Citizen (where kind of cheaper but it seems they had way too many cases at once)

They have always dismissed my tickets so it's worth it man. I'm not sure how they do it, perhaps they have Harry Potters magic wand, but as long as I have a clean record I don't care.

thank you. btw I hired a lawyer earlier this year on business matter, and she won for me. I am down with lawyers when the situation makes sense.

If you had multiple offenses ,and a suspended license plate I might say a traffic lawyer is worth it since he might be able to get a better plea or even take to trial ,and say a few things here ,and there that could help to bring down the number on a case of a guilty. But not for a $180 one offense ticket!

you are funny. You post a thread asking if a traffic ticket lawyer is worth it, I say no not necessarily , I recommend an option I explain why ,and my option would cost you 0 if you win, and I am an ass?

I hope the rest of your day is as pleasant as you are you tool.

Does having a lawyer help? sure it does I don't question that but spending $70 on a lawyer for a $180 ticket when there is no assurance it will be dismissed is penny smart and pound foolish.

I am the ass, and you are the DUMBass so I guess it's all good. A fool and his money are soon parted. Go spend almost 60 to 70 % of the total fine in lawyer fees ,and reduced amount guilty fees ..I'm all for that you idiot.

good luck man! They may just arraign you and try to reschedule for a later date for actual case... sounds late in the day for a case. They could be on the 'bring you back over and over' ploy hoping you will slip and miss your court. They want you to plead guilty, and get as much as they can from you. So if you are willing to give it time, and fight all the way ...plead not guilty, and let them reset the date or if court today for trial be prepared to try and wait them out. Sometimes the cop will even leave having already been present. Lots of these coppers do traffic duty and off duty stuff so sometimes they can't be there all day for the court. Resetting is the ploy for this as we have discussed in the thread.

Most of all be confident and that you will fight until death and you have awesome evidence ( even if you don't ) with the DA.. this will either get the plea you want, get it reset, set in motion the wait game to hope cop leaves or doesnt show, or bring you to trial. the do not want trial on every case so you do have to consider the case itself. Do I take their plea? is it multiple violations or just one?

Remember the DA will try to intimidate and remember the DA is not the one deciding.. its either a judge or jury.

also right before talking to DA(prosecutor) listen to this

    GOOD LUCK

What if the turn was obviously illegal? (I was under a decent amount of stress after missing my turn like 3 times that day)

It was right by I-10 and gessner, and I was one lane away from the only other turn lane to take a left. I took a left from the middle lane and the cop got me.

I understand taking it to court without a lawyer could cost me less, but what about being guilty clearly and then not pleading guilty? lol. How do I build a case when I clearly knew what I was doing?

Ended up getting deferred disposition and having to pay court fees etc of about $260... That's about 10 bucks more than my ticket would have cost to simply pay off.

The judge was simply rescheduling people who plead not guilty, and after spending 2 hours in the court, the last thing I wanted to do was come back again. I plead no contest and she was like ok, pay this amount and get out of here.
