The I-10 HOV is a totally different animal. I just don't see why the 45, 290, and 59 HOV lanes were closed for a week.
Screw that. I usually take the Washburn tunnel to work and it's expected to be closed for another two weeks. And a healthy EAD to the guy who lost a tire and backed up traffic on the beltway 8 bridge this morning, and to the three trucks who closed off a lane yesterday going home. I don't see how you people can handle the highways every day. I friggin' hate it and miss my usual 20 minutes drive home. These hour long commutes suck ass!
Seriously. FOR THE LOVE OF GOD, START CHARGING FOR TOLLS AGAIN! Every Tom, Dick, and Jane is on the Beltway now, and it's highly, highly annoying. Oh, and one more request for the city of Houston: If a traffic light has power and has been blinking FOR DAYS, fix the damn thing... before I decide to fix it myself.
maybe it's time to revisit an old thread? having lived in LA, I can feel your pain...that's why I now live and work in the burbs...
I don't understand why the tolls are still free, but I know now I'll never complain of the cost ever again..
Why not use the westpark tollway (while its still free). They haven't had any jams, and I'm suprised more I-10 folk aren't flooding it.
I love the Free Tolls The way it should be Those freeways have more than paid for them selves now it is just pure profit at the fleecing of the masses Rocket River
It normally takes me 35 min to get to work. The past 2 days it took me almost 1.5 hours. I drive from Pearland to Downtown and traffic has been really bad around 288 and Beltway.
The thing that pisses me off is that 290 has also been the worst I have ever seen it, and I listen to the radio stations in the mornings for their so-called 'traffic reports', and they don't even MENTION 290. Come on radio stations! This is the most blatant admission ever that the only reason you have a 'Brinkman Roofing Traffic Desk' is to steal money from Brinkman Roofing! When the person doing the traffic has maybe 30 seconds to do it, and 20 of those seconds are spent on advertising instead of doing an actual traffic report, then YOU RADIO STATIONS SUCK! I AM LOOKING AT YOU 610, AND YOU 740!!! It's time for these sponsors of these specific little radio tidbits to start demanding that the things their names are attached to actually do what they are paying the stations to do, and that is NOT only to have their name shouted out there in radio-land!! GRRR
You may get lucky and have little traffic at that time, but that'd be an anomaly. I-10 traffic towards Katy has been building up around 11a. It was backed up past 610 yesterday around 11:30a. I'm the same boat as you and Swoly-D, since I'm staying in Katy until I get power. I'm trying to find a metaphor for the utter misery I endure to and from work. It's a crappy feeling to be helpless and knowing the issue is so enormous that you can't even put a dent towards the solution.
I've tried to get creative going to and from work, but nothing seems to be paying off. I live in the center of Pearland, and I work in the medical center. It takes me about 1 hour and 15 minutes to 1 hour and 30 minutes to get home, whereas it used to only take me an hour (including a shuttle ride). Going to work hasn't been that bad until this week, and each day, it just seems to be getting progressively worse. The beltway got RIDICULOUSLY backed up this morning, and it doesn't help when the people start clogging up the lane next to the turning lane that gets you onto 288 because then they all want over (cute). Sorry, but you're not more important than me and everyone else who has to go to work. You could've gotten in that line, too. Then those people start illegally turning, and the people in the turning lane who have been legitimately waiting get royally screwed over. When I try to take the backroads, I always end up at some kind of roadblock and end up having to backtrack repeatedly only to end up somewhere else that's really backed up. It's already giving me a headache--I don't know how I'll hold out till November.
Oh that pisses me off to no end. It makes my day when I can screw one of those assholes over and make them take a way they don't want to go like when they try to cut me off at 610 south at I-10 and I don't let them over and they have to go 610 north. I got a guy at Grand Parkway and I-10 yesterday who couldn't believe my nerve of not letting him over even though he was trying to get over whether I was there or not.
No kidding. I try not to piss people off too bad, but if I can help it, I'm not letting one of those people over. Now, it's different if we're already on the freeway and someone needs to get over so that they can exit or get onto another freeway. When I normally take OST to 288, I have to get over at least three lanes just so that I can head towards Pearland, and it pisses me off to no end when no one will let me over. I'm always scared to death that I'm going to get into an accident since I practically have to force myself in! I always use my blinkers, so it's not like I'm not giving them a heads up. But when people are just being lazy and self-important and don't want to wait in line, then that just aggravates me. It wouldn't be so bad if so many people didn't try to get away with it. The sad part is that they usually do, and they usually end up screwing me (and dozens of other people) over anyway. At least the lights on OST all seem to be working now.
I was watching the news this afternoon and they said as of midnight tonight the toll roads will no longer be free. I was eating some Doritos at the time so I'm not sure if they said all the toll roads but they did mention the westpark tollroad.
Got this in an e-mail today: Fort Bend County will resume collecting tolls on the Westpark and Parkway toll roads at 12:01 a.m. Thursday, September 25, 2008.
