Apparently the Wizards were willingly to pay Trae Young his next contract.

I kinda like this for the Wizards. Looking at their cap space you can see why they could afford to resign Trae to an absurd contract while they hope their young core develops. They still will probably finish bottom 5 this year and could walk into a top 3 pick this year. They could be a lower eastern playoff team in 2-3 years if they get a top 3 pick and have their young core mostly hit.

Ultimately, the Wizard's success will depend on the young core and if they get a great player in this year's draft.

Desire, he has not been an All Star for couple years now, not really deserving any hype.

He can put up big numbers on the Wizards and thus get paid

Leave it to the Wizards to overpay for players that don't do anything to help win games. They are forever stuck in mediocre land.

Well they got Kispert out of it. He might be next Deni Advija the way he has played

I mean they got Young for Corey Kispert essentially. CK is not very good lol. They didnt even have to give up a protected second round pick wtf. I think this is the lowest price a relatively healthy all star has been acquired ever.

Its a massive ripoff by the Wizards IMO even if you're not the biggest Young fan getting him for nothing is ridiculous.

I wouldn't have given the Hawks anything more than that .... Young is just an inefficient chucker.

One of the worst defenders in the league on top of that.

Hell I might have tried to get the Hawks to eat Khris Middleton's contract too ....

I think it makes sense for the Wizards honestly, they want to be relevant, a playoff appearance next season is a nice goal to have for a young team.

The Knicks were good before Melo got there. Amare was leading them. It was the Melo trade that messed the chemistry up.

Overpay? It's basically an expiring & a backup, no draft assets, to add a PG to a team that didn't have one

Even if Trae Young is a complete bust, it's a fantastic risk reward trade for them

Trae Young has a $48.9 million player option for next year... there was no way we would give up pretty much everyone else for him.

I am glad that temptation has been removed from Stone. It would have been a huge mistake. We already have our PG for the next decade + in Reed.

Young averages 58% TS I dont think thats bad especially for a volume shooter. While he is pretty bad defensively I think the playmaking makes up for it a bit, he averages 11 ast to just 4 tos. I agree Young isnt worth the max but I think his salary is now in the 40s when the max rises to 60s after next year.

. If you look at Fox people said the same things but he is playing great for SAS now and a large part of the reason Spurs are 9-2 without Wemby

There is no way we can get another max salary on top of KD and Sengun unless we gut the entire team. You also have to think of the future when Tari and then Amen needs to get paid.

You can call it a massive ripoff by the Wizards, but what it demonstrates is that there was simply no market for Trae Young. We’ve been hearing that for a few years, but this is the reality of it. The Hawks do not believe he is worth what he will be paid on his next contract, be it by the Wizards or someone else. You can’t get blood from a turnip and it was time to stop trying and just move on.
