yao ming is the real deal my friend. Its all in his mind. He has all the talents to become the most dominant center 2 - 3 years from now as soon as the big aristotle slows down. im an asian and all the things written about ming especially the way he played the past ten games, it pissed me off. He deserves a break man. He's carrying the team in its first 60 - 70 games now its about time for others to stand out. NOw that he's in the play offs, he has no excuse but to raise his game to another level. Ala Hakeem Olajuwon. Can he do it? With the right frame of mind, enough touches and smart plays from the backcourt yes he can. Im a great olajuwon fan since 94 the first time i saw him play and wow, i cant beleive my eyes a player this tall can move like that. David Robinson comes close but he's not as great as the dream. Now, i have the same feeling with yao. A player that big with a touch that soft and moves that even the great shaq cant do in his prime, wow. His potential is limitless. So, stop this ******** becoz the bulls sucks.

As a Fan of the entire Houston Rockets Basketball team, I would have to agree that trading Yao would bring us back the most value but as mentioned in a previous thread, Yao for Okafor would be a deal that you just can't pass up.

how the heck is Yao for Okafor a deal you cant pass up.

Yao has proved he can be an All Star center, you dont trade all star centers for a college kid...no matter how great he is. Yao has had a bad month, but you must be OUT OF YOUR MIND to think that the Rockets will trade Yao.

Take in to account more than just the basketball playing(which IMO is more than enough reason to keep him) Yao makes lots of money for the Rockets. He is one of the most marketable players in the world...you dont trade that for an unproven rookie

Gets voted in by all the chinese internet votes. Has not proven to be an allstar. Okafor stepped it up big in the final four and carried his team to a championship like Melo Anthony did and Melo turned out to be a great pick. Okafor, unlike Yao is there when his team needs him the most .

The only thing I have against Yao is his fatigue. He just wears down too quick. Year-round hoops might just do that, and he'll have burnout.

you need to go check your facts before you talk crap.

In both years, Yao led in domestic (American) voting...and Shaq led in overseas and internet voting(iirc).

the numbers were released by the NBA...and they do not support your flawed assumption.

btw...put me in the camp with the others....you dont trade a skilled big man for a unproven rookie, I dont care what he shows in college...the NBA is a totally different monster.....some college studs do well....and some dont...we at least have a good idea of what Yao can do...

If he does not achieve a minimum 20 and 10 season in year 3 given that the excuses are removed (we get a quality PG who can give him the ball consistently without turning it over) his stock in the NBA will drop like a stone and by that time if the Rox would consider a trade they won’t get anything in return equivalent to what they will get this off season. After season 2 Yao has averaged 4 point game improvement than his rookie year and has substantiated himself that he could play at a equal or higher level to the best centers in the WC which consequently has raised his stock considerably mainly by matching against the so called best players of WC conference than anything else. But his play of the last 3 weeks has deteroited to the point that Houston may not be able to afford going an entire year 3 with Yao still at 17 and 9 taking into consideration his trading potential now (off season) juxtaposed to what it will be at end of year 3.

A season of MINIMUM of 20 and 10 and many believe something much higher is absolutely an expectation for Ming in season 3. Anything less (barring injury) would be a huge disappointment to fans let alone his trade value. That’s why this off season is the trade deadline for Ming to get the most out of the trade for the Rox.

2) There’s a lot of talk on this forum that SF3 doesn’t fit in Houston but has anybody asked does Yao fit in Houston?

Houston centers in the past that Yao has always being compared to is Hakeem who the majority have already claimed to be more greater, more athletic, agile and faster than Yao.
Houston in the past along (when Sf3 was the undisputed franchise player) with the majority of WC teams now, are run and gun teams, Sacramento, Dallas, San Antonio, Minny etc., where Houston now (because of Yao’s style or lack of) having to do a 180 degree turn to accommodate their slower low post center. Trading Yao with the players that Houston can get for him would allow the Rox to go back to their traditional ways with more weapons and depth for that type of offense to work consistently. Something along the lines of Dallas or Minny where starting players are not played to death because other members on the squad can more than handle themselves off the bench. Even with Yao on the team Houston absolutely has no depth, the reason why they are so inconsistent all season and the collapse of play at the end is that the starters have to play the majority of the game to even have a shot at winning coupled by the fact of JVG’s defensive doctrine, the starters get worn out game after game -look at the season ending games the defense practically disappeared.

3) And finally let’s face it, this will always be SF3 team, no matter if he plays for Houston or whether he gets traded. Why? Like this forum there is the entrenchment of two views in the Rox team, those that support Yao as the leader or SF3. The core group Cat, Cato, Mo have all been led when SF3 was there than Yao having only nachbar. The other players are either neutral or leaning one way or other.
Even if Sf3 gets traded, if the Rox do not perform as to peoples expectation (whatever they may be) next year he will get dogged on why they had to trade SF3 away. Playing under the ghost of Hakeem and Sf3 would be too bitter a pill than to play for a team that has sets its mind as to who the franchise player is and build the team around accordingly.
There’s too much loveloss with Sf3 being in Houston for 5 years now than Yao. Yao only 2 yrs can be easily forgotten, there isn’t the emotional attachment of trading Ming now than Sf3.

The Benefits of Yao being traded:

1) If traded to Chicago, for the 1st rounder and some supporting cast as many have suggested, (preferably I like New York) Yao will be in the East where he will be able to quickly accelerate his development. His biggest games of the year highest points (41 and 37 against Atlanta and Orlando respectively and 20 -20 vs Detroit) have all been against the East, which will only get better by playing for an EC team. He played some great games against WC teams but in terms of development having to play the prolific number of games in the WC where practically every team has major depth and talent, like to run the ball intensifying Yao’s weakness (slowness) Yao has shown repeatly he cannot sustain the intensity of 82 game schedule of high level play, playing exclusively in the WC. Having gained the very important experience of WC ball for 2 years, Yao against inferior Eastern conference teams, will have more energy and stamina to develop consistency in his play and also being the so called undisputed “Franchise Player” will have more than enough opportunities to make the mistakes that he would have to make to reach the next level. Moreover being the undisputed player either for NY or Chic there wouldn’t be any second thoughts of passing the ball to him or getting enough touches, whether it be Houston fans, announcers or Roc coaches having to b**** and whine for the team to get him some rocks. Nuff said. He will kill the East.

There are other things that benefit Ming, the question of larger market more fame and money, larger Asian community is easily understood in NY, Chic or even in lowly GSW ( a WC team I know) but they will have a sellout every game whether or not Yao dominates like Shaq or not. Houston crowds are so small (why?) (even with 2 so called all-stars on the team and let’s say the opposite of loud. I would like to see him LA but I do not have delusions that LA will give up neither Kobe nor Shaq now (barring injury) for Yao now. They will wait and see if He becomes a MDE before they will make any move.

So a trade at the end of this season or near the beginning of next season would but be a win win for both sides.

Houston can get a lot more players by trading Yao Now than they would SF3 this off season and add a lot of depth to their lineup that they sorely lack even with Yao, and Yao will play and lead (or learn to lead a team) a team without the ghosts of Hakeem and Sf3
barking at his rear..

Come on Houston make the better move, it’s clearly the better choice and makes more sense.
