ok, francis also has this reputation, without the rapist part, rockets still welcomed him

and i should add, if everyone's life was left for all to see, there wouldn't be much to watch. Not saying what kobe did was excusable, it wasn't. but i'm not going to judge kobe's career or life on that whole issue...

the reason why i cannot imagine this is because i do not remember a day where the rockets have never ever had a great center

That would be interesting. It could be Jordan & Pippen 2.0. Alston and or James might be able to fetch a halfway decent center in return.

Tempting though it may be, the Rockets are just so loaded right now, I think you have to give it a shot with this lineup no matter what kind of deal comes up.

Well that's true. It would be tough to play with no big guys.

I've been a rather passive basketball fan for years (football is my main game) so I'm confessing right up front that I'm no expert on such things.

Every team has a certain personality or chemistry that's part competition, part camaraderie, part heart. Although I live in NYC (originally from Ohio), I first became interested in the Rockets a few years ago when I caught a glimpse of the Yao n' McGrady Show (no hatin'). So I began watching Rockets games to get to know all the players. What I found was a very cool team with fascinating players. And yes I, too, was crushed during the playoffs. (Sigh)

This season I'm following every game because this could be the one. I even have tickets for the January game here in NYC. I'm excited about the additions of Scola and Francis and overall I think the talent and chemistry of the Rockets is second to none. Oh yeah, it's definitely time!

But Kobe would screw that up and it wouldn't be the same team. Yeah, he can score but at what price glory? I'd rather see the Rockets win with players we've known, loved and respected over the years, than with Kobe barging in with his giant ego ruining everyone's flow. YMMV

That was nothing but Richard Justice writing in his Blog. There's no merit behind this whatsoever. I'm pretty sure every team will inquire "hoping to land him." Justice is a clown. A very funny one I might add.

"How do you like the sound of that, Tim Duncan? How about you, Mark Cuban?"

Fair enough.....lets leave Colorado out of it......Do you agree that he is however a ball-hog?

Because that is how I see it.

I honestly think Kobe is waaay over-rated...

Thanks for the warm welcome! I'm really excited about this season which is weird for me because I'm a football fan and usually don't pay attention to b-ball until January. But not this year, I can't wait for Oct. 30.

    BTW, I'm a female. ;)

It'd TRULY be the gift and the curse with Kobe on the team

Even with the dislike of him, my basketball sense says its almost a given that a Kobe led Rocket team would not be denied anything less than 2nd round playoffs and possibly conference finals at the VERY least....

...which is what we/I am supposed to want. But I cant think of another player WORSE in any sport thats to tough to root for, thats so hard to support...with Kobe on the team it might be the first time in my basketball life I purposely don't watch the Rockets, seriously.

You probably can't recall the 1982-83 season? That was the first season they played that I know of without a great center, which was after they traded Moses Malone to the Philadelphia 76ers. The one thing I'll remember about that team is they compiled a 14-68 record.

Most recently, how about the following season (2001-02) after Hakeem Olajuwon was traded to the Toronto Raptors? Just think, they would just be a lottery team that season (compiled a 24-58 record) as well before managing to win the lottery to draft Yao. Although they missed the playoffs in his first year with a 43-39 record, they would make the playoffs in three of his next four seasons.

I think that a Rockets' team with no great center, but one with Kobe Bryant and T-Mac together, might be the best team they would have ever had among Rocket teams with no great center. However, I just don't think that such a trade (Yao for Kobe) will happen. The Lakers would probably like to trade Kobe Bryant to an Eastern Conference team much like what they did with Shaq if they traded him at all.

I don't support trading Kobe for T-Mac. You need to read what I responded to before replying to me.

For the 2001-02 season, their record really was 28-54. Sorry for the gaff.

the perception of kobe being the most selfish player in the universe i think has come from his relationship with shaq. in the past year, what I saw, i cannot give documentation of it since i wouldn't even know where to find it, is that that really happened because of the GM or owner. I saw a program on espn or somewhere, that had questioned kobe if he was the one who kicked shaq out, and he gave a reason that said kupchak told kobe that they couln't afford both of them, and shaq agreed with this statement of kobe. basically attesting to the fact that it wasn't due to kobe. i thought that was news. that changed my perception.

I didn't really care about the lakers when they won, or kobe's relationship with shaq, they won three rings, and they both had big egos, but they won.

last year what I saw when Kobe played was that he was willing to share the ball, he didn't start out necessarily demanding the ball was his. but of course my sample size was small. so not much i can really say. but i do think rockets should look into this to see if kobe is really ball hog and selfish player, and how he contributes to locker room dynamics.

what have the fans based their opinion on kobe's selfishness? 50 point games?

just being an average fan of the nba, i am a diehard of the rockets though, i only know what i see from a small sample and what the media has said. If you were to ask me if i thought kobe is a ball hog, i can simply say yes, because he kicked shaq out, wants glory for himself by scoring 70 something points. those are the only two reasons that i can think of why he is a selfish player. maybe i'm leaving something else out.

I would realy hate the Rockets if they traded Tmac to a non-contender. He deserves better than that. We need to drop any interest in that cancer and roll with this bad @SS team we have now. WE WILL WIN A CHAMPIONSHIP WITH THIS ROSTER!!!!!!!!!

False. Francis has had no issues with teammates during his NBA career. He has had occasional issues with his coaches. Kobe, on the other hand, has had problems with his teammates, coaches, girls in Colorado, his wife and many other members of society. You can't compare Francis to Kobe in that regard.
