I remember we had a poll on this a while back, and a majority of votes (around 60%) supported trading McGrady for Kobe. For me it depends on what else we have to give up besides McGrady; if the trade is straight up I'd do it.
Kobe gives 100% to try and score 50 points a game, not to get his teammates involved and do everything he can to win, which is what T Mac does.
Do you want to sell your soul to the devil just to get a ring? If you answered yes, get Kobe. I hate Kobe as much as the next person on this forum but you deny his talent and skills. At this point in both their careers, Kobe is far ahead of T-Mac when it comes to scoring and defense. Curse me all you want, but the numbers don't lie. IF we make a trade for Kobe right now (ain't gonna happen), write us down for the championship ballot. But what then? After he brings us a ring, that's when the drama is gonna start. He's going to b**** and whine and start raping again. As a family oriented and God-loving organization (kidding), we don't need that kind of cancer around. Don't look for short term success, I'd say keep T-Mac.
i would argue that t-mac made a shift to become a play-maker as a result of his back spasms and the clear emergence of yao ming I'D TRADE T-MAC FOR KOBE IN A HEART-BEAT
i agree.i can't believe what i see on this board but hey nothing new .It's only one of the threads about trading t-mac,there were a lot on this board
If you asked me before all the offseason acquisitions (Scola, James, Francis), I would have done the deal in a heartbeat. Now the team is so deep with guys that can score, T-Mac's reluctance to take the reigns late in a game won't hurt us and may actually be a blessing. Stand pat.
I wouldn't pull the trigger when T-Mac is healthy. He is more talented than Kobe in my mind, and plus Kobe is such a drama queen. But in recent years Mac's health problem really concerns me, and he seems to have lost his passion for basketball. It is self-evident that right now, Kobe > T-Mac hands down. So I would say it would be a good trade, but I doubt if Lakers would do it.
Kobe would kill chemistry more times than not in the Rockets' situation. We're not even sure how the chemistry will be with the current roster right now. Imagine if Kobe was inserted to the roster in place of perhaps our best passer/playmaker. The Rockets have a new coach, new players, and a new system to overcome. Maybe trading for Kobe right now isn't such a good idea. It's only a good idea if you want more revenue, and if you're Les Alexander. On the other hand of optimism, if the Rockets trade for Kobe, they could be champions this year. It would be the first time in years that the Rockets are actually, truly LEGIT NBA Championship contenders...maybe even the favorites. It depends on how the trade looks like. If I were the engaging Rockets GM, I would give up one of our point guards from the glut and a young player with Tracy McGrady being the centerpiece. In return, I'd want a forward to go along with Kobe. Houston gets: Kobe Bryant - SG Brian Cook - PF Lakers get: Tracy McGrady - SG/SF Rafer Alston - PG Steve Novak - PF/SF But all in all, I don't care if we have McGrady or Kobe. the philosophy will change depending on who the swingman superstar is. McGrady is the Rockets' best playmaker. His passing and court vision is a HUGE asset in this new offense. I'd rather have his skill set than Kobe's with the current makeup of the roster and the philosophy that Coach Adelman is trying to apply to the team. But with Kobe, you're adding killer instinct, clutch performance, heart, attitude, and a true leader on the floor. Isn't all this what most of us on this board are saying the Rockets are missing?
Yes!! The truth is with current roster we don't really need a player like Kobe. Even if Kobe is better than T-mac one on one, he will be at most the same as T-Mac in this Rocket team without considering the team-chemistry problem.
Yes I would do that trade. T-Mac doesn't seem to be his old self anymore and with the constant thought of his back breaking each and every game is just too much. Kobe is the best player in the freakin world. We would win the championship if we get Kobe.
tmac really needed to step up last year, rox were up by a good margin in the 4th quarter at home, tmac was on a roll, he was driving to the basket, scoring at WILL... then inexplicably, last 4 minutes of the game, he forgot he could drive to the bucket at will. forget rafer, forget vg, forget mike james, tmac shoulda, coulda closed that series OUT! getting more good role players isn't gonna change a whole lot, why? because tmac is the one who has to step up when it is all said and done! mike james isn't going to take that shot, steve, not even yao, it is tracy. rockets live and die by their playmaker, and that is tracy, whether this is vg's system, or adelman or whoever else. not really more excuses left for tmac, evaluate what is going on during the first part of the year, see how adelman and him work together, and how the role players fit in. that is what I would do, but of course that means squat to the rockets, fine... and those who say that rockets would be trading their whole team away, this isn't the same deal as barkley. sam cassell was a superstar? horry was a superstar, mark bryant? 2 really good players and 2 other fillers for barkley, a superstar. if this trade will happen, it isn't going to be a 4 for 1 deal. at most it's going to be tmac and a roleplayer, and maybe a 1st round draft pick to fill in. Don't exaggerate losing the WHOLE TEAM. tmac is a superstar, yes, tmac didn't have a good enough supporting cast(he still had yao), tmac didn't have a good coach, tmac didn't play in a good system, tmac and yao weren't completely healthy last year... IT'S TIME.
I'll tell you what happened. T-Mac got scared. He was chicken. He did not want to make the last shot, and bear the price of failing. This is why he disappeared. He was hoping other players would win the game for him, and then he can strut post game interview, and say It's on me. T-Mac is not a winner. Kobe is. If the Rockets can get Kobe, get him. Trade T-Mac and anyone else not named Yao Ming for Kobe. Get it done rockets.
haha actually, i consider rafer, steve, mike james, heck anyone besides yao a role player. but i should add, battier really has to be also an almost untouchable in this case
Kobe is a cancer who cant get along with Others.....Lets pass on that ball-hoggin rapist. I will have a very hard time being a fan of the Rockets with him on my team....
how bout Aaron Brooks, Carl Landry and 1st for Kobe. Les is always ready to go over the LT for a special player. Correct me if I'm wrong, but wouldnt the Lakers get a huge TPE as well. LOL its a long shot!
Bingo. The Rockets recognized McGrady's weaknesses and went out and got Francis, Scola, and James to help compensate for them. This team is built for reluctant superstars, and throwing a me-first guy in there will completely throw it out of whack, no matter how good the player may be.
I was thinkin' about Yao for Kobe trade. Guys, can you see it? Tracy and Kobe together on the same team? For me that's unbelivable and I couldn't even see it in my imagination, but that doesn't change the fact that it would be funny...
