There has been much discussion about this... it's like a thread is posted almost once every three months. Truth be told, i don't hate Kobe as much as I once did. The issue i have with Kobes is that he's happier being the only guy. Look, he's loving the current situation in LA because he has a right to complain. Before, when Shaq was there and they were winning it was him being a b****, now he's in the right. I don't for a second believe he truly wants to be traded. Gun to his head Kobe would stay with the Lakers. Why go for this guy then? Even if we have to give up nothin' to get him, it's a bad investment. Period. ;)

Let me answer your question with a question - can Kobe play point forward?

I would rather trade Kirk Snyder, JL3, Steve Novak, Luther Head, and Justin Reed for Kobe. Then we can reduce the roster to 15 and have a starting lineup of:

PG Alston (don't shoot - ever!)
    SG Kobe (shoot a lot)
SF TMac (shoot, pass, rebound, play D)
    PF Hayes (rebound missed shots)
C Yao Ming (shoot a bit, pass a bit, rebound a lot, block a lot, play D)

Nobody could stop them!!!! Then you bring these guys off the bench:

James, Francis, Bonzi, Shane, Scola, & Deke/Butler. Killer 11-man lineup.

Oh yeah, the Lakers would jump on this because they improve their shooting (Novak & Head), get younger (all are younger than Kobe), retain athleticism (Snyder, Reed, Head), and get a PG of the future (JL3 was mvp of Summer League). It is a no brainer!!!!

the thought merits discussion. kobe has a killer instinct and ability to take over any game at any time. i would say no one else in the league comes close to matching him in that aspect. tmac has the skills to do this... but we don't see it often enough in my opinion. kobe is also a superior defensive player.

the upside to tmac is that he makes everyone around him a better player. his complete unselfish play (while sometimes unjustified) is a joy to watch and lends itself to team basketball (which will be even more evident under the new system this year). kobe doesn't do this.

all that said... there is no way i would trade tmac for kobe straight up much less by throwing in our "fillers".

It's this device that lets good stuff go through it while holding back all of the crap. I wish BBS software had a reliable one for thread starters.

Why would you have Hayes as the starter over Scola?

Kobe is the best player in the world. No brainer indeed.

I would give them along with Tmac, MJ and Bonzi pls JL3, Sura and all Tmac diehard fans.
