I like what Travis Outlaw brings to the team he's an athletic freak...WE NEED AN ATHLETIC FREAK... ...I would like to see Kirk Snyder and Travis Outlaw on the court at the same time especially on the defensive end of the court.
While Battier is a fundamentally sound defender, he is by no means a shut down defender. Everyone plays good individual D in the playoffs, so we don't really miss out on too much by trading Battier. Battier + Head for Maggette would be great for us if we could pick up someone like Quinton Ross as well. Our perimeter defense has constantly been torn apart in the playoffs and I've always preached the need for us to pick up an above average individual defender at the 2 spot, considering our PG's have been a defensive liability. When we've lost to good teams, it's because we haven't been able to make stops or execute down the stretch. Adding Maggette AND an excellent individual defender like Ross really helps us out in that regard. Maggette is very comfortable playing within a system, don't let the high FT #'s fool you. He likes to isolate and go to the basket but he's also got a very good midrange jumper and his shot selection has steadily improved over his career. You can't have Ross and Hayes on the floor at the same time, but it's nice to have those options. Incoming Players Quinton Ross 6-6 SG from Southern Methodist 4.9 ppg, 2.9 rpg, 0.9 apg in 22.2 minutes Corey Maggette 6-6 SF from Duke 20.5 ppg, 6.9 rpg, 3.2 apg in 34.4 minutes Outgoing Players Luther Head 6-3 PG / SG from Illinois 3.9 ppg, 1.0 rpg, 1.2 apg in 12.4 minutes Shane Battier 6-8 SF from Duke 8.1 ppg, 4.8 rpg, 1.5 apg in 34.0 minutes I just don't know if the Clippers would still be down for doing this trade.
I do realize this is a new offense and I willing to give almost every player (except Rafer) more time to get adjusted. Rafer is what he is. However, the Rockets can't afford to waste another season without making genuine progress. So how much time do you give players before you seriously start considering moving somebody? The NBA trade deadline is in late Feb. I believe. So is 3 more months fair? I'm not advocating any impetuous moves, but there needs to be a sense of urgency. Like Rafer Alston, the Battier we've seen in the past season or so is what you get with Battier, which I don't think is good enough to take us to the next level. Another thing that bothers me about Battier is how he historically disappears in playoff games. I really want to see TMac back at the SF position. So if things don't start getting much better, you have to give serious consideration to moving Battier, but like GATER said, I don't what you could get for him. The only trade that came to mind for me was Maggette and if he's available I would say the Rockets have to pull the trigger. You could maybe get Cuttino Mobley instead or trade him back to Memphis for Mike Miller. None of these last two scenarios seem plausible. I just don't know, but I do know time is running out for the Rockets.
I agree with this (I believe that other posters mentioned this as well), but the problem is our 3 point shooting can't get any worse as it is. Luther Head can't really seem to find a shot in this offense and Battier is shooting very poorly from three. You can't have a perfect team, but I like your proposed trade and I would take the positives that Maggette and Ross bring over the negative impact it would ostensibly have on our 3 point shooting. I think it's very unfortunate that the Rockets didn't make this move.
Except for the fact that Jimmy Jackson thought he was still a star, and Battier doesn't. IMHO, Jackson shot himself into becoming a liability on the team at times. Battier is no danger to do that.
how can you possibly say no to josh smith??!! ....but no way atlanta will do that deal, even less probability than the artest deal
This is just sad but it's part for course. I am sick of them losing but it's what a month into a long season? All the trade talk from know it all fans who sometimes even sound reasonable but is in the end, doing knee jerk reactions left and right. Trade, fill in the blank and the team will be better. But hey, what else can fans do right? This is a IMHO type BBS so EVERYONE can say what they want to. So I say keep the guy. And if they trade him (which will be highly unlikely), I think Morey likes him alot, we will miss him more than you think.
A player that intrigues me a lot is Mike Miller. Great shooter, moves well without the ball, very good ballhandler/playmaker/passer, makes good decisions on the court. He would fit Adelman’s offensive system to a tee. Memphis right now is a very good offensive team, but a horrid on defense. With the emergence of Rudy Gay this season, I could totally see Memphis being interested in trading Miller for Battier, thinking Battier is a better fit next to Gay. Sounds crazy to trade Battier back to Memphis, but given the current makeup of both teams (Memphis desperate for defense, Rockets players struggling to fit Adelman's offensive system), I think a swap would make a lot of sense.
Trade 1: Shane and Luther for Maggette. Trade 2: Snyder and Novak for Charlie Bell. Move 3: Sign Mike Harris Move 4: Take a flyer on a D-leaguer like Josh Gross, Kaniel Dickens, Antywane Robinson, maybe Ricky Sanchez.
it would take more than Battier... probably battier/Head + someone. so basically rockets would have given up Gay/Swift/Head/someone for mike miller? wow how would the PR spin that...
Forget Miller what about Lowry we need a player that takes it to the hole we have enought jump shooters. Luther for Lowry straight up!
man, these are all impossibilities but of them, mike miller would be perfect. miller is a great shooter and he can get to the hole on occasion. miller is exactly what the rox need, quick and accurate release, perfect on those hand offs from yao.
or somehow trade Snyder for Gerald Green Green numbers this year, he's barely played: http://sports.yahoo.com/nba/players/3944/gamelog;_ylt=AuLS3sHrRWnrp.v2JTVTzYukvLYF Green's number's last season: http://sports.yahoo.com/nba/players/3944/gamelog;_ylt=Am_pxR6tq_X7xudm7JW.FUikvLYF?year=2006
We don't have reliable 3 point shooters. We saw how poorly Head did in the playoffs. Battier has a high percentage because he doesn't take many shots.Yes, he hit the game winner in the opener but he can't be counted on like a Mike Miller.T-Mac is shooting better this year and James has helped some but we aren't a good 3 point shooting team. I don't think Battier/Head will be enough to get Mike Miller or a guy like Maggette, who can drive and get to the basket. I also don't think the Grizzlies will trade Lowry for Head.
Luther is a great shooter but they play off Rafer and leave him open, you need someone to drive and then kick out we have no one like this on the team.........Look at the other teams in the league that are successful with a slasher that drives and then kicks out..ala devin harris/steve nash/jason terry/josh howard/jerry stackhouse/barbosa/parker/ginobolli......success is one player away CORY MAGGETTE
naw AARON BROOKS BABY!... this is what i dont get if all the rocket players have to learn a new system how come brooks doesn't get an equal chance of playing as rafer/head? brooks can drive dish it out and hit the 3. PG/C are the most important part of building a championship team swingmen are a dime a dozen i think.
I AM WITH YOU DOMINATOR START THE THREAD BRING ON BROOKS AND HELL DONT STOP THERE LETS SEE WHAT LANDRY CAN BRING TOO....HELL HAYES CAN'T FINISH A LAYUP.
