Live - I manage to do a pretty fair job of avoiding the "All Stars for Rocket scraps" proposals but the ones involving Garnett are just too tough to resist. Especially since this is the 3rd KG in less than a week! A major portion of any trade proposal is the subjectvity of player evaluation. But far in advance of this is the reality of contract values. We could argue until next season tips off about player A being better than player B. But if player A's salary is worth that of 6 other players then the answer is about as black and white as player A's $20+m contract. Tell the truth..you have your favorite recurring trade irritants!
man532, You conveniently overlooked this post of mine. So, I'll repost it for you. By the way, until signed, draft picks count for $0.00 when involved in trades. We all would love to have Garnett on our team with Francis & Mobley, but until his contract drops to a more reasonable $12-13 mill, it's not going to happen. At $12-13 mill, Minnesota wouldn't need or want to trade him. quote: -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Originally posted by man532 Garnett is tired of the hype in Minny and is looking for a way out. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Where did you hear this? Do you have a link to an article that has him being quoted as saying this? Besides, don't you think that Minnesota would get a much better offer than Taylor/Cato/KT/#15? How about Finley/Van Exel/LaFrentz for Garnett? Or, Vince Carter/JW/Keon Clark (resigned) for Garnett? How about Brand/Odom/#8 pick for Garnett? How about Rose/Robinson/Fizer/#1 pick for Garnett? For Houston to even consider getting into the running, they'd have to send at least $21.42 million in salaries out. Do we have that much in salaried players that Minnesota would consider to be a better offer than the ones I just suggested? I don't think so.
i'm sorta a newbie but how come everyone makes idiotic trade proposals like the one for mcdyess and now for garnett? 'sure we'll trade any except for steve, cat, and griffin' yea after those three, we REALLY got trade bait i mean it's fun to have pipe dreams but over the time that i've been a member, reading some of these trade proposals irks me.
Thanks for the feedback, keep the your insults to yourself. Especially Gator and NJRocket. All I asked is for the salary cap experts to see if this trade fits. Raise up on the negative comments, I'm concerned about improving the Rockets at anybody's expense. MoTaylor and Rice coming back from injuries will not help. No offseason work ethic.
if you mean trading away the likes of griffin or mobley or thinking that then i'm with you. frankly, i don't put much value into the buddy buddy of steve and cat. you walk up to steve and say 'we're gonna work a deal to trade cat and A LOT of other things for garnett. how do you feel?' he'll pause and ask which cell phone company has the best long distance rates.
....... I'm concerned about improving the Rockets at anybody's expense.......... Do you expect the GM of another team to make a poor trade just so the Rockets can improve at his own team's expense? .......All I asked is for the salary cap experts to see if this trade fits..... Then why are you here trying to defend the merits of your proposal? Mango
I'm "insulting" and "negative" for stating cold, hard facts? You originally asked for feedback and some cap advice. You got both without any expletives or personal insults. I am always open to constructive criticism and will "agree to disagree" with anyone over a difference of opinion. If you perceive this as "negative" perhaps the next time you seek advice or opinions, I will take poster Live's advice and ignore you.
I'm not trying to defend a proposal. I'm only providing my thoughts on improving the Rockets. Mango, know the deal before you get involve, check the original post, which asked the salary cap experts on the proposed trade. By the way, it's good to know that this post has created some buzz.
I'm not trying to defend a proposal. NJRocket, Minny is going to lose Garnett, who's ego is fragile after 2 years. He wants to win now and has lost 6 straight years in the 1st round. Who knows what Minny will do, Kenny and Maurice Taylor produce the same numbers as Garnett. I would throw in Eddie Griffin w/ Mo Taylor if we can keep Kenny Thomas. Don't underestimate the impact of the 15th pick. Looks like a defense of the proposal to me and probably most others on this BBS. ........check the original post, which asked the salary cap experts on the proposed trade.......... Salary cap experts, I need your feedback on the proposed trade. Maurice Taylor, Kenny Thomas, and Kelvin Cato. MTaylor $8 mil and Cato $6 mil and 15th pick for a total of $15.6 mil. I see a lineup of Francis, Mobley, and Garnett giving people fits night in/out. Keeping Kenny Thomas is key along with Eddie Griffin's development. I think we can find a serviceable center to replace Fato. The salaries you proposed are not even close to working on the KG trade, so why ask the salary cap experts for the fine details of making it fit? By the way, it's good to know that this post has created some buzz. We now know that you haven't learned to walk away from a thread in which you are losing. How many people have posted in this thread agreeing with you and also with the rational expectation that Minnesota would make a deal similar to what you proposed? Mango
