Good article, although I don't think a coaching change will help too much, if it is not one that is personality based - ie, a Phil Jackson type coach. Given Milwaukee's implosion and Brown's troubles with Iverson, I don't see either of them as candidates in that regard. Besides, imo, Saunders is one of the better coaches, in terms of knowledge of the game, in the league today. I know this is the drastic response, but if I was the TWolves I WOULD trade KG and Brandon for high picks (this year and in future)and role players or veteran players with relatively short cotracts. As article mentions, Szcerbiak does, at least, have that STAR mentality and could keep the team from becoming the next Warriors of the league as they wait for their punishment to end (to supplement acquired picks with those of their own) and some capspace to develope simultaneously.
Where did you hear this? Do you have a link to an article that has him being quoted as saying this? Besides, don't you think that Minnesota would get a much better offer than Taylor/Cato/KT/#15? How about Finley/Van Exel/LaFrentz for Garnett? Or, Vince Carter/JW/Keon Clark (resigned) for Garnett? How about Brand/Odom/#8 pick for Garnett? How about Rose/Robinson/Fizer/#1 pick for Garnett? For Houston to even consider getting into the running, they'd have to send at least $21.42 million in salaries out. Do we have that much in salaried players that Minnesota would consider to be a better offer than the ones I just suggested? I don't think so.
You got it. If Cato, (a healthy) Taylor & KT couldn't elevate the Rockets to the playoffs two seasons ago with Steve & Cat, why on earth would anyone think this trio could do so with Wally World and a Brandon returning from a serious injury? KG to the Rockets without minimumly including Cuttino is pure, unadulterated dreamcasting.
Look at the options, Dallas and Clips do not want to mess up their Team Chemistry and Lamar Odom the crackhead is untradeable. I would trade everyone to get Garnett except Steve, Cat, and Eddie Griffin. The 4 including Garnett would be an awesome necleus to build a playoff contender to match up. Also you're losing your mind if you don't think Kevin isn't a superstar. A 25 pts, 10 rbs, and 5 assist a night is Allstar material. I've seen him shutdown the top scorers in the league and if he had Steve, Cat, and Eddie to support him would only improve his overall play. THE MAN NEEDS HELP and I think the following salaries match and are within 20% of Garnetts. Cato salary of $6 mil MoTaylor salary of $8 mil Kenny Thomas salary of $1.6 mil 1st Pick in Draft $2.3 mil
You can't be serious...I mean cmon. I'm all for off-season trade talk banter and all that goes with it but you can't honestly think that Minny would... 1)trade KG and 2) trade him for anything on our team other than Steve, Cat or Griff Explain how this trade helps Minny... Cato < or = Nesterovic Mo t <<<<<<<< KG KT at best is = Joe Smith and the 1st round pick they would get if we had a lineup of Steve, Cat, KG and Eddie would be in the mid 20's gimmie a break
NJRocket, Minny is going to lose Garnett, who's ego is fragile after 2 years. He wants to win now and has lost 6 straight years in the 1st round. Who knows what Minny will do, Kenny and Maurice Taylor produce the same numbers as Garnett. I would throw in Eddie Griffin w/ Mo Taylor if we can keep Kenny Thomas. Don't underestimate the impact of the 15th pick.
thank you NJRocket, for bringing some sense to this inane topic... why don't you guys reverse it... talk of trading KG for anyone but stevie, cat, or eddie is the same as pups fans talking about trading us joe smith, chauncey billups, and will avery for steve francis just b/c their salaries match... (i don't know if they actually do match, but you get my point)... to even CONSIDER getting KG, griffin and/or francis would HAVE to be in the trade...
I dont mean to sound like NutzChin here but you are on another planet. The only way that Mo and KT get the same #'s as KG is if they are playing Keno.
AHH-MEN, BRUTHA! I get totally sick and tired of adding KG to the Rockets without any consideration of quality for quality. Houston trades: PG Steve Francis C Kelvin Cato Minnesota trades: PF Joe Smith PG William Avery C Radoslav Nesterovic PG Chauncey Billups TRADE ACCEPTED
You want Quality? What if we included Francis in the trade? Since he wants Cat to go along, then let's throw him in too. To match salaries and add frontcourt depth throw in Mo T. We get Kevin Garnett, Billups and Peeler? Francis Cat MoT for KG Billups Peeler How does that sound? We'd be losing though. Not enough offensive punch to support KG here. But Minny: Jaxx MoT Wally Cat Francis No matter what you say, that's an offensive juggernaut. Every single one of those guys can average 17ppg. They have a post game, tehy can run. Only problem? Defense and shotblocking.
Nothing personal, Sane, but that's not a very good team for Minn. That's not even Dallas Light. I would do that trade in a heartbeat, BTW, especially if the Rocks can keep Griffin and both picks. Consider: C - Cato, MCE?, draft pick PF - KT, EG SF - KG, Rice, TMo SG - Peeler, Woods at #5?, MCE? PG - Mooch, Billups, Wagner at #5?, MCE? ADVANTAGE: HOUSTON
I hate to be rude, crude and nasty, but I personally find the KG to Houston dreamcasting very irritating. Here are the facts: 1) Kevin Garnett's salary for 2002 is $25.2m. 2) Steve and Cat together will make $9.3m. What remaining contracts valuing $15.9m can you talk the TWolves into taking that they want but won't decimate the Rockets? Rice - 9.2m Mo T - 7.1m Cato - 6.7m EG - 2.1m KT - 1.5M People, people... get real.. do we want to be the TWolves lite and make 1st round exits for the next 6 years? And don't even tell me about all the cap space we'll have when he resigns for less or I'll remind you that he can just as easily walk.
In case anyone was really serious about giving up Mo, KT Rice Cato and any other stiff we have lieing around...read the following package being rumored... Apr. 30 - KG on the trading block? The T-Wolves say trading Garnett isn't an option. "How many people would you put on this team around this league where the team could win 50 games taking his spot?" coach Flip Saunders asked the Minneapolis Star Tribune. "There are not many." But Chicago Tribune columnist Sam Smith writes that the Bucks might be able to offer a package that the T-Wolves can't refuse: KG to to the Bucks for Ray Allen, Tim Thomas and Anthony Mason or Jason Caffey. The trade would infuse the T-Wolves with young talent and would give the Bucks the tough unselfish superstar that plays the game George Karl's way. More likely, the Wolves will see what they can get for Wally Szczerbiak (see below), but it may take a move as drastic as trading KG to get the Wolves out of the first round. NUFF SAID
GATER, If you find this thread irritating then, in the immortal words of Mike Tyson,... 'CHANGE YOUR STATION!' Don't click on the thread! Simple as that! Frankly, I find all the 'Rocks trade their scraps and the chance to obtain 2 uproven players for another team's best player' threads irritating, but I admit to being a dumb*ss for clicking on them, anyway. BTW, I agree that KG in a Rock uniform, as well as (in no particular order): Duncan Shaq Kobe Marion Kidd Mashburn Baron Davis Vince Carter Paul Pierce Antoine Walker Allen Iverson Brand Jermaine O'Neal Grant Hill Ray Allen Tracy McGrady and any other marque player I can't think of is an absolute waste of brain cells. Therefore, carry on with the dreamcasting!
