What's the issue, they'll only win 3 rings instead of 5 or 6?

Age is overrated. Unless they're approaching 40, it comes down to the invidual player. I see a good 3 yrs there out of all of them left. Only odom and kobe will be singificantly affected at that point, but DH is at his prime and should be able to shoulder a lot of responsibility on that team. Definitely a lot more than Bynum ever did and could ever handle. More often too, since he's not as injury prone.

    Around 3 min mark:
Uhh I think he meant to say Hakeem? Anyway, judging from that interview, he looks like he's ready to leave Orlando now. Granted, after a playoff exit, any player should be upset, but he semi-tactfully suggested his team wasn't playing hard and/or doing their part and sounds very frustrated with his situation.

Jordan didn't have All Stars, he had Hall of Famers.

I don't think Dwight sets sail and leaves Orlando, he doesn't have the personality to handle a quitters backlash like LeBron. The LA deal seems nice on paper but I don't see him enjoying being a 3rd or 4th wheel behind Kobe and Gasol. At the same time the Magic, like the Rockets, don't have any real pieces to bring in superstars other than bloated contracts. Jason Richardson has to go down as one of the most overhyped no-contact jump shooters of all time, he seems to attract losing wherever he goes. A poor man's Stephen Jackson.

Orlando could try bringing in penetrator's like Corey Maggette and seeing what happens. Setting up camp around the three point line and dumping it in to Dwight isn't going to work for them because Dwight lacks two major things Hakeem brought to the court -
A jump shot (ideal for pick and rolls, the bread n butter of the playoffs)
    Intuitive feel for teammates

If they trade Dwight, they give up on contending in the near future because they won't get enough value (from the contenders that he would want to go to) in return. The difference between Dwight and Bynum is astronomical.

Why is it considered quitting if you leave a team that sucks? Basketball isn't a one-man show. Now I do think that if Dwight leaves, he should consider joining an up and coming team (like the Clippers) instead of an established contender (like the Lakers) because it would more definitively prove his worth, but as far as "legacy" goes, no one will probably care down the line.

Sometimes you do have to overpay, especially in a small market. But I don't know about 150% to 250% overpaying a guy's worth.

JJ Redick shouldn't even be seeing the MLE. Lewis would be overpaid at $12M per.

I think it feels like the star b****ed about not having enough talent, basically forcing the team to make immediate moves that were questionable, with the star's consent. Then the star packs up and leaves, leaving the team stuck with those questionable moves and in a deep hole.

But, IIRC, that applies more to Lebron than Dwight.

Oh boy, I'm already ready for Dwight to land somewhere for the sake of this forum.

    Chris Bosh all over again.

No - just some debate over the notion that leaving a team is "quitting"

If you're the clips, do you make a trade mainly composed of Griffin, kaman, and DJ for Scola and DH?

Basically kaman and griffin to Orl and DJ to houston...just have to fill in the gaps.

Griffin is untradeable (although he will probably bolt at first opportunity). He's the most exciting player in the league and is selling out Clipper games.

I wouldn't call him untradeable if you're talking about DH coming back to you. As good as griffin is, he's strictly a rebounder and inside scorer who's all athleticism, he doesnt block shots. DH does more and might be older, but you have to think about how long Griffin's career will be at a high level if he's very dependent on his hops. Who knows when the clips may have a shot to build a team with this talent. They're getting past the days where they got top 5 picks, maybe even top 10.

Bolting is also an issue, just 3 yrs left, but they would get DH to re-sign for 5-6 yrs.

Yeah, but you are thinking from a talent perspective. Sterling is going to think from a business perspective. Griffin is the most exciting player in the league. He also has more upside than Howard and already has a much more refined offensive game (although I personally don't think he'll come anywhere near Howard defensively). I don't think there's a single player in the league that the Clippers would trade Griffin for, even through there are a bunch that would improve the team.

Possibly...but i'd think making the playoffs and maybe even contending would a lot of money as well.

I hope i don't jinx him, but i cringe every time i see Griffin do his spin move. I feel like he's going to tear up his knee sooner rather than later.

Not sure I'd give them whatever they want. He's good but needs plenty of help to win big. Put him on the current Rocket team and they'd have a good chance. But he's not really any better than a Zo Mourning if we're being serious.

I personally think Dwight will be a first ballot HOFer when it's all over.

He is a threat to lead the league in blocks and rebounds every year and continues to win DPOYs. It's a matter of opinion how good he truly is but those facts alone are enough to convince me.

i think deron williams will remain with the nets, and that is one of howard's preferred destinations.

wonder where chris paul will go.

regardless, whatever team that lands either howard or paul will be instant contenders b/c they will be traded to very good teams.

Reddick was matching Chicago's offer sheet, I'd guess Chicago figured they could way overpay him (well look at their team and what they need) and Orlando wouldn't match it.

    LIKE I SAID BEFORE.

THE ONLY WAY WE WILL LAND DWIGHT HOWARD IS IF WE ACQUIRE A DECENT CENTER IN THE OFFSEASON. WE WILL HAVE TO INCLUDE THAT CENTER IN THE DEAL FOR DWIGHT TO EVEN BE CONSIDERED. WE WOULD THEN HAVE THE BEST PACKAGE.

    WE CAN OFFER MONEY/TRADE EXCEPTIONS
YOUNG TALENT IN CHASE, HILL,THABEET, WILLIAMS, DRAGIC, PATTERSON
    PROVEN SCORERS IN MARTIN, SCOLA,
    DRAFT PICKS

WE HAVE A HUGE MARKET IN HOUSTON/LOTS OF MONEY OUT HERE
WE NEED A CENTER/DWIGHT WOULD THE FRANCHISE PLAYER
WE HAVE A VOID 2 FILL WITH YAO/CHINESE PEOPLE WOULD COVET HOWARD

WE NEED TO KEEP KEVIN MARTIN AND COURTNEY LEE AND CHUCK HAYES.
THESE PLAYERS WOULD ATTRACT HOWARD TO WANTED TO PLAY WITH US.

    HES PLAYED WITH LEE,
KNOWS THAT MARTIN WILL HIT HIS SHOTS AND GET TO THE LINE,
KNOWS THAT CHUCK IS ONE OF THE BEST DEFENDERS IN THE LEAUGE

DRAGIC OR LOWRY CAN BE ADDED TO THE TRADE/EITHER CAN START
SCOLA, CHASE, HILL, THABEET CAN ALL GO!

A TRADE WOULD LOOK SOMETHING LIKE:

(THE FREE AGENT CENTER WE SIGN)
    D.JORDAN/M.GASOL/T.CHANDLER/M.CAMBY/S.DALEMBERT/ECT
    JORDAN HILL OR PATRICK PATTERSON
    LUIS SCOLA
    CHASE BUDDINGER OR TERRANCE WILLIAMS
    KYLE LOWRY OR GORAN DRAGIC
    2 FIRST ROUND PICKS

    FOR

    DWIGHT HOWARD
    GILBERT ARENAS OR HEDO TURKOLGU
    EARL CLARK

    POTENTIAL LINE UP WOULD BE

    STARTERS
    LOWRY/DRAGIC
    MARTIN/LEE
    HEDO/WILLIAMS
    HAYES/HILL
    HOWARD/YAO?/MILLER

    OR

    DRAGIC/ARENAS
    MARTIN/LEE
    BUDDINGER/WILLIAMS/
    HAYES/PATTERSON
    HOWARD/YAO?/MILLER

EITHER SCENARIO WE WOULD HAVE SCORERS AND WOULD HAVE A DEFENSIVE PRESENCE. WE WOULD HAVE GAVE UP A FULL LINEUP BUT STILL HAVE A DECENT CORE OF RESERVES.

WE WOULD HAVE A VERY HIGH FG PERCENTAGE WHILE KEEPING OUR POSSESSIONS HIGH. EVERY ASPECT OF OUR GAME WOULD IMPROVE.

IF LOWRY WAS TRADED WE WOULD LOSE WITH ARENAS, BUT AS LONG AS HE DOESNT HAVE TO PLAY LARGE AMOUNTS OF MINS WE WOULD BE OKAY WITH DRAGIC PLAYING AND IMPROVING

MARTIN AND LEE NEED NOT BE SEPARATED

WILLIAMS WILL HAVE HIS CHANCE, WHILE EITHER BUD OR HEDO WILL STILL START OVER HIM UNTIL HE CAN PROVE HIMSELF

HAYES DESERVES TO START UNLESS A STAR PF IS ON THE ROSTER. HE WOULD BE MORE EFFICIENT AT THE 4 SPOT. HILL WOULD HAVE TO DO, BUT PATTERSON IS PREFERRED.

HOWARD WOULD PLAY HOW MANY MINS AS HE WANTS UNLESS WE ARE ABLE TO OBTAIN YAO, IF WE HAVE HOWARD IN HIS PRIME AND YAO ON DECLINE, OUT CENTER POSITION WOULD BE ON LOCK. WE WOULD BE ABLE TO HANG WITH ANY OF THE BIG BOYS. IF NOT MILLER WILL HAVE TO HIT THAT HIGH POST

IF WE CAN KEEP MARTIN AND CO WE WOULD INSTANTLY BE A CHAMPIONSHIP CONTENDER. HOUSTON THE ODDS MAY ALWAYS BE AGAINST US BUT WE DO HAVE HEART

    GET ER DONE MOREY.....PLEASE!
