If I were Denver - I would love to have Ron Artest and filler to get rid of over - rated K-Mart and his killer -albatross contract....

If Vince Carter thought he was 'the man', he'd be a much better player. The guy is way too passive most of the time.

He's an injury risk, but still a better player than Lewis and Harrington.

As a Dallas fan I would either give Harris or Howard (Harris moreso) and a scrub to match salaries for Artest. These wins are nothing more but a false sense of security. When playoff time arrive, we'll be cringing like a couple of b****es again at the sight of elite caliber perimeter threats and get creamed on the pick-and-roll unless we make a move, and I believe Artest would be of tremendous help in those areas.

Harris and Van Horn for Artest and Croshere. RealGM accepts.

    OK, I've readjusted my goals.

Time to get realistic about the return for Ron.

Seattle won’t part with Nick-freakin’ Collison. That’s reality. Rashard Lewis, Maggette, Vince Carter—pipe dreams one and all.

If the Pacers can’t get Al Harrington, and they do want him since he's best friends with Jermaine O'Neal and a legit low post scorer, President Donnie Walsh will go with his stated objective of accepting a young guy with some potential.

The play of Danny Granger may make accepting a project OK.

Here is a list I put together after scanning the middle and bottom of the depth charts of potential trading partners for available young players. It is my opinion that one of these guys will be the “headliner” in a package, probably combined with a fairly useless castoff or bad contract, for Ron.

    Some make ME groan.

    The list:

    Gerald Green, Boston
    Melvin Ely, Charlotte
DaSagna Diop, Dallas (IMO Daniels and Howard aren’t really available)
Nene, Linas Kleiza, or DerMarr Johnson, Denver
Ike Diogu, Chris Taft, Pietrus, or Beidrins, Golden State
    Luther Head, Houston
    Chris Wilcox, Clippers
    Andrew Bynam, Lakers
    Hakim Warrick, Memphis
    Rashad McCants, Minnesota
Arvydas Macijauskas, Boki Nachbar, Maciej Lampe, and/or Jackson Vroman, NO/OK
    Shavlik Randolph, Philly
Martell Webster or Viktor Khryapa, Portland
Johan Petro or Robert Swift, Seattle
Kris Humphries, Utah (they don’t want Ron, they could be involved in a 3-way)

Please tell me if I’ve left anyone out.

I would bet that if the Pacers don’t get Al Harrington, one of these guys on this list will be a Pacer within 2 weeks.

Personally I think the best deal is for Nene, assuming you can sign him with his Bird rights, and get Earl Watson too for defensive purposes.

I can live with that or Harrington, a package from Golden State or New Orleans, or a potential future lottery pick.

Here you go Pacertom. Swift, a first rounder, and Rafer to Atlanta, Al and Delk to Indy, Artest and AJ or FJ to Houston.

That's not too bad. Indiana would obviously rather have Houston's 1st round pick too, for taking the generally useless Delk, but it makes some sense.

Someone is going to get a bargain in Ron Artest, assuming that he enters a "honeymoon" period and behaves for a year or so.

    After that, watch out!

That list is really undervaluing what I think you'll get for Artest. Come on, Diop for Artest? Golden State may be the best place to deal.

That said, Portland, Charlotte, and New Orleans aren't going to be trading partners, unless it is as a third party.

As to the Vince Carter thing you mentioned, keep in mind O'Neal's has only averaged more than 21 PPG since last year (last yr a career high 24 PPG). Carter's done it 6 of the 9 years he's been in the league (23 PPG this year). It's debatable to say that O'Neal would be a clear cut number one option on offense.

Chad Ford: (12:22 PM ET ) I don't know exactly what he has on the table ... so this is just speculation. But here are three deals I think are plausible that I'd do if I were Indiana:

    1. Artest to Golden State for some combo of Mickael Pietrus and either Ike Diogu or Andris Biedrins. Indiana gets a couple of nice young players, doesn't take back contracts and the Warriors get a guy who could put them over the top.

    2. Artest to Golden State, Mike Dunleavy to the Clippers and Corey Maggette to the Pacers. This is more complicated by the fact that Dunleavy is a poison pill player meaning a number of other players would have to be included to get the money to work. However, I read in Sheridan's blog that the Clippers wouldn't swap Maggette for Artest. But if Dunleavy were in the mix, I think that would change.

    3. Artest to Minnesota, Wally Szczerbiak to Cleveland and Luke Jackson and Drew Gooden to Indiana. Minneosta wants him, the Cavs could use the shooting and the Pacers have always like Jackson and could use Gooden as a nice trade asset.

And that's what's scary. If Golden State gets him look at their starting lineup.

    B Davis
    J Rich
    Artest
    Murphy
    Foyle

Or if Denver gets him for their package, then they've got

Watson or Miller (whichever one is not traded)
    Artest
    Melo
    Camby
    Walmart

That's pretty good starting 5s for each and they are both giving up players that aren't contributing a whole lot to their teams currently.

Now we'd have to be able to go out and add even more to our perimeter to keep up with not only SA but also GS and Denver.

That's why I don't think we can just sit here and wait for somebody else to grab Artest. If the right team gets him, there's another contender we've got to jump over somehows with our aged, slow backcourt which is our weakest spot and these other teams strength.

If Atl is really willing to accept an injured Nene and either Watson/Miller in a three way exchange for Harrington, with no guarantee that Nene will turn out to be a player, or come back from injury, or even re-sign with them, then why would they not consider Swift and Rafer for Harrington, who could be shipped to Indy for Artest. And why would JVG and CD not be interested in offering that deal.........and possibly sweeten it with a 1st round pick to get Artest..........and if nothing else..........keep him away from our rivals?

A possible one I haven't heard is Artest and Croshere for Larry Hughes and filler.

Howard and Harris are untouchable or so Cuban says. Daniels can be had for the right price and that definitely spells R-o-n-A-r-t-e-s-t.

Unfortunately, with us piling these fuzzy math wins and creating the false aura of a legit championship contender - I doubt Cuban will be forced to make any changes.

Kobe and Phil want Ron, and they are reportedly upping the ante and offering
    Odom.

A big contract (Odom), but pretty good return in talent. Will shift the power balance in the West if Phil can keep Ron under control.

Needs approval of ownership on both sides.

Odom is such an inconsistent airhead, but there aren't many 15/10/5 SFs around and he has a lot of skills. I hope it happens unless another team offers a better player than Odom, which is doubtful. I don't think Phil will be able to keep Ron Ron under control.
