Amen...mister jump into the air and hope to draw a foul. I mean I love his hustle and game tempo changing, he is not starter material. It would take teams all of 2 seconds to game plan for Lowry, just lay off of him and let him shoot. And we have seen that show before.....Cough..cough...Rafer...cough cough... DD
Currently he is a great backup pg for our team, nothing more. Unless you're trading AB for another starting PG, you would be making a mistake. Lowry would turn from one of the most loved Rockets to one of the most hated in a couple months.
wow, that you can compare Lowry to Rafer is pathetic on your part. Shame on you. They only way Lowry starts for a team is if they have a superstar SG that hit's 3's. Lowry would be a starter for the Lakers, not here.
Only in his shooting Reek, got to understand the context....Lowry is way better than Rafer overall, but in his shooting abilities they are pretty danged close. Just watch how teams are laying off your boy Trevor these days and letting him shoot it from the outside, and packing the paint on Landry and Scola, now factor in them doing that with Lowry too, and that makes the paint even more crowded. We need players that can make shots to open up the paint for the entire team....Brooks is the answer at PG, now we need a SG/SF that can do it too.... DD
Good thing he knows he can't shoot 3's. He stays in his comfort zone and succeeds in that. Can we please ask AB to stop with the Rafers errr floaters. I get flashbacks all the time when those go up. I'm not a big fan.
But he makes them a lot more often, and it keeps the defense honest.....as long as Brooks is making buckets, then I am fine with what he is doing. Right now he is the Rockets best player and it is not even close.... DD
Keeping 'em honest earlier in the game is one thing... but doesn't it drive you nuts at least a little bit though at the end of games when we need 2 points, and AB goes to the basket and gets absolutely mauled roughly 2 out of every 3 times? Maybe even 3 out of 4 times? In those moments, the microscope is on his size - it's harder to force it when you're smaller - etc. I do def. agree he is the best Rocket right now - how could I not agree with that - but conditionally I would like someone else sort of taking over at least more so towards the end of games (and Landry has been on the right track for that for the most part - even among the league leaders in 4th qt. points, is awesome/impressive/yada yada yada). It just sometimes feels like Aaron is given one too many chances to create at the end. Perhaps it's one of the several underlying reasons why this topic started up.
I strongly disagree. I think one of the main reasons our bench has outplayed our starters at times, is because Lowry changes the tempo and the pace when he enters the game. Yeah, his shot is suspect, but he does so much on the court that doesnt show on the box score. The guy is the ultiamte hustle guard, and gives teams fits at times. He is a very strong rebounder, great on defense, and just a high IQ basketball player. This is no rip on AB, because I love what he does with the starting spot, but Lowry is just a beast.
Doesn't bother me one bit because it is : A. A learning year B. A year in which he is getting his respect from the league Eventually those calls will go in his favor, as he gains stature around the league. People forget that this is his first year as a starting PG. FIRST YEAR ! And if you think about it that way, he has been amazing. DD
To point out Lowry's deficiencies while making a case for Brooks is just not fruitful. While most obviously think AB should be starter (me included), to say that Lowry would make a god awful starter is just ridiculous. The OP merely pointed out that because of AB's size, Lowry would make a better starting PG on a championship team. While I dont agree with this notion, he's made good arguments. Of course Lowry can't shoot (its well documented and that's why he's a backup), but to point all the fingers at him is quite ignorant. He does plenty other things well to make up for his poor shooting. I myself think he's another year or 2 away from starting, but this thread is turning into Lowry bashing which is just not justified.
Wait, so getting "absolutely mauled" and no-called every 2 out of 3 or 3 out of 4 times where there's an endgame scenario when we need points, and RA puts it in AB's hands, and he goes to the basket... and we lose... that's "amazing"? No disrespect to AB, but I think we can devise significantly better approaches in those situations, or at least switch it up a little bit there.
It is not about bashing Lowry, it is the same crew that is making the same argument about wanting Lowry to start over Brooks. There have been TONS of threads about this topic, each with it's own little small change, and the same cast of characters is in there making the same arguments. The problem is, they have been 100% wrong the entire time, and meanwhile Brooks continues to blow up, right in their faces. No one is discounting what Lowry brings, but his deficiencies are EXACTLY why he is not a starter, nor has he ever been in the NBA, he is GREAT off the bench as a change of pace guy, I love his grit, his hustle, his determination and his tempo changing play, but in all honesty, Brooks is just a far better overall player. If Lowry could shoot, he would be even better, even just develop a midrange game ala Sam Cassell, but for some reason he is just not a good shooter and jumps into the air far too often with nowhere to go, in hopes of drawing a foul.....sometimes it works, sometimes not....eventually if he was starting teams would be easily able to game plan around his faults. DD
Nope, that is our best option. The only other option is to get better players to help...who on the team would you want to make that play late in the game? AB is our only option at this point. DD
e.g. pass the ball more in those situations to an open shooter, and build those first year PG skills (which could be more amazing frankly - but again, not trying to AB-hate here).
This is, again, his first year starting. I don't remember Kobe hitting game winning buzzer upon game winning buzzer his first year starting either. He has to learn how to hit the big shot, and maybe, your right, he can't. But in that case I feel like we need better and more clutch players around him, I don't think trading Aaron because he can't hit the big shot right now is the best option.
Joining the fray late this morning. Reeko, you've nailed it on a couple of points. Lowry is far better than Rafer. The only similarity is their distance shooting. Lowry is vastly superior defender, rebounder and most importantly, finisher.
