Not even close to true......you can only run every so often, and most of the games require half court execution more often than fast breaking. Brooks can do either, Lowry can not. DD
Hey DD would this lineup work? Yao/Haywood/Andersen pick/Landry/Hayes Butler/Ariza/ Martin/Battier/tayor Lowry/free agent
No, he can't be a TP or Billups. He's too small, will always be a liability against posting guards. It's still quite debatable if AB is the best player. He is only the best offensive player on this team, but his defense and other part of games are weak. Even if AB is the best player on current Rockets, that doesn't mean much at all. Many team's 2nd best player is better than him, and some teams 3rd best player is better than him too. So I see nothing wrong to trade AB if we can get an upgrade. He is still a role player after all, a very good one. But building around AB gets you nowhere.
He is not too small the new rules protect smaller quicker players, AB is perfect for today's NBA.... I am sorry that people like you can not see the forest through the trees....and are pining for the good old days of a pass first PG....that is fine too, but only if said PG can also be a scoring threat. Brooks is our answer at PG for the next 10 years. DD
He is too small defensively, no matter what rules you apply. The game has two parts: offense and defense. AB has very good offense, but in the same time, his defense is costing points. That's one of the reason his +/- is never that impressive. You only look at one aspcet of the game: scoring. I don't mind AB being a scoring first PG, and that is very much needed for current starting lineup. But it all depends on the make up of this team. If you can get enough offensive players in starting lineup, Lowry would be the better fit because that would make the team more balanced. AB could be the answer for the PG, or somebody else. It all depends on what personals this team will have in the future. AB should be a very good role player building around some star, not the other way around.
He outplays almost every PG he goes against, so there is no data that he struggles on defense other than made up BS about his size. DD
LOL - so now you want to compare team wins and losses like they are just one players fault, instead of one on one direct comparisons. You lose, again ! DD - FTW !
No, I'm not judging a player base on win/loss only, but I don't think your statement of " AB outplays almost every PG he goes against " is remotely true. Many times he might score more, but he isn't outplaying them over all.
Only in the eyes of the guys pining for Lowry to start. Meanwhile the knowledgeable fans realize the value of Brooks. DD
Claim yourself knowledgeable fans is all you have now? I said from beginning in many threads that AB needs to start on current team. But if the team is a lot different in the future, there would be nothing worng for him to come off the bench to provide scoring. You have a habit of making false claims in this thread. "AB is near all star level", "team should build around AB", "can't trade AB unless we get a top 5 super star", "AB outplays almost every Pg" etc. Once they are pointed out, you shift topic to something else.
Exactly. Just because you score more doesn't make you better/a better overall player. PGs I have above/would take above Brooks Rondo Paul Westbrook Rose Billups Williams Nash Honorable mention to: Parker
All those things are true, you just don't acknowledge them. 1. He is near all star level and was considered as a possible all star replacement. 2. The team should build around it's top 20 scorer 3. We should not trade a budding star player unless it nets us a superstar. 4. AB does outplay the guys he goes against. The song has always been the same, you just don't like the lyrics. DD
Ahh yeah, I was going to include Evans but wasn't sure if he was playing PG or SG. And not sure how I forgot about Jennings. But just look at Brooks numbers, when he isnt scoring, what else is he doing? Not saying he is bad, but far from untouchable, untradeable, elite, etc.
Question for all: What kind of contract does AB's production call for as a Free Agent (Yes, Dada, I know, I know, seriously I know we're not there yet) Another way to think of this -- what do you pay your 2nd or 3rd best player (which is what I assume folks think AB's natural role should be on a contending team) - MLE? - $7MM-$8MM/yr - 9-10MM/year (we all know that's Caron Butler's current contract) - $11-12MM/year I'd put up examples of the other salaries, and voice my own opinion, but I don't want to skew the responses. Everyone loves them some AB at his current rookie contract. Does everyone want to pay AB his fair market value when that comes due when we're building a team? Consider this: -- If Yao's health does not work out next year, we could blow up the whole thing at the end of next year because the contracts of Yao, Battier and likely a lot of what we get for Tmac will expire next season. -- Coincidentally, the 2011/2012 season is when AB becomes a RFA. -- So we may yet get to see whether Morey is willing to build around AB when he's paid at or near market value.)
Riley, I think you let the market determine that fact when it happens. The new CBA, the current market, and the market for his level of players. DD
Dang, you won't answer a single question I pose that relates to the actual creation of a roster with salary implications. Cmon man, that's not fun. I'll provide some reference points. Rajon Rondo's FA contract starts at $9MM Tony Parker makes $12MM Chauncy Billups makes $12MM. Derron Williams makes $13+MM Are you willing to go $9 - $12MM for AB's production (19.5ppg, 5 apg, excellent shooting from the field and from distance). Any takers out there?
No more than 10 mil. (Yeah yeah I looked at some of the top PG salaries.) Spoiler Gilbert Arenas, Washington $16.2M Deron Williams, Utah $13.5M Chris Paul, New Orleans $13.5M Steve Nash, Phoenix $13.1M Tony Parker, San Antonio $12.6M Baron Davis, LA Clippers $12.1M Chauncey Billups, Denver $12.1M Rajon Rondo, Boston $11M Monta Ellis, Golden State $11M Mo Williams, Cleveland $8.8M Devin Harris, New Jersey $8.4M Jose Calderon, Toronto $8.2M Jameer Nelson, Orlando $8.1M Jason Kidd, Dallas $8.1M
