The only thing that we can do is to cut back Cuttino's minutes. Not cut back a lot, but 8 less minutes a game shall do it. GET KENDALL GILL.

How much stock can we really give a writer who says:

There is no Dream shake talks going on...this guy is way behind times or simply inventing rumors so we can to look at the advertisements at his website.

Let me ask you all one question: has the media ever called a rockets trade before it happened. This is not a rhetorical question...I really don't know. I can say the Houston media has never reported one that I can remember, but that may be because they purposely keep their lips sealed for future stories.

I would make that deal yesterday. Kendall Gill has played small forward in New Jersey and is a strong defensive player. It would mean we would have to play small, but like you said, he is in the last year of his contract and we could clear some serious salary cap room.

He is 6'5. Anderson is 6'6. We would be a small team but we will be a running team. Kendall Gill can help alot on both ends of the floor.

    LETS DO THE DEAL!!!!

How much does Gill get paid?

Probably everyone who is a Rocket fan would be for that trade and that is the problem. If it is too good to be true, then it probably isn't. If some fans were having doubts about the fairness of the trade, then it would be more likely to be true.

The Nets have as many or more problems to address as the Rockets and I don't see Walt and TMass as solving the problems.

Well, Shooting Guard is Kendall Gill's natural position. And Rudy T. says that SF is Anderson's "natural" position. Now if you start Gill at the 2 and Anderson at the 3, we are only one inch shorter than last year. Dickerson was 6'5 as is Gill. And Pippen was 6'7. One inch taller than Anderson.

P.S. Props to Stone Cold Hakeem

Achebe my freind, you are right about those numbers.

2-5 on 3 point attempts. Walt would be darn proud of that himself. Gills tragic flaw I thought I heard at one point was his shooting.

To quote a female Canadian, "Isn't it ironic?"

Bring on GILL. There is no reason to not make this trade, absolutlely none.

    achebe,

anderson and pippen where free agent acquisitions or sign-n-trades. not much need for management to keep those quiet.

i'm asking more about trades that involve players on our team. The rockets seem to have good control over leakage. as for the francis deal, i'm sure nearly every team that could pull it off had speculation.

Let's look at other trades: Horry/Elliot, Drexler, Barkley, Willis, Dream/Toronto (Toronto leaked that), Mack/Rhodes. I know those first three where complete surprises from the Houston media. Notice we completely shut down the Dream talk once Toronto leaked it.

I must question whether the Rockets would leak anything regarding this team in the middle of trying to get them to gain confidence. Guys like Mitch Lawrence are being paid to invent and spread wild speculation. I just don't see articles like being worth taking seriously. Gill just fits our needs in our ability to renounce him this summer for cap room, as I mentioned in another thread. Getting rid of Walt is a dream, so, Mitch knows the rumor would get attention.

Enough of being the scrooge to fun trade talks:

I'll partake in the fun a little...I'd focus on Jamie Feick in a package with Gill. TMass/Walt/Bullard for Feick/Gill. Feick is wrapped up until 2005 at $2.5m average. Might be the best buy out there--next to TMass and Rogers!! Besides, I believe any trade for Gill\Walt would be about renouncing rights to Gill in the summer to free up Walt's $5m in cap room. RudyT has already announced he's not looking to trade for quick fix vets.

Feick is like 4th in rebounds. I think he would be untouchable.

    caucasion and dana,

Great....I found some people who appreciate small, over-achieving centers. I agree: Walt/TMass/Bullard wouldn't be enough. Here's one of my favorite fantasy deals:

Using some salary cap numbers I've rolled out in another thread),

    Gill/Feick for Walt/Cato/Bullard

This matches current salaries at about $7-8m this year. (don't make the common mistake of confusing their current salaries with what they are slated to make next year).

Walt and Cato are $10.333m next year. Feick and Bullard are equal. If you pull this trade, and renounce Gill this summer you save $10.333 towards the cap next...that's a lot of money. It puts us at about $32m, or $5 to $6 million under that cap.

You lose Cato, but end up with Feick and $5m-6m to spend this summer, or save for the following summer, to go with Dream's $15m.

With Jayson Williams, Kittles, Marbury, Van Horn and MacIlvaine all locked into longterm huge contracts, NJ has little chance of being under the cap for many years.

Since saving cap room can't help them much, my trade scenario asks two simple questions: who would they like better Willaims/Feick/MacIlvaine or Williams/Cato/MacIvaine

and who would we rather have: Cato and no cap room, or Feick and $5-6m to spend this summer. More trades involving Drew\Thomas could also get us to the glorious $9m mark in cap room.

How about that for fun trade speculation!? This is purely for fun...I have no inside info to back up the likelihood of this happening...but I bet you Mitch Lawrence doesn't either.

    Meek Feick

No way NJ lets go feick. Solid rebounder. LA could/would give more for him.

    Two Gill questions

    1) Isn't Gill a selfish player that would bring bad habits to a young team?

    2) If so, is his help worth exposing the rooks to his bad habits?

    Pure speculation

If the Gill deal is true, I would expect the rocks to try to send Gill somewhere else in a three-way deal. Gill and Rogers could be an intersting trade package once Hak's back. The rockets would be thin on big men, but VHam or twashington could be called into service early.

    One question I have:

    1. Is this purely a salary cap maneuver for Gill's shorter contract or is Gill really going to be a part of our future?

I like the take that someone had about William's downside (poor shooting & contract0 offsets T-Mass's good points. I am a fan of T-mass and think he could help as a solid 4, but I love getting rid of Walt.

I'm not willing to part with Cato. I knew when this guy was in Portland, that he had a lot more talent than he had shown. He still has more for us. His post game will come along, and he will become a player known more as a nightmare than as a big man who walks like a goof. DON'T TRADE CATO. He and Francis are untouchable.

Well, according to The Rocket Guy, the nets were not interested in Walt or TMass but in Carlos Rogers. I think this rumor is a dead done. But you never know.
