I think Fitch used to bench Sampson when he wanted to win, not lose. The poor guys on that team were not good enough to tank . . .

Excellent post CBrown,,,which i say with no small amount of envy.

There is something up with Popeye and management...somewhere and at sometime. Man I wish I knew just one agent, trainer, doctor or even towell boy on the rockets. If Popeye is still listening to this thread, now that anything you have to offer us from the inside or even first hand rumors is the entire reason I think Clutch has put together the finest source of information on the rockets and the funnest bbs.

I am attempting to provoke more info from you...not just politely solicit...but passionately demand. I love this game. Thanks for contributing to the threads popeye. i look forward to your writing.

Now, back to CBs Top Ten...we have an age out of Popeye...he said almost 50. The age, his passion to join us pathetic bball junkies on a computer bbs (smile people), and his apparent disagreement with some management decisions is consistent with Calvin Murphy...that's my guess until I realize there is no way Calvin could put out lucid thought number 1 or come close to Popeye's command of the English language.

Another thing CB, I never did get the Sampson biography title out of you...wasn't it "Sampson: the donut for the 80s".

you know who I should have put on that list of possible idenities for Popeye is Mike Newlin. Actually, Mike Newlin would probably call himself "Mike Freaking Newlin."

Anwyay, the Ralph Autobiograhy was called "Ralph Samspon: A Life Above The Rim." I recall naively walking onto the court during warmups before a game as a younster and asking him to sign it. Ralph was flabbergasted that I would walk onto the court, and so were the police who whisked me away. i have no clue what I was thinking.

    Did not get the autograph.

Yeah that's it, but what's with the book listing at Amazon:

"Ralph Sampson: the center for the 80s"
