Well, OP has already suggested Amare (who despite the OP's complaints about injuries, has missed more games over the last 4 years, as well as their careers than Yao) and Thabeet, so you can start there.
hmm TMac for Amare.. not Yao lol I might want two really good all star guys for Yao, or someone like Bosh and a semi all star. Honestly, I am clueless who to trade for Yao. So lets just stay put for now.
Agree 100% re: max contract. However, Les may reason that Yao essentially pays his own way, what with Les' Chinese income. Now, that's not the optimal way to field the best basketball team, since Yao will eat up so much cap room and likely end each season wearing Armani or Brioni. But it likely is the way things will happen. This, of course, increases the degree of difficulty for Morey, as he will continually have to: 1) Find players that outperform the value of their contracts; 2).Trade players either when their perceived value is higher than their actual value or just before a predicted decline; 3) Prepare to field a championship level team utilizing 75% of his payroll; 4).Prepare to field a team flexible enough to play with or without a center that plays optimally in half-court sets; In an unenviable position, to be sure. Then again, that's why Morey makes the big bucks.
What makes people think Yao is asking for a MAX? The guys already making money off of endorsements. I think a Championship is more important to him.
But you are not Alexander, dude. Alexander and Morey will not trade Yao for the next three years. So you jsut waste your time crying here for something that will never happen.
What makes you think he ISN'T? This is, likely, the last big contract of his career. In fact, it might be the LAST contract of his career. When have you known an athlete IN THEIR PRIME to not take a max contract, if they so deserved? Fwiw, I hope you're right. You already know by now that I wouldn't give it to him. But it would help the team tremendously if he would take FAR less than the max.
I think the crew would rather the pack be distracted by this red meat, than wander the GARM, dropping new threads as they roam. (I agree w/ the OP in general, but I don't think a new thread about this was needed.)
Yes, twice in fact. I'm quite sure he didn't turn them down because he wants less. I'm sure Yao knows that he can get the max in Houston or any other city he chooses. He probably turned it down for one of two reasons: 1). Wants to see the direction of the team, or 2). Wants to explore his FA options when his deal expires. If you offer me a dime and i say no, don't assume its because i only wanted/needed a nickel.
Dissending opinions are not meritorious of being locked. Whether you agree with him or not, he has made very cogent points, hasn't been vulgar, and is definitely easier to read than some other postings here (clear and coherent).
Yao rarely missed a game in his first three seasons. Then he broke his leg on a fluke injury. Obviously, we're all concerned with the stress fractures he's had in the past two seasons. If it happens again, I'm not sure what will happen to Yao's career. I love Yao's game. There are still some things he can still work on, mainly defensive rebounding and turnovers. No way you trade arguably the best center in the World. All we can hope is for him to remain healthy for a full season.
1. If the team is moving in the right direction with proper players and a contender. I see Yao taking less. 2. If Not Yao will be looking else where that he can get both the MAX and a contender in that team or take less on a team that's already a contender.
no contender will spend the max on yao knowing his injury history. the only teams willing to give him the max are teams like NY knicks, who's willing to spend and be mediocre, but know yao will help them make money. i think he'll be worth around $10-11 mil next yr or so if he's injured again and yao will be nice enough to take that money.
Man i'll bet yyou are even dumber than you sound. pro sports is a business. goal is to MAKE MONEY. Winning a championship doesn't make money over the long term. But when you sell tickets, tv rights, merchandise, etc.....that stuff makes money. if the way to make money in pro sports was to win championships...there would be no owners in any sport. only 1 team can win so we are to assume only that team makes money...or the top 2-3? foolhardy. These owners are businessmen and the odds of winning are too slim so it makes sence that they make money other ways. not to mention yao is not the 1st big player to have these problems. and he could very well go on from here and be contributory to a strong team. too soon to jump ship on a player of his caliber. Even stoudamire was a possible bust during his microfracture comeback. And still could be
What has Yao ever said to make you think he'll take less money. i think you're wishing and hoping that Yao will. As i asked you earlier, name me one athlete who - IN THEIR PRIME - turned down a max contract to take lesser money.
I agree. Why not also fire Mr. Alexander, Mr. Morey, the trainer, the doctors, heck why don't you guys fire the Toyota Center too!! Oh I forgot the RPD's, the ushers vendors whoever. What a bunch of nonsensical fans are here in this town. Fire is the name of the game so just fire whoever.
