I'm sorry, but regardless of whether trading Yao is a good idea or not, trading him for Thabeet straight up is a terrible idea. You're willing to dump the BEST center in the NBA (Howard is really close, but not there yet) for a college kid, and one with questions at that? No. we haven't seen the guy play one minute in the NBA, you have no idea how good or bad he will be. Personally, this draft is weak enough that I'm not too mad about not having any picks. I think the move will be to 5/6 as I think Morey wants Harden and thinks he can get him. What we need is a 4/5 player that can open up the floor for Yao and back him up when he's on the bench. I don't see the Suns dealing Stoudamire now that Shaq's gone, so who else is there? Tyson???
EXACTLY. if you don't like that 'hater' label, don't make asinine comments such as "Yao hasn't done anything since coming to Houston." Your credibility also takes a hit when you want to compare Yao's numbers vs Jefferson's. If your only going to look at stats to determine if player A is better then player B you need to stop watching basketball, right now. I mean Z-Bo puts up better numbers than Pau. We'll leave it at that. btw... Ever see Al Jeff play defense? He has no where near the same impact that Yao has on the defensive side of the ball, and offensively Yao still commands more attention than Jefferson. Name me one Big that forces the opposing teams entire defense to scheme around him? You got Yao... and you got... hmm... umm... ? Duncan? Maybe? Naw..
Great post! I hear what you're saying. Yao has played as hard as he can and given his all. No doubt there, but that hasn't cut it has it? One year out of the first round where he didn't even have that good of a series in the first round? People seem to forget about how easily Portland held Yao after game one. And yes, Celtics won the Championship, but my point was the Celtics were able to find a team that had a player like Garnett that wasn't working with the current team he was with, sort of like Yao Ming is here, and were able to bring in Garnett. The Celtics gave them a nice package and brought in a player that was able to put them over the top. It's quite obvious that Yao isn't going to ever put this team over the top. It's been proven time and time again when he's healthy. So why keep him, if he's never going to be that guy? Trade him while you still can. And that's not even accounting for the fact that he can't stay healthy any way. Bottom line is, every year with the Rockets it's that same old saying before the season "if only the Rockets could be healthy then............." We've all heard it, and it's time to learn a lesson from that Tmac debacle we just went through and get younger.
No, I think he wanted: Mike Dunleavy (3rd), Drew Gooden(4th), Nickoloz Tskitishvili (5th), DaJuan Wagner(6th), Neno Hilario(7th), Chris Wilcox(8th), Amare Stoudamire(9th) - In hindsight maybe but it's a huge jump from 9th to 1st plus it's debatable the impact Amare has had to the Sun vs Yao and Rockets., Caron Butler(10th) - good but dunno if he's a game changer type of player
You have't added any analysis at all as to why Yao is so valuable for the Rockets other than being trade bait right now. He can't even stay healthy for one, and for two when he is healthy you just double team him and he's done.
You rest your case that you want to trade him for a college player? Ok yeah, sure. What has Thabeet done? How about Amare? Al Jefferson? If you want to go by past achievements, there aren't that many players available to trade for.
Texx, let me give you some advice that will help keep this thread from being locked. If all you have to say to someone is insulting, dont say it. If this thread degenerates into a shouting match of insults I will close it in a second.
WOAH THERE BUDDY. There's a big difference between being a "bandwagon" fan and liking and respecting a player. Clearly the man isn't a complete idiot. If we trade Brooks, I'm still going to root for him. If through some miracle Dikembe went and played, even for the jazz, i'd still cheer for him. Yao has, regardless of what you think of him, done everything he could to the the best he could be for this team, and as a result has earned my respect no matter what happens.
Why is thread still being debated. The topic is valid, but the OP makes the most asinine arguments. Fact is, Yao is the best center overall. Fans of other teams will disagree because, hell, they can be homers just like some of us. You say he didn't do much in the Portland series beyond game one, but thats because they figured out how to play him. They put 2 freaking centers on him just to hold him. No matter how good you may be...putting two 7"+ players on you is going to make it tough. My question is, did we not win that series? Dwight couldn't hold Yao. Yao embarassed him. None of the other centers can match up against Yao. Okur only takes advantage because he plays like a small forward. I think you're just talking out of your a$$ here....
Hey I'm no big fan of Amare but he's easily been a more effective player than Yao when healthy. That's a no brainer. Al Jefferson for Yao right now would be a steal. Jefferson just plays on a really bad team. Garnett wasn't doing anything with the Wolves either when he was there so you're uninformed once again. And Thabeet is an intriguing young talent who has an entire career ahead of him vs. a guy that finally got out of the first round of the playoffs and has been hurt for the last 3 seasons and is currently hurt right now. This is the same stuff I heard from a bunch of funny guys in here when myself and a few others said to get rid of that heartless wimp Mcgrady who ruined the trade and hurt our team this season. I knew we'd be better without Mcgrady, and we were much better, and Mcgrady showed how much he cared about our team by staying away all year long and picking the Lakers to win it all. The same goes for Yao. Time to move on.
"He can't even stay healthy for one, and for two when he is healthy you just double team him and he's done." yeah, just double team him and you can win.....what happened to portland? yao is one of the few players in the league that gets double and tripled team. do you even understand basketball?
Excuses excuses..... That's all i hear from you. I've made very clear explanations and ellaborated on a lot here. How about you making a real argument for why Yao is so valuable using some numbers and real analysis instead of this "He's the best center in the league" garbage. Are you even aware that there only like 4 or 5 good centers in the league period? Lol! The center position is no longer as important as it was when Hakeem and Robinson were around. Many 7 footers play the PF position now and can go outside a lot more just like you mentioned with Okur, but then you made another excuse for Yao. Stop with the excuses already.
The OP is either an attention seeker or has an agenda to have a trading yao thread at the top of the page on this draft day. Every GM knows this will never happen so what's point to talk about it while there are so many other exciting rumors going on? Stop feeding the ...
You rest your case? LMFAO. If you wanna be a blind stat lover... here are the stats. Yao's playoff numbers: 19.9 ppg 9.4 rpg 1.5 bpg. Yao's playoff record: 13 W - 15 L Al Jefferson's playoff numbers: 6.1 ppg 6.4 rpg 1.1 bpg. Al Jefferson's playoff record: 0 W - 7 L Stop posting, your making yourself look real bad.
I guess Brooks, Scola, Landry, Battier and Artest had nothing to do with winning that series then ha. Yeah, Yao's little 12 and 14 point performances or whatever that was sure was EPIC. One for the ages that will be remembered for a very long time. Right up there with Kareem. I mean, Prysbilla sure did figure out Yao Ming pretty quick didn't he. Lol!
