Aint got time for all that readup at the moment I think the reality of what Spanoulis is CURRENTLY is settling in. A mid 2nd round pick who hasnt produced much of anything when given the chance and has even looked bad, who's play has dictated almost nothing to earn more play. He should follow the Novak and Padgett way and just keep practing and don't go so public with the frustration. Novak was expected to be an immediate contributor to this team according to most reports, so why isnt he feeling "deceived" he hasnt gotten more time?
There is really only one person publicly said VSpan will be as good as Steve Nash. I am not sure he ever posted on this board, but I do knwo he is much taller than you and me. Wait, was he indirectly ripping Rafer???
You want to see him, because you want to see him sink or swim. It's the "mystery" of it. Just like Dan Langhi. Spanoulis played about 20 minutes less this season than Lucas, and has done far less. And Lucas is a few months younger. So, here's what I see you saying - you have two point guards of practically equal age, both signed for 2 years beyond this one, and have been given roughly equal minutes to date. Giving both minutes is unrealistic. You want to take the minutes of the guy who has done better and give them to the guy who has done worse. Why? Edit: As for the original post, trading VSpan is silly. He's under contract for a reasonable amount for 2 more years, and has plenty of time to show he's not a waste. He just needs more time to figure things out, and I hope he does.
you will get nothing better than a 2nd rounder for this "some kind of Jason Kidd with a Steve Nash jumpshot and Magic Johnson court vision" VSpan
It's really nice to hear someone finally say this, the V-Span love on this board is out of control. I love seeing what excuses everyone comes up with when he does play, let him go...good riddance
I don't get people who are moaning about how Vspan doesn't get his chances. If he is as good as some of you claim (doubtful) then he would be playing now. Like JVG said - he put in whoever he think will give him the best chance of winning. JVG see VSPAN play way more than anyone else so I trust JVG judgement. If VSPAN wants to be in the rotation then he'll have to earn it. He's not special just because he came from over seas. He doesn't automatically get minutes. He'll have to earn it. I actually want to see VSPAN play for 20-25 minutes. I want to see what he can do. I haven't seen enough of him but I understand why. Do you think JVG doesn't play VSPAN just because he hates him or something? No doubt JVG love veterens but if VSPAN has as much talent as some of you are claiming i'm pretty sure he would be playing minutes. Basically... I think VSPAN should play his heart out in practice to earn a spot in the rotation and try to make the best of it. He shouldn't have expected to be in the rotation after just coming over from Greece. My personal opinion on this matter.
While I would like to see VSpan get more minutes and believe he has shown signs of being a contributor, I more strongly believe that JVG (despite real and imagined flaws) is currently in the best position to evaluate his progress. No one wants to win, nor takes a loss as hard as JVG, and he is not so stupid, nor inflexible, that if VSpan could help us win he would be playing. I also believe that JVG recognizes VSpan's abilities, and when JVG believes he is ready, he will play. For now, sit back and be ready when that time comes...
You are misquoting me. I said he has not had an in-game legit 'chance'. Maybe he doesn't deserve a chance at this point, I don't know, but I wish he were on the court in rotation for two weeks to see for myself. Sure I'd like to see the kid play. Why? Because I'd like to judge for myself. I like Little Luke as a 'change-up' and let's face it, this team needs a little less RA and a little more 'change-up'. I can't imagine than Span is the answer for the '07 play-offs.
JVG needs to take the chains off and let Spanoulis play his game. The guy has great vision and a nice feel for the game. When VSpan isn't having to think so much out there and just play he''l be fine. I hope it happens under JVG. To trade him right now would be a major mistake......
I'd keep him for atleast a year or two, but if there was a good offer on board.. I would consider trading him.
on 610 AM radio, quick Van Gundy sound bites about his talk with Spanoulis, -Van Gundy said Spanoulis said "I was McGrady back home"... Van Gundy said that in the NBA you have to learn how to play off of stars and its a difficult adjustment in this league to make. -Said that complaining will not help his cause much, and "he's being his own worst enemy." *edit* -Spanoulis said to him "basketball is basketball", and Van Gundy commented how its different in the NBA, and can't just go about it so easy... Not sure what that means for Spanoulis, but I kind of like how he craftily outed him with the being McGrady quote.
It's nice to know that the greek version of McGrady cant dunk, cant shoot 3s worth a crap and averages about 1:1 turnover/assisit ratio. Maybe the Shaq over there can actually make a freethrow
......hmmmm the "basketball is basketball" comment is interesting. That sounds a little bit cavalier like Bonzi saying he knows what to do.......get the ball to Yao, get the ball to TMac, etc. etc.
Why do you get such impression? Most of us think he may have the potential to be a starting PG for Rockets because his physical conditions. That's it. His potential to become a star is low, leave alone the superstar like Nash and ...
What the hell!!?? Even further proof of why my first statement was what it is. For me to say fans believe he's "Jason Kidd with Steve Nash jumpshot and Magic Johnson court vision" is not far fetched after all.
http://www.elmundodeportivo.es/20070118/NOTICIA247007656.html don't know if anyone here nows Spanish but apparently Barca are really after the guy. its been all over the Greek web too.
I don't even know what it says, but do it. I see "dinero" which is money. So we could probably use whatever money we get and sign someone more useful aka Melvin Ely.
