I think Tmac is better than (From the above list). Allen Iverson Baron Davis Deron Williams And equal to: Dwayne Wade (he is injured now) Dwight Howard (Great but can't create his own shot) KG (How good was he without teamates?) The rest I think are better than him. DD
The T-mac that has been our best playmaker the last 4 years pre-Adelman is still better than Deron, Baron, Dwight Howard by far. I'd also take him over Iverson because Allen, while he is a warrior, has weaknesses that are easily exploitable by any elite team. I'd then put him within the tier of Nash-James-Wade... he does some things better than those guys, and some things worse. Overall, he's just as versatile and athletic. Now, if this was a quesiton of who would you rather have over the next 5 years, or if you're asking this assuming that T-mac will be chronically hurt, then you won't get an accurate answer. If the question is whether or not a healthy T-mac is a top 10 NBA player right now, the answer is yes.
agreed. like i said just for kicks.. these top 10's are always to difficult to qualify..just gaging to see if what people's thought process is.
It's a moot point because you won't get any of those guys for T-mac. At least not until the off-season. But don't worry - everything is going to be dandy. In a few more week...maybe a month at most, you're going to be back on the bandwagon because the Rockets are poised to take off. Blastoff baby - it's going to happen any day now.
The majority of this board can only remember up to 5 games ago, thus you're going to get some severely flawed responses. T-mac didn't magically regress from a guy willing to take all the pressure of the playoffs into a team cancer in 30 games. Likewise, Yao didn't regress from a guy dominating at 25+ ppg into a guy who has zero comfort zone, scoring less, and basically useless if he's not scoring. The team is just in a whole lot of flux right now... and creating more flux (by trading T-mac) isn't even close to being the right answer.
ahh never off the bandwagon my friend.. Ill admit after 4 years of blind faith in t-mac, that blind-faith has changed, but doesnt mean im not hoping he can still acheive something great.
Oh, I'm am not confident because I have blind faith. Last year I pissed everyone off when I said we had too many scrubs to be a contender. I'm confident because of what's I'm seeing in the games. I'm seeing that Rick Adelman is making our offense work. And it's still a work in progress. But imagine, if you look at how well we have been playing without t-mac and still considering that our offense still has a lot more work to be done....we're only going to get better and better. All the ingredients are there for a launch. Team getting the offense. T-mac closer to coming back...and a soft schedule ahead.
It's not a simple yes or no question. Trading a $20 million dollar player is never going to be an easy thing especially whenever that player is plagued by durability and motivation issues the way T-Mac is. You people do realize other teams see the same problems and faults in him that we do, right? Since he makes so much money any possible trade would likely be some sort of 1-for-2/3 or 2-for-3/4 or something along those lines. Since we're already at 15 players that provides the added headache of deciding who to cut to trim the roster back down to 15 again. For better or worse we're "stuck" with him. The only way I would consider dealing him was if we got equal value which is almost certainly never going to happen due to the aforementioned reasons. I would be absolutely sick to my stomach if any of these preposterous Sam Smith trade ideas of T-Mac for Hinrich or Ben Wallace ever came to fruition.
The only reason I believe T-Mac should be traded is because he deserves better then Houston fans. Its BS when everyone accuses him of taking plays off or faking injuries. Trade him to somewhere where he can be appreciated for his talents. I've been following T-Mac since he was in Toronto. He has always been my favorite player to watch. The only reason he appears to "coast" is because he moves so gracefully. When a ball is passed to his opponent he is guarding he has not 1 time EVER TAKEN THE PLAY OFF. Hes a tremendous individual defender and it appears he is coasting because he doesnt run all over the court because he is either defending his man or his zone perfectly.
I said no because the player that I will trade him for will not be available, so I prefer a 68 games T-mac that a bunch of bad contract and role players. Remember to trade him you going to have to pick a bunch of money back.
As I write this, 224 have voted and about 55% want T-Mac traded and 45% want to keep him. I admit that this is not the most accurate poll that could reflect what members of this board really believe, but even though I didn't spend multiple paragraphs about what a realistic trade would look like, I still think that most people that voted for T-Mac to be traded are simply fed up with him. They're tired of his injuries, lack of a willingness to drive to the basket more consistently, causing the offense to be stymied at times when the rest of the players just stand around, and never getting past the first round. It seems like regardless of what we might get in return, many of the posters here seem to just want him out. Some of those that voted to trade him may actually have some unrealistic hope that we would get top 10 talent in a trade, but I really do feel that most of those wanting him out just want him out - rebuild, get players that are more adept at a Princeton-type offense, get better shooters, younger players, healthier players...whatever half-decent players we could get in return would be better than having T-Mac to many fans right now. That's what saddens me. Everyone wanted Rafer out from Day 1, yet he's proving every game why he deserves to be the starting PG. The majority of this board was on the bandwagon to get him run out of Houston for nothing (especially when some of those criminal charges came out), but he's shown to be the best option we have all along to run this offense. Most sports fans are "what have you done for me lately" fans, but trading T-Mac just doesn't make sense. Let him come back healthy and contribute to the team. We need him to score and we need him to take attention away from Yao. Hopefully, he's learned a little more about this offense during the time he's been watching the games without being in them. T-Mac is not a selfish player, nor is he a dumb one, so ball movement can still occur effectively. I believe the main reason he's been less aggressive is because of certain injuries. He's had a lot of time off, so I'm hoping he'll be fresh and ready to do what he does best. Even though I was preparing for the possibility that the poll would be skewed in this direction, it still kinda surprises me. It's really a case of jumping to conclusions too early.
Screw all of you guys!!!!!!! TMAC DESERVES BETTER THEN HOUSTON ROCKETS FANS....TRADE HIM SOMEWHERE HE WILL BE APPRECIATED FOR HIS UNREALISTIC ABILITIES
I'm all for trading TMac.....but I'm a Rockets fan not a Yao or a TMac fan...a die-hard ROCKETS FAN!!!! So even if I want TMac traded...I'll be really excited to see him back in action when he gets the clearance to play.
Nice thoughtful response, but we've been watching T-Mac for four years. I don't think it's "too early" to draw conclusion. Les Alexander seems to have about four years of patience, too, by the way. It's funny that you say T-Mac might learn from these games he's been watching. I wondered the other night about asking the board whether you think he even watches the games. I admire your faith in this guy. I just want to say, I went to the press conference to welcome him to town, I've watched countless hours of his team, I've paid hundreds of dollars for tickets. I'm not just questioning T-Mac for fun. I'm questioning him because I think he IS NOT GREAT but he SHOULD BE. I want to make the Rockets win, not lose. OK, so I'm an idiot and T-Mac's supporters are smart. Idiots can just as easily love a player as hate him. Why are there so many idiots hating this guy instead of jumping on his bandwagon? They have been persuaded by the evil media instead of the save-TMac posters on this board?
Check out the thread on Ric Bucher's interview with Richard Justice. Bucher basically admits that there's no way to get equal value in trade for T-Mac but that at some point the Rockets need to get off the "morphine drip" that is McGrady. Ouch. I don't think T-Mac is going anywhere this season--probably. If he comes back and four or five guys are scoring in double figures in every game and offensive productivity is good (close to 100 points a game) then keep him forever. If he comes back and the offense goes back to two guys scoring and everyone else standing around then, yeah, trade him in the off season even if you can't get a superstar back. Kind of makes you curious to see what's going to happen when T-Mac gets back from injury.
