http://www.nba.com/transactions/movement2003_index.html Wow, right there...Rice traded to Utah damn...
holy crap!!!! Utah Cooks Up Trade The Jazz acquired Glen Rice from the Rockets for John Amaechi on Tuesday. Both teams also receive draft considerations.
I can't believe they did this trade. I was hoping they would parlay Rice's contract into something good. Crap!!! Crap!!! Crap!!!!
No offense, well I guess I kind of mean offense, but MLC...... how many of these threads have you started - quoting some obscure radio station, news article, talk show from some remote Montana location (that by some coindidence - has not had many interesting call-ins since the unibomber was incarcerated)??? If this is news, the ESPN insider would be all over it
what is Ameachi's contract situation? EDIT: And the Jazz make no secret that they would like another team to take the remaining two years and $5 million of John Amaechi's contract off their hands. http://www.sltrib.com/2003/Jun/06292003/sports/70991.asp I think Ameachi can fit in here, because there will less expected of him. I guess the Jazz thought he could have been a player to rely a lot on. who knows, but the Rockets didn't want to pay Rice 9 million I guess.
You gotta be freaking kidding me!!! I thought an Rice's expireing contract was worth more the freaking Ameachi's!!! And we throw in a 1st rounder. Hell why ask for Ming while your at it. WE GOT SCREWED!!!!!!!!
"Houston trades Glen Rice, a first-round pick and additional draft consideration to Utah for John Amaechi, a 2004 second-round pick and a conditional second-round pick." Holy ****!!! Are the rox r****ded? A 1st rounder for this bum? That article has to be wrong.
this is the dumbest trade i have ever heard of. We give up our only veteran, a good 3-point shooter, and basically our only SF for an overpaid, british tea-sipper who has blatantly said that he doesnt even like to play basketball? Not only that, but we give up OUR first round pick for THEIR second round pick? complete and utter BS!
I think it would make more sense to determine who we have that matches Amechi's contract. If there were other Utah players, they would have been mentioned. We got rid of most of our players ... so, the selection is few. Maybe Moochie for Amechi/Lopez, or something like that.
Oh my golly. We must be clearing space to do something else pretty quick. Otherwise this makes less than no sense. Something else has to be coming.
It is news: NBA.com Transactions by Month: September 2003 DATE TRANSACTION Tue., Sept. 30 Atlanta signs Lee Nailon. Houston trades Glen Rice, a first-round pick and additional draft consideration to Utah for John Amaechi, a 2004 second-round pick and a conditional second-round pick. Milwaukee signs Lynn Greer, Antonio Meeking and Greg Stempin. New Orleans signs second-round pick James Lang and free agents Kareem Reid and Paul Shirley. Toronto signs Stanley Roberts.
I am completly stunned by this trade... it just doen't add up. I am with most of you, I hope this is just the begininng of a bigger, better move. Why the first round pick as well? I think these guys straight up would have been enough...
Maybe the Rox envision that first-round pick as "worthless" since they plan on having a really really low pick, for a guy who they'd rather pick up in the second round anyways (and thus, they avoid having to sign a 3-year deal with him)
There has to be more in the works since we freed up some cap room for this season. Signing? Trade? I still don't get why we threw in a 1st rounder AND another pick. There has to be more to this that we don't know.
