Interestingly enough, Favors’ measurements compare quite favorably with those of Dwight Howard, a player he draws some (perhaps slightly optimistic) comparisons to. Howard measured just a quarter of an inch taller than Favors at the same age, was five pounds lighter and had a wingspan just half an inch longer. His measurements are comparable to the likes of Chris Bosh, Nene and Emeka Okafor, and are superior to those of Al Horford, another player who he’s often compared to. Maybe because the mid rd picks cost double compared to 2nd rd picks. I don't have an answer, but I know,I know dumars was trying really hard to get rid of the pick. Maybe gm's were't that enamored with the talent past 8 or so. Just like this year, from about 10-40 the talent is pretty equal. So what you will have is a lack of movement probably. Teams will view 5 guys in the same group and probably won't fall in love with any of them in that group especially with the wings and the big guys.
If the Rockets is taking back Elton Brand, they're not taking him back as a player but as a price tag in order to get the 2nd pick. I think that if Morey has the 2nd pick, he wouldn't trade it but most likely draft the 2nd best player in the draft in Turner. Cousins is a good player with a upside but the chance of him being a bust is very high. Cousins is too risky.
This is why i said morey plays the p.r. game very well. What was said prior to the draft? Ok, if it is or was known the draft was only 10 players and the the ability to get to 10 was a stretch, why act like the rockets will get into the first round if the value isnt there in the first round? The book on the last lotto pik was an odom clone in earl clarke. Maybe that wasn't good enough or maybe they felt a guy like daye had too many holes, but that was known prior to the draft and through scouts.
Yeah I know, I've seen that article. Favors is a great athlete, but really raw. Cousins though has some really good low post skills, and seems to have very good all-around touch from what I've seen(and heard). I'm just wondering what DM would do in my hypothetical situation.
so... Howard was really raw to coming into the league and the Magic picked him head of Okafor who a was more polished at the time and a lot of pple had him as the #1 pick. Look how that turned out. Thinking about it I would really rather have Favors. If we could do a deal with Minny and possibly Nets since they have the 3rd and get Rubio and Favors on our team... Imagine Rubio running the show with: *a dead eye shooter like Martin on the wing *an athletic 6'8" guy that runs the floor in Ariza *protol-type Dwight Howard esque PF/pick n roll master Scola *and the Big Guy. Favors could easilly take over when Yao needs a breathe and could possibly be the the next franchise center. forget everything else.
It's already done in my head. About to start a thread discussing what can be had for Brand's expiring in 2012.
I doubt the pick "cost double" in terms of money, because the 2nd rounders cost $2 mil and the cash you can pay in any NBA trade is $3 mil. I am guessing Detroit's price involved a future pick, another lower 1st rounder, or taking a somewhat stinky contract off their hand. Typically 1st round picks, except very late ones, don't move for just cash as far as I can remember. For example, I recall Portland got the Rudy Fernandez pick (24th, I think) from PHX by agreeing to use a Trade Exception to take James Jones's $9 mil, 3 year salary off PHX's hands (and maybe throwing in some cash). Dumars' price for the 15th was probably something like that. One thing about Morey's pick trading is that he tends to do it on draft night and when he knows who would be available. I believe the Lakers pick got sold days before the draft. Probably part of the reasons why Morey wasn't in on the action. The Taylor, Llull and Budinger picks were bought on the night of the draft, probably shortly before when the pick came up as far as I remember (might have had a deal in place conditioned upon availability of player X).
They also gave up their 2011 2nd round pick, which could be high. And to be fair, there is world of difference between a 29th pick and a 15th pick. Just because you see some teams sell bottom 1st round picks due to their guaranteed contracts, doesn't mean ANY team will ever sell a mid-1st rounder for just cash. Even if a team is desperately cash strapped, like Phoenix when they sold Luol Deng to the Bulls, they still would ask for future picks back. Not just cash.
lol i think this is fake because we give up almost damn near nothing to get brand and the #2. maybe its real because its so ridiculous??
Then you missed the whole point of the trade from the Sixers perspective. This trade depends totally on two things. 1. How desperate are the Sixers at saving money 2. How many teams are willing to eat so much salary for a horrible player. The Rockets are one of the few teams in the league today willing to take extra salary for no reason.
Pretty interesting if what OP is saying is true. How the guy mentioning this deal, also was in the loop for the deadline trade. Any proof? If so, then this trade scenario becomes that much more legit
