I think Les would accept Brand's contract if it meant landing Cousins and Rubio. He's repeatedly said he'd go over the cap for the right player. In this case, it would be two players. It's a deal you have to roll with. You just can't pass up a chance to scarf up that much young talent. Hell, I'd offer Brooks and the number 2 for Rubio and the number 4. It's a swing for the fences kind of move, but there are never any guarantees, because risk is an inherent part of professional sports.

Minny wants Martin? Fine. We'll draft Evan Turner to replace him

    Jeffries, Anderson, Johnson, 2012 1st round, 2011 2nd round + cash

    for

    #2, Brand

    THEN

    Martin, 14th, budinger

    for

    #4, Rubio, filler

Next season, We end up with:

    Yao / Cousins
    Scola / Hill
    Ariza / Battier
    Turner / Taylor
    Brooks / Lowry

2 years from now: CHAMPIONSHIP CONTENDER

    Yao / Cousins
    Hill / Scola
    Ariza / Battier
    Turner / Taylor
    Rubio / Brooks

Yeah, lebigeez mentioned Dorsey. My post was in response to his assertion that Dorsey was "all" the Rockets got out of Morey's wheeling and dealing.

Hey, if Morey were to do this deal and then trade the #2 for the #4 straight up, then we would still have the #14!!!
    GET R' DONE MOREY!

This is a no brainer for us. As bad as Brands contract is, he is potential getting us someone worth the max. Is Brand and whoever we draft with the second pick worth 20 million a year. This is only 4 million more a year than Bosh and we can a very serviceable player with good character in Brand.

what does brand have left on his contract. Maybe its worth taking him and using him in another deal or something!!!

wouldnt think anyone would want him

If he could be a decent contributer off the bench then thats pretty good.

I am not sure but doesnt he have a huge contract and getting paid All star money and he likes all star attention!!!!(biggest locker problem)

Locker room problems are the last thing we need.

Are we really going to keep this pick. If we were to get Cousins or whoever else....are they going to contribute this year enough to take us far in the playoffs, or is that just sign and trade bait to get a chris bosh or another top tier star.

I just dont think morey wants to keep a rookie as a main piece. When you pick someone that high in the draft. He better be your starter. I just dont see morey doing that. I think this is all bait for sign and trade. Sign and trade is only worthed is if we only give up this pick(we get from toronto, getting a big salary in elton brand) to get a top tier player..If we have to give this pick up with other players to get these superstars and we had to take back this horrible salary that elton brand has then this is not worthed!!!

anyways Cant wait for the Draft!!!

Inflation is staggering!!!! Heck, we should have knocked on wood when we were making fun of the hyper-inflation in Argentina, Mexico, etc.

I know one thing from the past few seasons....I'm not believing a damn thing I read. Morey isn't pulling the okie doke on me again. I'll just wait by and see what happens.

First off, why were they even near the lux tax? They traded for scoal and had to take back jackie butler and some other scrub. They bought 2nd rd picks when 1st rd picks were availible for the same price. I know the reasoning and i wount fight it, i just don't buy intothe up down and move around to recover from a mistake anyway. Who didn't know francis was done? I know it was only 2.68m, but he was done just as barry was done for his 2m. What did we get honestly? I know morey is great at the p.r. game. I'm more into seeing is believing.

bECAUSE THEY KNEW THAT IT WOULD NOT COST MUCH TO DUMP fRANCIS' CONTRACT AND THOUGH THAT FOR $2.68 AND THE POSSIBLE COST OF HAVING TO DUMP HIM, THEY MIGHT AS WELL TAKE A CHANCE ON fRANCIS?

nOBODY SAYS THE FRONT OFFIC DON'T MAKE NO MISTAKES, AND ALL THEIR MOVES WORK OUT. oF COURSE NOT, ESPECIALLY WHEN YOU TALK MOVES LIKE 2ND ROUND PICKS AND $2.68 SIGNINGS WHICH HAVE A VERY HIGH FAILURE RATE IN THE NBA ANYWAY. tO PICK ON A gm FOR STRIKING OUT ON A FEW OF THOSE CHEAP ACQUISITIONS IS JUST ASSI9.

Man that would be great to end up with Cousins, AND Rubio.

The only problem would be if NJ wants/or would bluff wanting Cousins to get Turner. If we get #2, and trade it for #4, and Rubio then would NJ pick Favors or Cousins? Would they try to trade up with us for Turner, and then if we go with Min. instead pick Cousins just to screw us? Does NJ have any pieces that we want(aren't giving up Lopez). T.Williams maybe?

What if we weren't sure what they'd do, and it would come down to Rubio/Favors, or Cousins/whatever we get from NJ?

Myself I'm ready to roll the dice on Cousins, and actually have more ????? on Rubio, and Favors.

I still don't see why the sixers would do it. Its not like they are in the LT or something. Why would they give up a player that they could build a franchise around.

I know, those dumps happen all the time. The bigger the contract, the more you can get. The jazz dumped maynor and harpring to the thunder. Maynor was a late 1 and harpring was 6m+. The clippers absorbed camby 2 yrs ago. Every year, mid 1st round pick and later are for sale for cash and just becase les decided to buy 3 this last year doesn't mean wheeling and dealing was worth it. I'm pretty sure they couldve just bought the pick if they wanted. Just for note with all the talking about the first rd pick buying, i can put my bottom dollar on the fact dumars was selling the 15th pick last year for the same amount the 2nd rd pick was purchased for.

So, the Rockets decided not to buy the 15th pick even though it was going to cost them the same as the 2nd rounders?

Which mid or late first rounders were sold for cash last season?

Favors could be Superman lite. And Rubio is worth a look.

Heck if this goes down this changes everything. trade Kevin Martin for a legit center. Maybe trade Martin+fillers(hopefully keeping Hill and the 14th) to Minny for Al Jefferson since him and Love don't get along and they can draft Cousin. we'll be ready to go.

    AB/Lowry*
    Turner/JT*
    Ariza/Battier*
    Jefferson/Hill
    Yao/Jefferson/14th pick Whiteside :D

That looks like a championship contending team to me.

Why is everybody posting like it's a done deal? You all do realize that it's an unsubstantiated rumor? Do I think the Rockets made the offer(or something similar)? Yes I do, but even the OP pointed out that the 76ers are waiting for better offers. If none come then they still wouldn't have to do the deal. Some of you need to get a grip.

First of all, the 15th pick was being sold for no less than $3M. And in a draft that was not 15 players deep as far as highly valued prospects, no team really cared to pay the $3M for the right to draft a guy they could just as easily get at #25 or #30 and pay him an extra $2-3M over the life of his contract and possibly push your team into luxury tax territory in the process.

And, for the record, the Rockets paid $2.5M for the #32 pick, $2.25 for the #34 pick, and $1.75M and a future pick for the #44 pick.
