i mentioned the same thing about motay and yao earlier in the season. i was just thinking about typing "motay's no randolph", but given the same amount of shots and the opportunity of being a go-to guy on a struggling team... i dunno. anyway, as cato's minutes continue to decline, motay's getting more minutes. just after the season started it always seemed that either one or the other was effective while the other was in the game... not both, but it seems that they've worked their way around that somehow... i dunno... better spacing, if one can't get good position the ball is swung around to the other post player, etc. they've had some pretty nice passes to each other. i think it could work, but this late in the season and having someone else come in and learn the motions... i'd hate that. i change my mind. i have no idea if i like the trade or not.
And, IMO, Mo relies much, much more on a mid range J that actually meshes with Yao more than ZR does.
good arguments from both sides. I don't know either. I'd still like to give this team the full season together and then evaluate our roster in the offseason.
nice comeback. not sure if i recall randolph hitting a few outside j's or not during the games with the rox. i do remember him getting a few offensive rebounds and putbacks though.
After this trade who would the team leader be? Snow? JJ? Usually the star is the leader, at least on all the championship teams that I can think of.
I like the trade a lot. Zach Randolph is the next best thing to Brand, and we should all let go of our Brand fantasies. He is not being traded, period. Why the HELL would anyone prefer Rasheed to Randolph is beyond me. Rasheed has been mediocre this year. He simply doesn't seem to care anymore and a strong second half seeking a new contract is not going to convince me otherwise. Snow runs the point and we get to keep Cat and Cato? No brainer! We can still trade them both later if needed and they are an attractive package to a LOT of teams out there. Patterson brings defense and toughness, and Woods... if it doesn't work out, just let it go. Remember that JVG has a reputation for dealing with bad apples succesfully. Spreweel became a model citizen under him. This is a better deal then the Ray Allen one. If Cuttino doesn't adapt, I'm sure that he and Cato can bring the right SG to us. It's a great deal, but I don't believe it has a chance of happening. We get WAY too much.
There was a thread fadeaway made not too long ago asking what would each of us be happy trading Francis for. I listed quite a few. I didn't include Zach because I didn't think it was realistic for Portland to consider trading him. But as some have stated in this thread, maybe the arrival of SAR has changed their plans. And they have been wanting to jettison Patterson forever. I'd be all over this trade. Get a legit pf(god how long its been since barkley) and a pg who can defend, run the break, and set up his teamates? Sign me up. I wish GATER or someone would weigh in with the cap possiblities/ramifications of this proposal. I don't want to look it up.
I would take a ballhog that shoots 48% any day. Who cares where the points are coming from? Someone earlier said corretly. We would be a front court dominating team. Cut the crappy nonsense stupid decision making and bring people who get the job done.
Real GM says: Houston trades: PG Steve Francis (16.8 ppg, 5.5 rpg, 5.9 apg in 39.9 minutes) SF Eric Piatkowski (4.8 ppg, 1.6 rpg, 0.5 apg in 17.0 minutes) Houston receives: SG Ruben Patterson (7.7 ppg, 4.2 rpg, 1.9 apg in 24.2 minutes) PF Zach Randolph (21.3 ppg, 11.0 rpg, 2.3 apg in 39.4 minutes) SF Qyntel Woods (4.2 ppg, 2.8 rpg, 0.9 apg in 12.8 minutes) PG Eric Snow (10.6 ppg, 3.6 rpg, 7.1 apg in 36.1 minutes) Change in team outlook: +22.2 ppg, +14.5 rpg, and +5.8 apg. Portland trades: PG Damon Stoudamire (12.8 ppg, 3.5 rpg, 6.1 apg in 37.5 minutes) SG Ruben Patterson (7.7 ppg, 4.2 rpg, 1.9 apg in 24.2 minutes) PF Zach Randolph (21.3 ppg, 11.0 rpg, 2.3 apg in 39.4 minutes) SF Qyntel Woods (4.2 ppg, 2.8 rpg, 0.9 apg in 12.8 minutes) Portland receives: PG Steve Francis (16.8 ppg, 5.5 rpg, 5.9 apg in 50 games) SF Eric Piatkowski (4.8 ppg, 1.6 rpg, 0.5 apg in 27 games) Change in team outlook: -24.4 ppg, -14.4 rpg, and -4.8 apg. Philadelphia trades: PG Eric Snow (10.6 ppg, 3.6 rpg, 7.1 apg in 36.1 minutes) Philadelphia receives: PG Damon Stoudamire (12.8 ppg, 3.5 rpg, 6.1 apg in 50 games) Change in team outlook: +2.2 ppg, -0.1 rpg, and -1.0 apg. TRADE DECLINED There were BYC players involved in this trade, so this trade is subject to the BYC provisions of the CBA. Due to Houston, Portland and Philadelphia being over the cap, the 15% trade rule is invoked. Houston, Portland and Philadelphia had to be no more than 115% plus $100,000 of the salary given out for the trade to be accepted, which did not happen here (only Houston and Portland met the condition). This trade does not satisfy the provisions of the Collective Bargaining Agreement.
Well, I remember rooting for them back when Clyde was the man and they faced the Bulls in the early nineties... You guys are underestimating Randolph. He is borderline All-Star at the age of 23 and has nowhere to go but up. Properly coached and with the right guidance, I'm sure he will play adequate defense. Bring a PG that can run a system without being a turnover machine in Eric Snow and you got me convinced. We still can trade Mo, Cato and Mobley later if we want to fine tune our lineup with the RIGHT SG! If Seattle wants to trade Allen, wouldn't they consider Mo, Cato and Mobley for him and Booth? It's a good package.... Yao/TBD Randolph/Spoon JJ/Patterson/Griffin TBD/JJ Snow/MJ
You do the trade in a heartbeat. Big for small is always a great deal. Not sure the logic behind Por doing it. This would just add to their headaches.
I'm not sure about this trade because although I think Zach Randolph is pretty good..and Eric Snow is a good point guard...Steve Francis is still an All Star and one of my favorite players and he's just our franchise. If this happened..like with any trade..then we would be different. Randolph has some pretty good stats.. I guess it would be an OK trade except that Randolph, Patterson, and Woods are all pretty bad guys. The Blazers would get rid of all 3 of them in one trade..nice.. I don't think JVG can control all 3 of them...our chemistry would be messed up. Do we have to get Woods and Patterson? Randolph and Snow would be just fine. Maybe they could give us...a good guy. Thanks for the excitement!
