Francis would then be their cornerstone.

I hope the rumor is TRUE. You nailed the Moochie trade, and hopefully this one, as well...Thanks for the head's up...

Just a thought, perhaps now that the Blazers have SAR they feel Randolph is expendible. Perhaps the Blazer brass feel if they are going to make "sweeping changes" they should go "all out" and make those changes. Bonzi, Wallace, and McInnis are gone. They would love to get rid of Patterson. Woods has had legal issues. Again, perhaps the opportunity like this to totally RECHANGE the team and at the same time get someone like a Francis is VERY appealing to them.

Their thinking...the Randolph/Wallace era is swept away to the Francis/SAR era.

if we do get him maybe we can trade him off the bat and then get something more useful in return

Boston fans are talking about trading Pierce for Randolph.

Talent wise, the trade looks pretty good with Snow the PG, Randolph the PF. The only concern is what the Rox is going to do once Randolph is caught smoking.

Why not just do this, then...

Mobley/Mo Taylor for Stoudamire/Randolph...they have been trying to move Stoudamire desperately...

We would move Francis to the 2.

Our backcourt would be small, but our frontcourt would be pretty good...

If a trade is to happen, I wouldn't expect it to go down before tonight's game. No point losing any key team members right before a game. Makes more sense to do it over the All-Star weekend when there is more time to adjust.

Having League Pass, I usually flip through a lot of games, and I all I can say is that Randolph is a stud, but not a leader. However, I would personally would rather keep Steve. Patterson has a nice game, but comes pretty pricey.

If the Rockets do make a deal w/ Steve involved, I hope its for an athletic superstar (T-Mac, Allen, Pierce, etc....). I know its a stretch to get these guys, but Randolph isn't a leader. As bad as Steve is playing this season, he is the leader of this team, and w/o him, there would be no order to the offense.

Steve controls the tempo of the game and we all saw what happens when he doesn't play (vs. Suns). I agree w/ Deuce, I think we can get a lot more for Steve than Randolph.

Good Point. Would "-00:00:01" on tonights game clock be appropriate?

Exactly. In fact the Hawks/Blazers trade was done on the afternoon of the game but could not be completed until after the game to make sure the players were healthy.

To elaborate on what Chad Ford said.

He basically questioned why Portland would make this trade, and said something along the lines of "why doesnt portland get on the phone and do this ..."

That's it, there was no, I talked to the GM etc etc. It wasnt speculation, a rumor. It has no more substance than anyone else proposing a trade on this board.

try reading the thread before you make a post and make yourself sound stupid.

The reasons why this could and could not be a real rumor from good sources has been discussed...

I can't see the Rockets blowing up the team in the middle of the season with a new coach unless it is for an upper echelon player. Maybe if a top-tier player is available, but certainly not for a couple thugs from Portland and a decent PG.

on the one hand, randolph is a 20/10 guy at the age of 23 (or is it 22?) which is amazing. on the other hand, he's not that tall (but has long arms) and is not a shotblocker at all, which is kinda hard to swallow. he seems to have a very soft touch which would help with spacing but i've seen very little of portland to know how he does when the ball is swung his way. most of his shots seem to come out of iso.

so on the one hand, a young 20/10 guy should be intriguing (we won't have to worry about rebounds or offense depending on which PF is on the floor like now) but on the other hand i'm still not sure he fits.

same with snow. snows 7 assists don't really mean anything if you just want him to dump it into yao. the fact he can't shoot will mean something when people double yao.

woods and patterson? patterson has the D but can he shoot, not really. woods i have seen very little of.

so on the surface, we seem to be getting quite a bit of talent back (probably even more than we are giving) but if that talent isn't going to fit (i.e. spread the floor and help yao with interior D) then what's the point. we'll just get pissed at how it's working out in a while and want to make another trade. whatever trade we do make needs to be a one and done type deal in terms of the players we bring in are staying for a long time. auxiliary trades with other guys on our team might be ok though i'm not keen on blowing up the whole team.

i don't want a pg who can't shoot if we're going to get rid of steve's scoring ability (even though he can't shoot right now).

offensively Randolf would be a great complement to Yao. If you double up on him, Zach will make you pay, and vice versa. I rarely get to see Portland but from some of what i've read and the few games i've seen him he's not the greatest defensive presence in the world. I think that offsets itself if you've got Cato coming off the bench. He's been solid defensively all year long, unless he's guarding a forward who likes to hang out on the perimeter.

Elton Brand is the ideal complement to Yao. The question becomes, do Mike Dunleavey, Elgin Baylor and Donald Sterling want to part with their 20/10 guy for Steve Francis?

I think Philly firing their head coach might have lead to a chain reaction that has made Portland is willing to give up Randolph for Francis.

I think Mo Cheeks wants that vacant coaching job in Philly badly. Steve Patterson wants Rudy T to take over for Cheeks since they have history together. And Rudy wants Steve.

I did read the thread, and there still is no reason to believe this 'rumor' has substance. Have you read the ESPN article? Maybe you should before replying and making yourself look stupid. It was a suggestion, an offer, an extension to what Portland already did.

It's easy to say this proposal was overblown and spread throughout different message boards on the internet, where the title "rumor" or "insider info" got attached to it. There is still no substance to this proposition, and until I see a quote from the participating GM's it will enver be anything mroe than fantasy news.
