I agree give the guy a freakin break.. He's just passing along info he heard and i dont think thres anything wrong w/ that. Hell it gives us more things to talk about and discuss rather than why Yao dosnt get the ball enough, IMO.

Yes, that is correct. I never ever doubted them, though, and I never meant to imply that RRNYC was not telling the truth about having gotten the info either. If it came across that way, sorry.

I just think it is more likely that his source passed off what the source got from the media, and it is not actually happening. We will know soon enough.

I'd almost be shocked if a trade that a columnist made up happened days later. Imagine how much the guy could celebrate himself!

Yep. Anytime something significant happens and the board slows down considerably, that's what will happen.

Last night I shut the board down for almost an hour to contributing members only and I thought the discussion in the game thread was awesome. And no silly duplicate topics were created. Kind of nice actually.

Anyway, I'm done derailing the topic.

I understand Sir Jackie Chiles... it just irks me that certain posters are more concerned about making sure "credit" is not given then they are about getting legitimate information. This happened with Doc Rocket too - some people were just more interested in chasing him off or trying to discredit what he knew. And it's a problem in general that posters want to embarrass others that make a mistake or are not aware of something that the community in general is.

    You do...

it didnt happen as much in the old days...but as the site became bigger and more people joined that didnt know their history...they used to scoff and insult Doc and pops.

and pops wasnt above a scathing retort from time to time..

    ;)

miss those guys...hope pops is doing ok.

    That's cool, Jack.

If it had come from anyone besides RICH, Doc Rocket, popeye or Clutch, I'd have had the same reaction -- that it was just someone trying to piggyback a Ford column (LOL). But IIRC, RICH got the Moochie trade by two-way page too, so to me it was worth a listen and it was annoying to see one more RICH thread torn down by the same sorts of people that used to bash Doc and popeye.

    Anyway, peace.

SJC is the vigilante rent-a-cop of the bbs.

Just stick to quality posting, SJC. The real cops have things under control.

Yes, my initial post was wrong, too (the one where I quoted the thread with the fantasy trade), I should have said

"Might this be where your source has gotten the idea from"

    or something like that.

    Peace.

P.S.: I still hope it doesn't go down...IF we have to trade Francis, I'd hope for more...just not sure about Randolph...and the other two guys seem like troublemakers.

Sheesh. I was blocked out of the BBS because of intense traffic and all I could think of was "high-profile move" ... Unable to log on to the BBS, I frantically search the wires for news about a blockbuster deal (and donated some money to the Tip Jar). I finally get in the BBS, and this thread is causing all the commotion?
    Sheesh.

My two cents to the trade proposal....

If this DID go down that would give us this lineup

    1) Snow / MJackson
    2) Mobley / Griffin
    3) Jackson / Patterson / Nachbar / Woods
    4) Randolph / Taylor / Spoon / Padgett
    5) Yao / Cato

Basically it is Francis for Randolph. I have mixed feelings. Zach puts up great numbers and has really improved his game, but is he a good compliment to Yao? How about Randolph's defense?

I am just not sure about this move. What exactly is Francis' value? To me it is worth more than Randolph. Not much more, but more.

Honestly, I would be a lot more excited if we got Elton Brand in return for Francis. I am more confident in Brand and his ability to mesh with Yao.

I agree with Clutch and the rest of you that this seems like too much of a coincidence, but the fact that RICH got paged kind of pokes a hole in that idea. I just don't think that a source that RICH trusts (enough to pass it along to us anyway) is reading ESPN Insider and running to his pager. Is it at all possible that Chad Ford got one right? Or even that a GM from one of the involved teams read his column, said that makes sense, proposed it and got it going? It is weird that a trade might follow pure speculation, but it's almost equally weird to me that RICH's source would pass off a Ford column as a scoop.

Yes, I agree 100 %. If we could get Brand and Jaric, I would feel much more comfortable with pulling the trigger than if we get Randolph and Snow and a bunch of Jailblazers...

I totally agree. Brand and Jaric over Randolph/snow and the felons any day.

I like the trade. I think we could probably do better, but we could do a lot worse too. Granted, I haven't seen a lot of games this season (being in Albuquerque and all), but I just don't get the sense that we're moving forward. I see the trade as a basically lateral move at a time when change might be needed. And I'd rather go with a young Randolph than an old Wallace. Snow feeding Yao excites me too.

On a side note, if this did go down before the ASG, I'm guessing Steve would wear Blazers gear? Would make for a hell of an interesting weekend.

Yeah, I'm not questioning him personally, I don't doubt that he got the 2-way page he says he got.

Just his source. If he wants to let us know, or at least hint, how he gets his info maybe I would be more inclined to believe it; otherwise, the Moochie trade (which, honestly, does not seem that "inside" just looking at it in retrospect as I said before) being all I have to go on as well as allusion that somebody made once to a thread where the new uniforms weren't approved by the league. I'm just a natural skeptic in that sense.

I just think its kind of funny how when Chad Ford or David Aldridge or Marc Stein reports a rumor we all destroy it, even though they are pros whose job is to know.

RRNYC nailed the Moochie trade four minutes before it started hitting the main stream news...has the window passed? Thus passing this into the dead rumor closet?

I don't doubt RRNYC has his sources, and I appreciate him posting, but him stating this as "just a rumor" may have killed the notion before it actually had "legs".

Woods - Wasn't CD high on Woods (to the media) before draft day? I thought I recalled him saying some comments that might lead to our taking him with our 15 (I guess if Boki hadn't been on the board). Perhaps, it was smoke, hoping someone would trade up for Woods and leave Boki to us -or- perhaps it was genuine... If I recall correctly then it lends itself to interest with the JailBlazers. Just wondering if my memory of things that have no importance is still functioning properly... Anyone else recall the same?

I wouldn't put Ford in there since he says way too many things (which is pretty much his job), but when Aldridge or Stein report a rumor, it generally has something to it. There's a real difference though between reporting a rumor and the pure speculation we are seeing lately. They are stating clearly that they are making it up or that it would just "make sense" for all parties, but not saying that the teams are talkign whatsoever.

Yet, I'm still getting emails from people asking me if I have any inside info on the Francis-Ray Allen talks.

Sam: The difference between someone like RRNYC and someone like Aldridge is that RRNYC doesn't have to come up with scenarios to get paid. As a result, those other guys are wrong so much you learn to expect it. We know from people we've come to trust (like Clutch) that RRNYC is connected somehow. I just wish people would apply the appropriate grain of salt to their doubting posts, in light of that.

pariah: Ford's column wasn't a 'rumor,' as Clutch pointed out. It was speculation. It was a suggestion. If it's a rumor now, that's an upgrade.
