jay mariotti just proposed a trade of iverson to atlanta, sheed to houston, and francis to philly..........this has been mentioned a lot maybe its true
I keep getting stumped on this trade. Hard to tell. Steve is a 21, 6, 6 guy, Zach is a 20,10 guy.....Neither plays defense......Steve is a 3 time all star, while Zach is having his first good season, but is only 23.....i wonder what Clutch and others feel of this move.....
Randolpf is averaging 11 boards, 21 points, shooting .770% at the line, 2.3 assists, just under one steal and 39 minutes a game. He's not much of a shot blocker with .58 a game and averages 3.28 turnovers. Man, those numbers aren't too shabby for a guy halfway through his 3rd season. He's not perfect, but neither is Steve. And he isn't all we would get, according to Rocket Rich NYC.
Brand would be a better choice, but I just don't think we have enough 1st round picks to make Sterling do the deal.
If we do get Randolph, Woods and Patterson, we'd better hire a group of supporting staff for drug issues. Compared with the above 3, EG could be just a small potato.
I don't understand some people (I saw the unedited version of the post, Sir Jackie Chiles). Seriously. Why do you jump all over people who try to give you info? I'm guessing you're bitter that RRNYC made people eat it about the Francis-Van Gundy disputes, but there's no reason to get so defensive. Again, it's possible the person who gave the info to RRNYC has lost something in the translation when he relayed it, but I have no reason to doubt that he got the info. Let him investigate further. If it's an honest mistake, big deal. He was passing along what he heard. And lets get the facts straight. ESPN completely made up this trade. Totally fictional. It's possible Ford knew some teams were talking and had no info as to who was in the mix, so he made this up as a throw to the dartboard, but that's a reach. When Ford doesn't have anything, he makes stuff up for discussion ... but it's just filler for his columns and he does not represent it as real, just some people take it that way. This was his fantasy. Stein had something similar with the Hawks/Wallace in the mix instead of Portland, but that also was fiction. 610 merely was discussions this fantasy. NEITHER OUTLET was reporting anything as far as the teams actually talking in real life. As for my opinion, I don't know if I'm really thrilled with that proposal (though I don't know what can be had for Steve on the market). Randolph is an amazing stats guy in the scoring/rebounding department, but I'm not sure he's the ideal PF next to Yao. He's big, he's strong and he can get some boards and score, but I still think the Rockets need a strong defender as well at that spot, and Randolph is no weak-side shot blocker. He's not a great passer at all either. He's Elton Brand without the defense and quite frankly, that's no Elton Brand. He's only 22 though. Randolph IS the Blazers really, so I'm not sure one should pay a premium for his bloated stats because he's taking 18 shots a night in Portland. Snow would do nicely at the point though, while Patterson would strengthen the bench (especially defensively). Keep the babysitters away from the Toyota Center though. Woods is merely a throw-in, imo. Overall I think it's too big of a coincidence to be legit, but I'm sure we'll find out soon enough.
Brand would be perfect. I wish we could get him. But I don't think this deal is bad for the Rocks. Not perfect, but not bad either. And it sure as hell would shake things up.
I edited it after I saw your post. There were two reasons why I was critical of this. As you also say, it would just be too much of a coincidence that GMs make the EXACT same trade that some random columnist evidently made up just a few days ago. I have never heard of that happening, and this is not a simple trade, but a pretty complicated one. Second, ROCKET RICH NYC comes across in a very brash way and yes, he did the "I told you so" routine. If someone dishes out like that, I think they will be able to take it if someone is critical of them posting something as a rumor that has already been discussed as an ESPN fantasy trade for days.
So Clutch, are the non-contributing members locked out now? Not that I'm Donald Trump, but poor b@stards, if only they'd drop a few bucks on this site... Non-contribs - you could support one admin - for less than a cup of coffee a day.
Judging by this old thread, the Real GM confirmation of this blockbuster got posted on the internet no later than 4 minutes after the rumor was posted here, which means that it was public knowledge (and announced on MSG network, though hadn't been written and published) almost simultaneous to tthe time the rumor was posted here. No offense, but is that really 'inside' information these days?
I saw the original too and had a what-is-your-problem post ready to go before I saw your edit. What I don't understand is why Clutch has to remind you guys every time RRNYC posts that he's real. The urge to run off insiders on this board blows my mind. Thanks to Clutch for being the voice of reason (again).
i would actually like randolph on the team because it makes our inside-out plan that much stronger. With a PF that can score even more consistently that Mo, no one would even think to double Yao. Randolph is also the strong rebounder that we need and can easily be taught to be an enforcer. Yes, he does lack the defense and he can't block that well, BUT he is still an upgrade over moT in terms of scoring and rebounding. Some cant understand why the blazers want to drop him, but with the arrival of shareef, randolph has suddenly become expendable.
I don't know where you read an urge to run off insiders on the board. I can't find it, but I did remind some people who were telling Rocket Rich off in one of his previous threads that it seemed to me that he definitely had insider info and was credible. Now, does that mean it sounds likely that a fantasy trade that has been made up by an ESPN columnist suddenly comes true? I just did not think so. Also, I don't think that because someone has access to some inside source, they need to rub it in people's faces if something they mentioned as probable (JVG not getting along with Francis) happens later - that is probably another reason why I was critical of RRNYC's post. I don't recall Popeye ever "rubbing it in" after one of his predictions came true. That's all. Besides, you make it sound like I insulted the guy before the edit, which I did not. I very much appreciate info from insiders, it's exciting and interesting.
Det: If I was RICH and took all the stupid heckling from so many here (yourself included) every time I tried to share info, I'd say I told you so too. The other reasons for skepticism in this case are fine, but the fact that people are consistently, and rabidly, skeptical every single time he posts are reflections on you guys' credibility, not his.
Please provide some links where I stupidly heckled RRNYC every time he tried to share info. This is simply not true. You must be confusing me with someone.
That was all I had said in my post before I edited it. I edited it, though, because it could sound as if I was saying RRNYC was lying, which I did not mean to. I just pointed out that the Moochie trade was official in the media only minutes after RRNYC posted it.
Jackie: I don't like to revise my posts after someone else posts, so I won't. But if you weren't one of the ones constantly daring RRNYC to prove himself, my apologies. I thought you were and your posts in this thread were consistent with that. And popeye and Doc Rocket each expressed occasional annoyance at having to prove themselves to a bunch of fanboys every time they posted, if I remember it right.
