I think it is a good trade for everyone. The team becomes YAO's team...he is ready, and Steve gets more freedom in Portland....he needs it. It is clear that YAO has a better chance of leading this team, and JVG will make it happen. Steve needs to be somewhere where the light is shining on him...ala Iverson.....he will have a good career with no Bling bling for the Ring ring, on the fing fing.... Yao...he will have plenty of finger adornments. DD
Hopefully the trade doesn't happen. That's how I feel now. At the end of this season I may feel differently, but I would definitely like to see this team make the push for the whole season.
Very well said. I dont think the Rockets should get rid of Francis, at least not yet. I wanna see how the rest of the season turns out with what we have.
It wouldn't be the worst trade ever... We'd get a solid PG and potential All-Star PF plus bench depth. But SF can be so damn good some nights it's scary (like tonight!!) I've got the feeling that him being traded would be the motivation for him to raise his game another level.
The thing about that is with all the possibilites with the Griffin propositions last year, who knows what we cant get later on.
Compared to the current Blazers crop, yes Francis is a great citizen. Compared to the rest of the NBA, he's par for the course. I'm not talking about off-field incidences. I'm tlaking about coachability.
I just don't see how some of the numbers work without some major tweaking. For starters: Francis @ BYC + Pike = $7.5m outgoing Randolph + Patterson + Woods + Snow = $16.4m incoming TE = $6.99m The 4 incoming contracts outstrip the TE so it does not work with these components. To work contract wise, you have to subtract Qyntel Woods and add Nachbar or Padgett or Agriff. And we've used almost the entire TE. And then... Stoudamire makes ~$10m more than Eric Snow. Glenn Robinson (1 more full season @ $12m) balances this out capwise but is Stoudamire worth both Snow and Robinson? Further... Dale Davis makes $4.6m more than Snow. He's in the last year of his contract so he may be re-signed to a cheaper deal for 2004 on. With the additions of SAR and Theo, the Blazers have only the MLE for 2004-05. To obtain Davis, $4.6m of the following small salaries are needed...but who plays PG? Aaron McKie......$5.0m Kenny Thomas..$4.3m Derrick Coleman...$4.0m Marc Jackson.......$3.9m Greg Buckner.......$2.6m Samuel Dalembert... $0.9m
Dude, I was just informing people that this trade had already been discussed. chill out. And I posted it before you responded to Sir Jackie Chiles. So Rocket Rich can give some info out but I can't.
I'm the worst at that one....I just can't seem to break myself of it. Still.....my signature brings up the one that bothers me the most around here.
Damn TS, you beat me to it.. that was EXACTLY what I was thinking.. Randolph sounds like MoT version 2.0.. Given JVG's decision to continually start Cato over MoT (presumably for defensive purposes, given MoT's lack of physical defensive prowess), then I do not see how Randolph's stats in Houston would be much different from Taylor's, if Randolph only gets to take as many shots as MoT takes. Randolph gets 18 shots a game??? Hell, Yao only averages 11 ! As well as MoT has been shooting this year, heck, if MoT averaged 18 shots a game, I would bet you good money that he would be averaging more points than Zach. Rebounds? Well, ZR does get more boards than Mo. However, you would be giving up 6 boards a night in Stevie, so that would actually be a negative move, since there is no way ZR gets enough minutes behind Cato in JVG's 'defense first' system to compensate for both Steve's AND Mo's boards. And I have not watched ZR play much, but does he take about 2 hard charges every game? THIS WOULD BE A (BILL WALTON VOICE:ON) TERRRRRRIBLE TRADE FOR HOUSTON!! Let's all just wait for the offseason, k?
Wow, what a typical response from the most oppressed poster on the board. Poor you. I said exactly what I meant. It was no "info" post... it was a childish reaction and I already explained why it was "discussed".
And if I said something to insult you, but made sure to combine that with news that Peter Vecsey is mentioning this trade in a column this morning, are you not allowed to react? Because if you do, I'm sure I'll just respond with "chill out" and "I guess I can't give info like Rocket Rich".
Okay, Clutch, if you feel I was insultig that's fine. I guess the why would Portland give up Randolph comment was a bit much for you. I just don't see Portland giving up a potential star who's still under a rookie contract. But I didn't mean it to be insulting, just discussing the trade.
Clutch, do you have a link to the Vecsey column? i've searched the post site but can't find it. sorry if you already provided the link, i read the whole thread but must've missed your original post somehow.
