That site is just a cheat sheet. Those videos are just highlights. They're better than just plain numbers, but still only good for bringing up a point (be it positive or negative), things that might skipped through watching entire tape. On its own, context of the game and therefore moment is still lost. If a talent identifier/scout is trusted enough, management would go with that person's opinion, even if stats suggest otherwise. The type of data you're arguing validity for is a luxury not a necessity. I'm not going to continue this debate. We would only disagree endlessly.
This will be Jeff Van Gundy's last season with the Rockets. With CD gone, JVG'll have to be responsible for the dumb decisions that this orgnization have made in the last few years.
OMG THAT clip WAS AMAZING!!! His shooting, his ball handleing, his leaping. That guy could get 10 and 5 on accident. There has to be a way we can package gay and swift to jersey for at LEAST Richard Jefferson. After seeing that footage i dont know if even Jr is enough.
I don't know where to write this, but don't you think that the Rockets silence is attributed to something. They are not saying a word and there is no way they can be that silent for two weeks. Could we possibly be waiting till July 1st to contact some players on Memphis("officially") such as Bobby Jackson and maybe if Jackson or Chucky Atkins, even Lorenzen Wright are cool with it(previous negotiations may have happened although illegal) then we do a sign and trade. If they don't then Memphis still has to throw in something because the salaries still don't match if you consider Gay's salary at 8 will be about 1.8 million or more. Maybe if their free agents decline the deal then we will be ok with just taking Dahntay Jones or Hakim Warick. We could give them Sura's expiring contract as well if Bobby Jackson is cool with the trade. This is the only explanation I have for them being so silent and possibly being fined for "1 million dollars for talking" while Jerry West is talking it up all over the place.
Wow, that is one hell of a highlight reel. It's worth trying to do something to make sure he stays in Houston. Rockets fans, unite.
Only problem is you can probably create a highlight reel like that for stro in college or even in the nba. Where is the clip of Gay fading from games and disapperaing for long periods of time. Like I said before, 7 teams passed on him even though many claimed he had 1st or 2nd pick talent. Something about him had to worry some GMs other then CD.
its not even really the dunks that imprresed me it was his shot creation. he was able to fade away or drive down the lane through traffic. what i liked the most was he was sacraficing his body. I saw alot of paul pierce and shawn marion in him. People questioned paul pierce's heart and his drive and look how he turned out.
so that validates this move huh??? A player falling a couple of picks justifies trading him away for a player with significantly less value??? How many teams passed on Tracy McGrady? Kobe Bryant? Amare Stoudemire? Paul Pierce? Just admit that reguardless of what you think of Gay as a player...picking him 8th and then trading him away for a role player is stupid and will never be justified. A damn shame that player who hasn't done anything to Houston will have a bunch lame fans hoping he fails just so their team wont look stupid.
I hope gay becomes a super star and touches us every time he plays us , toronto and all the other teams that passed on him. He is only 19 and only going to get smarter, stronger and more consistent. uconn has yet to have a first round flop yet. Even Caron butler is a solid nba player even though he may not have yet lived up to the super star potential people thought he had.
Man that was some awesome highlight there. I have no idea that he was that ATHLETIC. With the right coaching that kid will dominate in a few years. Battier for Swift and him, Just wasted. I don't rememberEddie Griffith doing any of the stuff that Gay show he could do on that video clips. I remember Eddioe Griffith basically shooting 3 's when he was here. But this guy, he look like Amare Stoudemire with his explosiveness. I think this is a huge mistake that Rocket make. Hopefully , I am wrong but man I don't think the Rocket is making the right decision this time.
I just found out that: For superstars that got drafted in their teenages, only Magic Johnson and LBJ became a star in their first year, and Amare in his 2nd year. It took 3 or 4 yearrs for Kobe, Tmac, KG and Oneal etc to develop into real stars. And we're talking about teenagers that have turned into stars, not those who never have. It's safe to assume Gay need at least 3 yearrs to develop, when Yao will turn 29 and Tmac 30. Then what will the Rockets do? Yao n Tmac will take at least half of the team's salary, and Gay will need an extension. So this trade might actually make sense 'coz we want win now. Grizz's situation is very different from Rockets. After Gasol got schooled by Dirk in the first round, West must have realized this team need star or superstar talent. Gasol is solid by he's not the type of player can carry the team like other superstars do. That's why they don't mind taking risk and potential in Gay, by giving up the solid Battier and taking back what they didn't really want in Swift. This team isn't going anywhere w/ minor changes in roster, so high risk high rewarding fits their plan. Bottom line is, they can wait. But Rockets can't wait, they need to win now, otherwise Yao and Tmac's talents will be wasted. So I guess both teams have done the right things in this Gay trade after all.
I just found out that: The chances of a Top 10 prospect with athleticism and a decent shot can replicate Battier's stats from last year.
Gay is potential, Battier is a proven player. He played well in a very deep team, I actually expect his number to much higher than his Memphis days, since he will start and get bulk of the minutes. As poorly as Swift looked last year, losing him sucks. Now we're going to see Yao get dunked on twice a year by swift.
I find it somewhat suspicious that almost every one of these new rookie posters with 1 post is strongly in favor of the trade. Coupled with the fact that the Rockets religiously read this board...
