could we change our minds and get out of this trade since it hasn't and won't be official til july 12th or so...???? protest letter time guys!
Why don't you buy it? Uconn's style of play and coach Calhoun has had a history of developing NBA ready players. Duke on the other hand has had a more spotty record.
mcgrady, u got to know about1-10% of clutchfans knows what they are talking about . half of these people just google up stats or watch sportscenter. so dont worry, just listen to people with great nba knowledge... like myself!
"He's athletic," Dawson said. "He's got a lot to learn. Just about everybody that comes out early — he's only 19 years old — has a lot to learn." When I read this quote about Gay by CD, I sense a negativity. To me, having a lot to learn is in fact positive. Would you rather have a person who already formed bad habits and need to correct them or somebody with talent and raw? I would pick the one with potential and talent. It is much easier to mold a person at early stage as long as he is talented and motivated. I know the knock on Gay is that he is 'unfocused'. But for god sake he is only 19yrs old and the sky is limit. His college coach, a hall of fame, only has nice things to say about him. Some people also argue that the winning is now given the situation with T-Mac and Yao since Battier is known product. Hello, but you never if Battier will form necessary chemistry with Yao and T-Mac. It is also a risk. I would rather have a youngster with rokie contract than stuck on somebody untradable if things do not work out. Simply put, I absoultely hate the short-sightness of Rockets managerment.
My post clearly was talking about lottery picks from Uconn. El Amin was a 2nd round Pick. Uconn has never had a lottery pick that did not play well in the NBA: Charlie Villanueva Emeka Okafor Ben Gordon Caron Butler Rip Hamilton Ray Allen Donyell Marshall
I'm sure someone's already said this, but as my first post on this board, I'd would just like to say: I wanted to have Gay, Head, on this team. T T.
BTW, I follow college basketball a lot. I have watched a quite a few UCon's game. He may be tentative sometimes. But all the tools are there for him to succeed in NBA. He is athelic, got great mid-long range shot, good defender (if taught right can be a elite defender), can play post-up, have decent handle that can be improved if working hard, can play 2, 3, and 4. He is simply one of a few all-round play in the draft beside Roy. Let me put this. He is easily THE best talented college player in this year draft. Mark my words. He will be a all-star. From day 1, when all the talks is to get Roy, I want him be selected by Rockets. I never dream it would come true given Rockets only select at #8. Only turns out my dream is crushed instantly. Absolutely hate it.
he wasn't a lottery pick...he was a 2nd round pick...you guys can try to rationalize and justify this trade anyway you want, but it still remains that no lottery pick out of UConn has ever flopped
Perhaps a poor choice of words, I meant that he is a "blue collar" kind of player, meat and potatos, vanilla, solid but nothing really special.
You are so wrong. I wonder if you have looked at those picks carefully from the 8th to the 10th picks. As a matter of fact, lots of players picked from 8th to the 10th are better than Battier.
Although Battier is not a journey man yet, he might become one as CD soon finds out that he made a mistake in bringing in Battier. Alas, now they have 2 untradable contracts in Battier and J. Howard.
battier is a solid defender and hits open shots. less of a risk then gay. trading stro also creates more cap space for free agency. bonzi wells, mike james, maybe even peja.
Gay could be better than Battier in the second half of the upcoming season. If that happens, I hope Les could sell the team.
Battier makes the same amount as Stro. His contract is actually longer and will tie our hands up in the long run when he is a 33/34 year old who is even slower and less athletic as he is now (which is below average at the wing position).
I would be less pissed about giving up Gay if we got more in return. We are giving up 2 freakin' guys for one average one.
J Howard (after Juwan tanks Team) draft express: Orlando: Dwight Howard Denver: Carmelo Anthony Houston: Rudy Gay..traded for Battier Lets not forget this memorable Juwan draft momment: *Washington forfeited its 1st round pick as compensation for re-signing free-agent Juwan Howard in 1996. ($110+ mill contract) Lets see what happened in 1997: 1. San Antonio Tim Duncan
