I don't know what is worse. The Texans taking mario williams over bush or the rockets trading Gay for an average player like Battier. We had the chance in both drafts to get the most explosive player and we did not get either.
Even when the Rockets won the two championshiops a decade ago...respect was an issue. HOW THE HELL DO THEY EXPECT ANYBODY TO RESPECT THIS JOKE OF AN ORGANIZATION? I THOUGHT CASSERLY LEFT HOUSTON?
Everyone including the owner should be fired. I wish you could fire the owner. Vote with your feet people. Stay away from the games until Van Gundy and company are fired.
That seals it. The Rockets are perfectly content with being mediocre. Shane Battier is a nice player, but he's no more than bench fodder, and the Rockets have plenty of that. Positives/Negatives of the trade. Positives: You get a proven veteran who's motivation to play isn't questionable. A solid defender with a solid jumpshot. Someone who is also a smart passer, though not very creative. Also JVG doesn't have the reputation for being a good motivator or teacher towards rookies. Gay's motivation is question mark, so just imagine how much his interests would dwindle under JVG leadership. Face it. JVG is a better coach under proven veterans. Negatives: Lost arguably the most talented player in entire draft. A lengthy versatile player, who would almost immediately become the third scoring option for this team. A third scoring option that this team so desperately needed. His rep while playing in college was deferring to his teammates too much. Frankly thats perfect. T-Mac and Yao would be great players to defer to. He provided youth, athleticism, and a smooth shot. All in all I'm dissapointed with this trade. Getting Battier doesn't make the Rox much better if at all. Battier has suffered injuries in the past, and is pretty slow footed. His scoring is a plus, but he'll never be a guy that will go off and drop 30 for you on any given night. Frankly I'd be surprised if Battier drops more than 20 any more than a couple of times next season. So basically all he translates into is another player that'll come off the bench and maybe play 15 to 20 minutes every night. Is it really worth trading the most talented player in the draft with size, and 7'3 wingspan for someone like that? There better be a good package deal for the Rockets sometime this offseason or I'm not wasting money for the NBA season package next season.
Didn't we get Stro from these Turkeys and look how that turned out .. . funkin JVG and his fnk defense all the feen time! Wanna get burned part deux . . . it just happened. Incompentent baastardssss!!!
the Rockets sent Gay and forward Stromile Swift, their primary free agent signing last summer, to Memphis to pick up forward Shane Battier.
Tell me that this is still in a works, because i'am pissed to let this guy Rudy to go to Memphis for Battier, coz he still has 6 Mil/year for 4 years left on his conract. Damn CD you really need to retire alright!
This trade makes absolutely no sense whatsoever. I have lost all faith in this team's management. You don't trade away the best player in the draft for Shane Battier. You just don't.
I like the trade, I want to win next year or the year after next I won't want to wait for Gay to develop. If we can get either batier or mike miller that would be awesome
For much of the season Gay was the consensus number one pick. Why? The guy has talent, plain and simple. He also has huge potential. To give him up for an average role player is something that I cannot understand.
Maybe we will get their 24th pick for taking on so much salary. They haven't officially announced the trade yet so maybe it will happen when pick 24 happens.
This is an OUTRAGE. We suffer through that horrible season and all we have to show for it from the draft is Shane Battier? Were not Dennis Lindsey and Daryl Morey on the sports talk circuit this week telling us that significantly above-average players are what you need to go deep into the playoffs? We just got a player who is generously described as being a MEDIOCRE NBA player. He averaged 10ppg in 35mpg on a mediocre team. He's not even a good value with his large, long contract. This is a devastating blunder by our front office. This move generates no excitement as Battier has no upside and is a proven mediocre player. When you are picking at the #8 slot, you at least want to get a player that has the potential to become a 2nd or 3rd option on a playoff team. Battier is not in that league. Dirk absolutely owned him in the playoffs to boot. OUTRAGED
How can this happen???? What is going on in the organization??? Trading a surefire future superstar for an aging, unathletic player within our division is the most unpredicted move the Rockets could have possibly made. But yet they did it. Surely this is more to this than what is being reported????
