dude, i was pissed when i came home last night to this. but then after really sitting down and thinking about it and our other options available via FA. I think this is a solid deal. Battier is only 26-27?. I think he's gonna put up some good numbers and be our dead-eye 3pt shooter we've been needing for so long. We pick up Wilcox via FA and maybe a third player/TE from the trade. If we can get Mike me james, we have soething brewing here...
even if you didnt think gay would pan out, his worth on draft day was still a lot higher than shane battier. We could have done better.
exactly. I'm happy with the trade and even more excited to see what other moves we're gonna make. Good riddance to the r****d "im lost, but i can dunk" swift.
i don't think anyone's upset with getting battier, in and of itself. it's that you gave up stro and the #8 pick for him. and the guy who fell to #8 was a guy some were suggesting should go #1. and you didn't even get another draft pick thrown in. or anything else. to me that is far too much to pay for shane battier, as much as i like shane battier.
What $4.2M TE is this referring to? Does this not play out as a Battier-Swift salary match, with the rookie's salary not counting. Do you know how the deal is structured? If someone used a TE, maybe there's more to come?
hakim warrik better be envolved in this or we are totally geting hosed. I mean damn we would be better off tradeing gay and swift straight up for richard jefferson. rj is better then shane in every way.
No, but this isn't college. I really don't care. It all boils down to hype and guess work most of the time. I'm sick of people freaking out. Nobody really knows anything about hows drafts will pan out. Look at Rodney McCray over Drexler. We know who we got now. I think we can win with him.
i personally think we did give a bit too much. I was really pissed because initially i thought it was just gay for shane striaght up. Then i hear about swift. But hey (maybe it was for cap clearing reasons), i dunno. Or maybe it was just clearing house of a clueless, limitless in potential, but no brain player. Like I said before, this deal isn't finalized until the 1st of july. Memphis does not want Swift. There is a third team involved and we're either getting a backup player or part of their TE. point being. we got a solid starter (defends very well, dead eye 3pt shooter, good character, high bball iq). Like everyone else i wish CD/JVG would have atleast asked for their 2nd rounder. But again, there is another team involved in this so we'll have to wait n' see if and when we get that 3rd player/TE
I don't get this "CD didn't have a choice, because JVG isn't going to play Gay even if he keeps him" excuse. JVG can offer his professional advices, and I value that, but the boss has to make the decision. If JVG refuses to play Gay without a reason, then he's gone. Besides, I don't believe JVG will not play Gay, if he works hard. He already has talent. This whole JVG won't play young players is just nonsense, he never really had any talented young guys to start with. ARe you guys saying that JVG wouldn't have played Yao in the beginning either, or would just trade him away at draft day? As for rookies making mistakes, I don't think Gay will make more mistakes than Head does. The talent discrapancy is huge. They talked about it whole year, that we need athleticism, talent, and youth. As we just witnessed in this year's playoffs, how those 3 things win your games, series. Now, after all those lip services, we just traded all those 3 things together away, to get a solid role player and nice guy?!!!! Rockets front office is the worst, worse than the Raptors. First Horry and Sam, then EG, let's forget all those stupid long contracts, and now this?!!!! Is it a crime to be a Rockets fan?
wait, what? you can't throw out a guy's college career as meaningless. nba staffs spend tons of money, time and resources scouting these guys. how they play in college games is absolutely a factor. it's idiotic to suggest otherwise. i agree with you that there are no sure things. so you weigh upside vs. what you know of other players who are in the league. we know battier is a role player. we just traded a guy with easy top 10 draft talent and stro for that role player. nothing else. no other draft pick. nothing. straight up. there is no way you can convince me we got value. i think battier is a good player. i think he can be a good player here. but you didn't need to give up THAT MUCH to get a guy like that.
Even if Rudy Gay does turn out to be a good player, I think Battier can fill holes for us right now. He is a known commodity rather than an unknown. If we want to win with Tmac, I think we need to do it sooner rather than later. He isn't getting any younger and his back isn't getting any better. I don't remember the exact numbers, but the combo of Yao and Tmac was killer last year. We have now added a guy that is proven to be an efficient scorer, a good defender, and a hard worker. I just hope we can add someone with some fire.
but at this point there's no indication that anything else is coming. why does a 3rd team have to be involved in this deal? why can't memphis just ship stro out. the only reason you feel that way is because you can't believe it either!!! like me and RM95 last night looking at each other with confused looks going, "that can't be it, right??? there has to be more coming our way...right??" if there's some other part to this trade i'm unaware of right now, i'll amend my answer based on what it is. but as of now...going only on what we know has been reported...this deal stinks.
Max is dead on with his last 2 posts. Battier may be the better fit for the Rockets compared to Gay but we didn't get nearly enough out of the Grizzlies for landing a talent like Rudy. That is what is absolutely moronic about this deal and that doesn't even include that we got rid of Swift instead of Howard. Oh and that ALSO doesn't include the incredibly high ceiling that Gay has. If this deal goes down, it is going to be very HARD for me to remain a Rocket fan.
ok. subconciously IM WANTING A THRID TEAM. who knows maybe we'll end up getting part of memphis' TE. anyways, im ready to move on and look at the FA market. Wilcox can be had for relativly cheap (good shot blocker/defender/rebounder) maybe add some depth, kareem rush? or maybe add mr. me james. i love your 2nd round pick.
Honestly guys, would you have traded #8(Rudy Gay out of all people, and Swift) for Battier before the draft? Stop making yourself feel good and try to justify how Battier is great for this team. Our team with Gay and Swift is 10 times better than one we have right now.
Yea I was disgusted...I didn't follow the selections so much, but I knew Roy or Gay was great selections...I especially thought Gay had that kind of potential....It made sense, but someone in chat said something along the lines of :I can't help but feel I'm about to be punched in the stomach with what the Rockets are going to do with the pick,...I was afraid of that and sure enough... To me it just doesn't make sense...I left chat not feeling great about it at all...
