That one was different - Kobe forced Charlottes hands then - Charlote almost had no choice. I must confess, I am mighty depressed. We had a choice. My only hope now is that something goes wrong with the deal. If this deal stands, I will say now that I hate CD, JVG and Morey.
If this is true than I say to LES,,, YOU are not building a Championship team! If this is the best that the Front office can give you then OUT OUT OUT OUT with CD, JVG and Morey because they will ruin the ROCKETS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Battier is not a step forward, he is not athletic and certainly is not the third scorer that we have been expecting!!!!!!!!!! You cant trust the Grizz, look what they sent us in the name of Stromile Swift.
I guess it is official http://www.chron.com/disp/story.mpl/sports/4010820.html "The Rockets got the break they wanted in the NBA draft on Wednesday and then used it to land a player who was on no one's draft list. With Connecticut forward Rudy Gay, who was considered a possibility with the No. 1 pick, sliding to the Rockets at No. 8, the Rockets worked a deal with the Grizzlies to send Gay's rights to Memphis for forward Shane Battier. Battier, a 6-8, 210-pound small forward from Duke, has averaged 10.5 points and 4.8 rebounds in his five-year career. He is considered among the league's top defensive players, and he also is a solid catch-and-shoot option, who made 48.8 percent of his shots and 39.4 percent of his 3-pointers last season. By opting for Battier over the vast, if unpredictable, potential of Gay, the Rockets indicated their preference for acquiring immediate help. Because of NBA rules, the team is not permitted to finalize or discuss deals until July 12. Brandon Roy, the Washington shooting guard, appeared to be the ideal fit for the Rockets and lasted to within a few spots of their No. 8 pick before the Minnesota Timberwolves picked him at No. 6. The Portland Trail Blazers gave up point guard Sebastian Telfair to Boston for the No. 7 pick and appeared to be targeting Roy. They took Villanova guard Randy Foye, a combination shooting/point guard, leaving Gay available to the Rockets. The top of the draft offered few surprises. Andrea Bargnani, the 6-11 forward from Rome and Italian league power Benetton Treviso went first to the Toronto Raptors. The Chicago Bulls, who coveted Tyrus Thomas, switched draft positions with the Trail Blazers, and then took Thomas at No. 4, after the Trail Blazers grabbed LaMarcus Aldridge and the Charlotte Bobcats took NCAA scoring champion Adam Morrison of Gonzaga. As expected, the Atlanta Hawks took Duke power forward Shelden Williams with the fifth pick."
If Rockets trade Rudy Gay for Shane battier...... I have this to say for all you JVG supporters.... SUCK IT!!!!!!!!!!!!! First JVG refuses to tank which would have given us the chance to get brandon Roy. And then when we arelucky enough to have Rudy fall into our laps,he trades him for Shane battier??! Hello?!?! Shane battier is a good missing piece for a near complete contending team. We have too many holes!! The longer JVG stays in Houston, the morehe keeps screwing the Rockets. Yeay!!!!
OMG I've never been soo happy then soo disappointed within 5 minutes from each other. How the F@#$ did they just do that. Battier i see fits the team with tough D and good three pointer, but he's not anywhere near Rudy Gay. Gay is athletic, has a sweet stroke and has all the tools to be great. A combo of him and TMAC would have been just deadly. Can't believe this is happening. Houston GMS are completely dumb. Mario Williams, Shane Battier.
When Randy Foye went #7, I was so ecstatic ... yelling, jumping up and down, etc. etc. If this deal is Battier for Rudy Gay alone, I'm still floored... our organization ... man, I don't know what is going through their heads. Shane Battier is a GOOD player... but the upside of a Rudy Gay is tremendous. I still feel like someone ran me over with a pickup.
JVG and CD..... If you are working a deal with Jerry West and he is ok with it, you are getting hosed. Who is the better evaluator of talent? Jerry or JVG/CD?!?! HAHA!! Are you kidding me!??!
The player that makes most sense would be us getting rid of Juwan...wait and see what else we hear on this.
Were's Aelliot and GATER? How do we trade for a player making $4.9 million with a $4.2 million trade exception? Does the 25% rule apply? If the deal can't be done until July 12th, we are in fact trading for a $5.4 million salary!!!!
I agree that Battier is a solid player to have...but he is definitely NOT worth the 8th pick. This is ridiculous! First Texans, now Rockets. I agree with the poster that thinks this is "stat boy move" as well. Battier = 8 does not add up! somebody tell stat boy that
they let charlie casserly in the draft room. no other way to put it the rockets just made a huge mistake. man its tuff to be a houston sports fan sometimes
if indeed this is not the whole deal, maybe there is cash or their 24th pick, who can we take with the 24? marcus williams gonna be around that late? novak?
Remwmber that JVG wont coach or play young players, unless he is forced to. This trade smacks of JVG and he is ruining the rockets
Exactly. We must be patient and wait for the final details. It's very obvious this isn't just a straight up trade for those two. EVERYBODY TAKE A CHILL PILL!!
Obviously there has got to be more to this deal.....For the time now I'm feeling the same as when we took Rodney over Clyde.
