what i dont get is, this trade seems very lopsided towards memphis, if its gay+swift for battier, we are pretty much giving up 2 young guys for 1 guy whos young, as good a defender battier is, his 10 ppg wont strike fear into opposition teams, he is not a legit 3rd option, if tmac or yao goes down next year we are screwed, unless theres something bigger on the horizon, the only positives I can see coming with battier is, he's a good defender, he will know his place and role in the team. But still we are giving up to much for a role player

How are we clearing up cap space? Battier and Stro have nearly identical salaries so how does that clear it up?

it's nothing official so i'll keep hope till july 12th... but if it's really only gay+swift for battier, we got raped ... we could have so much better for gay and swift ... gay for battier + 24th would have make more sense ... and i still cant believe we didnt manage to grab one of the suns' first rounder ... they just gave'em up :(

This proves that the management is extremely short-sighted. By trading away Gay and SS, Rox has no assets again in trades. If Battier does not work out, there is nobody to trade. What a blow.

Basically, Rox traded fast for slow, big for small, and how do you know Gay can't contribute right now? Everybody says rookies do not contribute right away, well L. James, Wade contributed right away!

    I agree.
Also, we're good enough to make the playoffs for years to come, but not good enough to contend. Considering that when is the next time we'll have a chance to land arguably the most talented guy in the draft?

There's also a bad trend that when guys come to the Rox their numbers and stats go down in addition to their trade value. I can realistically see Battier's 10/5 going down.

I don't "know". You can never know for certain how a player will pan out. Hence the word "probably".

Apparently, if the Blazers had drafted Gay initially, the Rockets were planning on taking Foye and sending him to Minnesota for Brandon Roy. Apparently the Blazers figured this out, and decided to rain on our parade. Hence, the Battier move as a fallback.

But clearly Roy was our guy.

This is the stupidest trade that I can think of recently.

I thought I might feel better about this in the morning, but I still feel extremely bitter.

Why didn't Houston just swap picks with Atlanta?

True, but Gay is from UConn, one of the best college teams that are loaded on other positions. There is a reason his stats do not look great. I feel more comfortable keeping a UConn player than a duke player based on their performance in the NBA

Anyone remember that one scene in Celtic pride with Damon Wayans as a basketball star... where he makes one of the kidnappers, (Dan Akroyd) envision himself as the b**** of his would be partner in crime.. wearing high heels, merrily doing as he's told while getting slapped on the ass..?

CD= Dan Akroyd in that scene, getting slapped on the ass by Jerry West.

We need to trade CD, Morey and JVG for Jerry West! We have been dry humped so many times on draft day now that I just can't take it any more! Passing on Rudy Gay at #8 is the dumbest move of all times for the Rockets.

CD just made Charlie Casserly look like Einstein. We just took out a reverse mortgage on any future the Rockets will ever have at a time when the Western Conference is tougher than ever. I flat out don't understand why we turned our back on the greatest draft gift we ever received just so we can get eliminated in the first round of the playoffs like Battier has done every year of his career. We could have done that with Gay and still had a future. CD SUX!!!
