can't we just like put our cloths back on, look at battier, realize that we just made a huge public mistake, recind the trade, and get like rashard lewis or something? c'mon. rediculous. we have 2 weeks to send 1,000,000 e-mails.
I wonder what TMac is thinking? "Gay for Battier??.........Gay and STROMILE for Battier!?!? Lemme call up CD and change his mind" At least I hope that is what he is saying...
Okay let's see we need to make some room here....... Let's move Clyde Drexler over a little and Rashard Lewis is going to have to slide over some.....there we go.....good Rudy Gay right in the middle here on the draft wall of shame..... I haven't felt like this since the Rashard Lewis F**k up and we now how that turned out. Where are Turckan, Drew, and Dickerson these days? There was no exscuse then and there's none now. I am completely convinced NBA GMs have no more idea of how to build a team then an average fan.
A couple of weeks ago JVG was on the Sports Radio 610 and told us that he was buying 30 (50..can't remember the number) season tickets and giving them out to the rowdiest fans. I guess the Rockets PR department wanted to pretend that didn't happen so they could promote a surprise that we already knew about.
Not gonna happen while JVG is our coach. He's the reason why we have one of the oldest teams in the league.
I just found another reason to get excited about next season, when we manage to squeeze into the playoffs facing Memphis and have Gay drop 30 a night on us. Oh and maybe Battier can be a nice background in a Gay poster. And the face on JVG or CD's face is gonna be priceless.
I think the trade was actually good....let me tell you....rudy gay was the pre-season player of the year and the pre-season number one draft pick according to most experts and many mock drafts according to sites like nbadraft.net...but with all of that hype, he underperformed with great players around him like marcus williams, josh boone, and Hilton Armstrong (btw all were first round picks this year).....even his own coach, the legendary Jim Calhoun said he questioned Gay's work ethic.....sounds a little bit like Stromile Swift doesnt it......thats why were packaging him in the deal also....so why would we want to keep the both of them.....but with shane battier, you know what youre getting....you get a young guy who has experience and is known as one of the leagues best defenders....but you also get a guy who fits exactly what the rockets needed.....a shooter that can play small forward or power forward.....when he plays small forward, you can have him come in and give rest for mcgrady or van gundy can move mcgrady to the 2 spot, his natural position.....although he is only 6'8'' he can play power forward and bang in the paint with the big guys....also, he is a viable third scoring threat behind ming and mcgrady....he averaged 10.5 points and almost 5 rebounds a game.....plus he brings a toughness about him swift never brought and more than likely gay will never bring....
Yes,Stro.could sign big contract which he refused one year ago.Now we send him back with lower price together with a gift Gay.
I just can't believe it !!! Rudy Gay for Shanie Battier is good, but plus Swift? Well, who's ready for C/PF?
While adding Swift was too much, I agree in concept with the deal. The Rockets wanted Roy, a player who could contribute NOW. So it was either Roy or bust. Once Minnesota drafted Roy, they did right by looking for a veteran who could contribute now. This team's window of opportunity to win a title is 3-4 years, which is how long it would have took for Gay to adapt to the NBA game. Battier helps NOW while giving us a solid perimeter defender and a guy with length who is smart and can make shots. From a basketball standpoint, this makes sense. Too many people get engaged in dunks and high-flying and neglect attributes such as poor shooting, poor desire and poor basketball IQ--all of which Gay is guilty of.
on top of my last post.....the trade makes sense money wise so we can free up space and have more money to spend in the free agent market......we are unloading swift's large contract, but also we dont have to sign a three year multimillion dollar contract with a rookie.....although battier has five years and 32 million left on his contract, the grizzlies are going to pay most of it....this way we save money and now we can go after players like Vladimir Radmanovic, Tim Thomas, Mike James, Drew Gooden, Matt Harpring, or Ronald Murray.....
But he can publicly raise hell, just like he did in Orlando, which got him traded to the Rockets. Rockets fans probably forgot about that part of the trade.
Yeah, but he is the franchise player who had a hang in getting Houston to sign Stromile last year (the first off-season year he had with us)
