I still think that a third team is involved somehow. First off, the Grizz went out of their way to trade for Alexander Johnson, who I thought the Rockets liked. Secondly, there is no way that the Grizz keep Warrick, Gay, Swift, and Johnson. The first three are all similar players at this point. Only one of them can dunk the ball at a time.
I'm OK with this trade if management truly believes the addition of Battier will secure a championship. A healthy Yao and T-Mac is expected to make the playoffs without Battier. With Battier anything less than a championship and the trade is a failure.
Can someone do the salary cap side of the deal to see if the numbers match up? That would teel us if something is missing, no?
Want to play gay? Re-Release the Breakfast with coach article. and don't take it down till they won't trade Gay.. LOL.. Doubt that would do anything but hey worth a shot?
I didn't read every post in this thread so sorry if someone else have mentioned this earlier... I think our trade with Memphis wasn't Gay + Swift but was our "8th pick" + Swift. Is it possible that the trade was already made before we picked Gay? So look back then, it was possible that Rockets management didn't expect too much on this pick hence they initially thought the deal, 8th pick + Swift for Battier was not a bad idea so they did it. They just didn't expect that they could get player like Gay at their 8th pick. Memphis just too lucky to have Gay slipped into our 8th pick and gained benefit from this trade. I know little about these trade and draft stuff. Just my random thoughts here.
I just have 1 question...ok make that 2! Can Battier create his own shot or does he feed off the work of other players? How do we stand if (when?) Tmac's back breaks again?
It matches. Check the other posts on the topic. Stro= $5MM Battier = $4.9MM (after Jul 12 - salary drops off due to BYC rule) Gay is a rookie and doesn't count.
I read somewhere that this deal was proposed by West on the condition that Gay was available. So no, the trade was not made before we picked Gay.
You obviously did not watch last year's playoffs series between the Suns and Griz. Go to ESPN and check the coparism meter to see if Shane has ever been able to contain those players of teams you just named. This deal is mind boggling. At worst, Gay would be a 10 and 5 guy for his career with the same defensive ability like Shane. We could have used our trade exception for a guard like Pietrus who is just as much a great person and better defensively. We could have bought one of the picks from Phoenix as well. Portland was making deals with everybody. And this is all we could come up with. This is coming from someone who loves Shane's game. Gay for Shane and Lowry is still a horrible trade.
I read a post on the Grizzlies forum stating that Battier could NOT create his own shot, thus they were happy to get Gay who has that potential. But with Yao and TMac, the only time that I can forsee Battier having to create his own shot would be if the shot clock was under 3 seconds and he was stuck with the ball. IMO he can easily avg 12 points a game for us if he can hit open 3's and mid-range jumpers.
If this trade is truly JVG's doing, I'm really pissed. In the James for Alston debate, I was convinced that that trade was a coaching not GM decision. JVG would not use Mike James as starting PG. That's the only reason why they traded him for a starting PG. Now if they trade a high potential draftee for an average veteran (and a have to throw in a rotational guy like Swift to make it work) because the coach would not trust a rookie, that would be very infuriating.
A new ball. Composite cover (whatever that is) instead of leather. Supposedly easier to grip and bounces more consistently.
I believe it is. Check out the Chronicle articles from Justice and Blinebury. CD in the Justice article says:
Just got home right now... and all I have to about this trade say is: WTF? Should I say "kudos" to West for ripping the Rockets off?
The horror that is the Van Gundy era continues. I've come out of my desert hole long enough to see that the Rockets are still dumb. I've thought they lost it ever since they passed on Rashard Lewis. Hiring Van Gundy was the nail in the coffin. I'm sure glad I'm not shelling out major bucks for season tickets to watch them anymore. I don't really know who to blame, the coach, the GM or the owner. What a collective bunch of stooges.
JVG giving out season tickets this year.......somethign we already knew. it pisses me off cuz i feel like it was a waste of time and gas
