He's already a good player. Maybe better than Battier, and 9 years younger. He could develop into a great player. Everyone says that our window could be closing with T-Mac's health. There's a possibility that Gay could have keep it open longer.
I am interested to see how Morey plans on implementing Moneyball. How exactly do you compare a college player on a team full of stars with a current NBA player on a team that can rotate as many as 9 guys evenly? This doesnt seem in the realm of Morey's expertise, but it does seem like a move Dawson would make. He hasnt exactly been a drafting genius in his tenure here.
This is a good trade for the Rockets..Battier is a shut down defender who can guard pretty much any position on the floor. A more talented version of Bruce Bowen....a nice piece to a run to the title which is what the Rockets need. Sure Rudy Gay is the more sexier name, but hes not going to help us while TMac and Yao are in their prime. I dont like throwing in Swift in there, but if its to match salaries, then I'm all for it. We just became a serious contender with this trade
Man this is so depressing. If we cannot get something more out of it, then the only chance that this deal does not suck is Gay turns out to be a bust. Is it possible Swift got injured racing a motocycle somewhere? Or Battier twisting an ankle walking down the stairs? I just feel so sick. I never wished anything bad happened to any player before, but now...
Everybody keeps saying Battier shoots the ball well. Is 10 pts a reflexion of a good shooter? 10 pts is very average in a team where he was pretty much the second option.
Seriously...this draft will likely stand as currently set out...moreover, it has CD written all over it...Drafting what's best for the coach, not the team. He did this in the Rudy year's repeatedly...then getting "scared off" by the earlier EG fiasco - he's reactive, not pro-active. On the other hand, the Trailblazers actually had a really good draft....and who is their GM - oh yeah, Steve Patterson...wasn't that guy instrumental in putting together the Rockets championship teams?? When you think about the fact that Rashard Lewis and Shawn Marion were both potentially on the trading block. Add in the fact that the Trailblazers were able to essentially "buy" the 7th pick for Sebastian Telfair because Boston needed a PG. Take Rafer, for goodness sake. Rafer in exchange for what turned out to be Brandon Roy? Sold. Plus still having the 8th pick. Blah
Gay would've been good insurance if TMac is done. If TMac isn't it could've been the beginning of a dynasty.
I think he's saying we got ripped off because we potentially gave away a star player for a role player. I can understand people not wanting to wait for a player to develop, but sometimes that's what is best for the franchise. It's not just Rudy Gay supposedly, Swift is being dealt along w/ him.
Were's Aelliot or GATER? How do we pick up a $4.9 million salary with a $4.2 million trade exception? Does the 25% rule apply to a TE?
On a team with Pao, Eddie Jones, Mike Miller, Bobby Jackson, and Damon Stoudamire...I don't think Battier was the 2nd option, or even the 4th option when they needed points. He just filled a role, and was very good at that role. Can Battier score more if needed, I would guess-Yes. Do we need him to score more maybe, maybe not...the good thing is he has the scoring ability if needed.
dont **** mind for one second that we traded **** gay for battier, wat i mind is that we added swift, this helps us none at all....WHOSE GOING TO PLAY BAKC UP PF? CHUCK HAYES? CHUCK HAYES IS OK BUT HE SUCKS, HES NOT A 2ND PF HES A 3RD PF, my god, this cant be happening, this cant be the trade, there has to be more to it
I dont see why a coach of JVGs caliber can make such a monumental personnel decision. Its true that he is the coach and can choose which players to play at a given time, but the reason there is a general manager is to look out for the LONG-TERM interests of the team. In general, coaches are always short-term thinkers and GMs are supposed to understand the big picture. That is why its so disturbing to hear GM after GM say their coaches wanted this player or that. Im not saying to ignore coaching advice, but if coaches get to draft, you will never develop a Kobe or T-Mac or Dirk because teams are too impatient to win now rather than develop youth. Dawson has made the most mistakes of any GM I have ever seen, and Im surprised he is not compared to Isaiah Thomas in that regard. Maybe if we are lucky Dawson will coach the team next year
LOL, no fans are happy with this trade. Check out this Memphis Grizzlies forum, I didn't read through every post, but of the ones I did read, not one was happy with the trade... http://www.justbball.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=42 They apparently love Battier (referred to as the most underrated player in the league) and felt like we robbed them... lol
FIRST THE TEXANS ----NO THE ROCKETS...IS IT ME OR ARE OUR GM'S ....... LET ME CUT MYSELF OFF BEFORE I GET BANNED
FIRST THE TEXANS ----NOW THE ROCKETS...IS IT ME OR ARE OUR GM'S ....... LET ME CUT MYSELF OFF BEFORE I GET BANNED
i love this team more than anything, i was screaming jumping up and down at the party with my face painted red wen the celtics announced they picked foye, THEN WE GOT GAY AND I WAS GOING CRAZY, then we saw his rights were traded to memphis...i got mad...i got sad...i got ANGRY....i left...got a hot dog...thought for a moment...and said well....this cud work out pretty damn well, now battier can defend the best player on the other team except unless the player is a pg or center....then i hear swift is in the trade.........now i want to kill somebody......then i think to myself there has to be more to the trade......then i see somebody say that swift is trash and this really is the trade.......and now i am wondering....can i please just get 5 minutes of talking time with CD and JVG to show them exactly what they are doing?
