A top three talent falls in our laps at pick 8 and we trade him away.
Complete stupidity. Well, these are the same guys that traded Richard Jefferson and our other 1st that year for Eddie Griffin.
Either way, Gay is a remarkable talent. In a few years, he should be great. Battier is just mediocre at best. He may be better for the team right now, but T-Mac won't be T-Mac forever, and with concern about his back, Gay would have undoubtedly been the better player for the long haul.

Rudy Gay was the player I was hoping the Rockets would get all along. To have him fall to us, and we trade the pick away for a player I don't care for. That kills me.

i cannot believe we are going to trade a young man with an insurmontable amount of talent, athleticism, and potential to form an absolutely phenomenal 3-some, for SHANE BATTIER!

this is so far from making sense i'm speechless. so we DON'T want to be young, athletic, and versatile??? we want essentially a 6'7 david wesley for a guy who could be future multi-time all-star? i love the rockets and always will, but this single move could set the franchise back for a 4-5 years.

we had a guy who very well could have been a top 3 pick fall to us at #8, and we decide to trade him for shane battier? this is so stupid. i hope the rumor is false, but i fear that we really are that dumb.

Well, let's wait and see. Battier does NOT fit under our trade exception, so at a minimum, we have to be sending a player out in return. There could be more to this...

This is just what the ESPN guys are saying, there hasn't been any official word...Remember the supposed trade between Atlanta and Houston that was a done deal according to ESPN....I hope this is just a rumor and ESPN is incorrect...I think Gay would be a perfect fit in H-town, plus Battier has a long term contract.

Not yet...theyre probably still doing the paperwork. This is gonna be worse than RJ for Eddie Griffin.

I'm dissapointed, but realistically Battier will probably help the Rockets more the next couple years than Rudy Gay would have.

Battier is one of the best wing defenders in the game, and he's a pretty good post defender as well. He's got a solid perimeter jumper, and he's one of those "glue guys". A very good compliment to Yao and McGrady, when you think about it.

OMG why do the rockets want battier. He is a ok outside 3 pt shooter, ok defender but he didn't perform well at all in the playoffs this year. Rudy gay was a good decision but then i heard of a trade? i thought it mustchave been a trade + a pick but no its straight up! Whos going to play shooting guard if david wes leaves? Who is going to be our 3rd scorer! not battier They shoulda picked jj redick if they wanted shooting! at least we would be better with him rather than battier! dangit, Rockets are going to make it to the playoffs but it doesn't look like a championship team.

NO NO NO! I hope this is all bs- either it's a smokescreen, or it was a pre-draft handshake deal with Memphis to get the #8... regardless, getting Gay at #8 is a godsend just outside of getting Yao, and if we trade...ugh.

Before we jump to conclusions lets wait until we have all the details. I interested to see what the Rockets logic is behind this deal if it actually goes down.

I bet we get Memphis' pick too. If we want an long athlete, how about James White? Or we could pick up a pretty good point guard and athlete in Jordan Farmar.

I am almost crying over here, and damn near as depressed as I was after the Stockton shot. Battier alone can't be worth a top 10 pick in any draft. Throw in the #24 pick and it's still not equal value. Our management can't be this stupid.

I love this team but dumb ass moves like this make it real hard to be supportive. The #8 for Battier??? Come on man............
