The funny thing is Battier is going to be a fan favorite by his third week. Great fit for this team. Him and McGrady will switch between the 3/4 depending on the tougher defensive assignment.

The sad thing is that we got him for Rudy Gay and Stromile Swift. Surely we got something more out of this deal? We couldn't even get #24 from Memphis, that's how desperate JVG is to keep his job NEXT year.

I'm just glad we didn't give up last year's 24th pick. That might have set this franchise back decades. Fortunately, we were in a position to give up the 8th pick this year.

With the stros in a losing streak, I thought to myself today that the draft would cheer me up. Now, I wish we had a do-over and with the possibility of shipping out the rox management. Oh well, c'est la vie. :(

i really think you're on to something. newspapers always love to jump... i mean, dewey once defeated truman. but it makes me wonder -- why else did stern not announce the trade?

not final. not the end of the road. not all is lost.
there's yet a wisp of hope, a glimmer for gay/head.

Well, I guess I'm in the vast minority here in favor of the trade. Why?

    1. The Rockets obviously didn't think Rudy Gay was all that. Despite his athleticism, neither did 7 teams above us. Even if he developed a motor, he would still be years away from contributing.

    2. When is the Rocket's window to win a championship with Yao and TMac? Now. Battier is quality depth that will contribute right away. He has shot 39% or better 3 out of 4 years in the league, and also shoots a high percentage from the field at 48%. He is a perfect fit - a good defender (on one of the league's best defensive teams), a good spot-up shooter, and a smart player. If we came out of this draft with a project that might not help us win for a few years, it would have done our stars an injustice.

    3. We are hopefully getting rid of our dumbest player - a clear waste of a roster space. It is clear after a year that his nickname of Slow-mile was accurate and I don't think he would have got playing time at all if we didn't need to showcase him for a trade. If it isn't Stromile, we are getting rid of Juwan's bad contract.

    4. I think there is a part of the trade we don't know about yet - hopefullly this will be good as well.

Have faith in CD. All will be well. (I hope  )

    1) Rafer
    2) Battier/Head
    3) T-mac/Bogans
    4) Sign Wilcox/Howard/Novak
    5) Yao/Deke

Hopefully the Grizz are throwing in Lowrey or giving us cash so we can sign a Mike James or Chris Wilcox.

Worst case scenario which really isnt all that bad. Battier is proven and as much as I was pissed about giving up Gay and Battier's 10-5 stat line... he's reliable, has size and would be a perfect 3rd option that ISN'T GREEDY and he would know his role. Brandon Roy actually reminds me a lot of Shane Battier only hes got the 5 whatever so years of experience.

It just bothers me we gave up Swift as well because we are left with JHO so I'm hoping we can sign Wilcox somehow. But really it's not the end of the world.

This lineup is pretty weak. Looks to me like an 8 seed team

There's a few hundred posters who are saying that... but the trade is still an impending reality.

okay, this is what I want you to do:
1st) get rid of the red
2nd) type in lower case, complete sentences if you can
3rd) take the font size down a notch

    ...this isn't AIM.
Then maybe someone will take you seriously.

If Battier is a BYC player, he is really hard to move. i'm seriously guessing a 3rd team is involved. maybe miles and Roy for Battier and a futuer second round pick?

You know, I don't think I'm even smart even to screw up the Rockets draft worse than CD and Morey. It never would have occured to me to send Swift and the #8 to Memphis for Battier. Hats off the the Rockets' front office. They're better men than I.

CD is losing his job the next season. What kind of faith can you have in him?

I totally agree. Battier is the guy that will be asked to guard Ginobilli, Josh Howard, Marion and even Kobe. This will save TMac a lot of wear and tear over the course of the season. And, at least according to this site, ( http://www.82games.com/rosenbaum3.htm ) he is not just a good defender but the best at his position.
