EXACTLY! Being shortsighted is only gonna leave Yao in the same situation McGrady was in with Orlando once Hill went down. Putting all your faith in 2 players and having one of them go down with injury doesn't leave you with many options for the present or future.

And for all this talk about Gay being a bust and passive or whatever...just know that Uconn just had 4 guys drafted in the 1st round and Gay was the one who lead them in scoring. Villenuava was called passive; until his last season at Uconn specificly his tournment run Ben Gordon had that same rep as well. Thats just how it is at Uconn.

Just think...2 weeks people were debating whether or not to take Ronnie Brewer or JJ Reddick with the 8th pick...no one really thought Gay would be there at 8. Now with a chance to get him you pass him up for a "veteran." Make no mistake I really like Battier's game...he is actually a perfect fit for Houston.....but I sick and tired of "fit" players.

Houston had chance to hit a homerun but they settle for a double.

If Jerry West desperately wanted for Gay, CD should at least force West to take Juwan Howard instead of Swift......

"Has a very ugly shot, due to a broken elbow he suffered a couple of years ago, almost no arc in his shot. lack of outside shooting has him playing PF, despite having a SF's style of play and a SG's body weight"

    Sounds about right.

QUESTION - do you have to trade a draft picks rights on draft night?

Sense we were not effecting any other draft picks tonight, what is the hurry. If they did not like Gay, couldn't they just trade him anytime for the highest bidder after draft night?

I might find a way to be okay with this deal if Johnson and Lowry are included.

    Novak
    Lowry
    Alex Johnson
    Battier

    for Gay and Swift.

    maybe

That would be a great signing. Then in 2007, we can package him and our top 10 pick for Nick Collison.

If they didn't want Gay why did they draft him? Don't tell me all the guys out of the top 7 that were selected could not help this organization or sparked any interest in fullfilling our need to get younger, better shooting and atheliticism?

    Bull ****t

Basically we rented Swift for a year and returned him like a library book, gave up a top ten pick for batteer ( I can't even spell his name) and some other srub that will make the moeny work. pathetic.

We exchanged shot blocking, athleticim, semi youth + even younger, more upside, draftee for a older scrub and a no name money scrub. Genious.

Swift and number 8 pick == >>> impact player third scorer not scrub and scrub.

All this management has done good in the past few years is making some good patch work projects i.e. mike james, barry, sura but as the title implies these changes don't last.

What you need is a solid foundation partilculary when the core you have is fragile (bad back plus bad foot) the third scoring option is essential which could have been Gay (who has a hell alot more upside then a 28 yr old scrub plus filler). the 3rd potential scorer basically fell on our laps but we toss him over board like he had lepersy. If Gay wasn't the guy again why did we draft him????

With that third scorer set this dumb ass management could work until their hearts content in all the patch work projects tweaking scrubs here and there but first you must get the foundation laid. A house with bad foundations will tumble down in the end no matter how much artifical support you later provide it.

    We just pissed that away.

Why is everyone in such a Gay fever??

Battier may not have much room to improve, the so-called upsides, but it doens't mean he sucks. He is already a pretty solid player.

Gay may have a lot of potentials, but it could mean he is just not very good right now. That's why he still have lot of rooms to improve. There is no guarantee that he will improve.

What will happen when he gets the big fat NBA contract? Does he have the fire, the "professionalism" to play night in and night out? We dont' know that.
But we do know shane will bring it every night.

Memphis can roll the dice becuase they have players who can play shane's position. We don't have that luxury.

I haven't read every page in this thread so i'm not sure whether or not this has been brought up yet......

Battier is a Full BYC player meaning his contract is VERY hard to move. Since draft picks count for $0 and considering Battier's BYC status, what does this mean for us?

    Howard for Battier doesn't work
    Swift for Battier doesn't work
Hell, Swift AND Howard for Battier doesn't work

Clearly, there is a lot more to this trade than is being advertised. None of this really adds up for the Rockets and considering Battier's contract situation, I would love to know just exactly how he is going to be traded?

Please, any capologists or more informed posters please try to shed some light on this for me.
