Rudy Gay will most likely be an improvement over the veteran player who we just acquired. Not only that, IF Tracy only has 3-4 years of his prime left, don't you think it would make sense to bring along someone who could potentially replace him when the time comes?

So prior to the draft would anyone here have traded the #8 and Swift for Battier? If someone would have posted that we would have demanded them to be banned........

Battier is not worth a top 10 pick. I don't care if the pick was used to get my grandmother.

    Interesting point. That's something I didn't consider.

It's also possible they're waiting for the rookies to be signed before they do it. Either way, it's a horrible trade from a talent standpoint. We basically traded our 10/5 guy for their 10/5 guy+filler...and threw in the #8 pick just for kicks.

This is by FAR the worst deal I've ever seen the rockets do on draft day!

Gay might not be one of the best this year or maybe he was??? We'll never know. AT WORST, he's better than Shane Battier on Battier's best day. That's what gets me. I was pissed about this whole trade BEFORE I came on here and found out we THREW IN STOMILE SWIFT!!!!! WTF????? I'm not a huge fan of Swift but COME ON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! IF ANYTHING MEMPHIS SHOULD GIVE US ANOTHER PLAYER OR PICK. I don't get it!!!???? This sucks.

This surpasses the passing of Rashard Lewis, the pick of Griffin over Jefferson or the trade of that, and a whole bunch I'm sure I've not forgotten completely that I can't think of right now.

We'll make the playoffs but we gave up so much....for WHAT??????

I'm glad this was just a mock draft. When is the real one?

You bet. Let it be known I am in the minority on this trade, which I am in favor of. I think pchan summarized it best in his post. Battier could be the missing piece for this Rockets team.

Much of the brouhaha surrounding Rudy Gay is simply because of his last name is fun, huh? :)

It's funny- In general, I try to downplay my excitement about things to avoid disappointment, but somehow the Rockets managed to tunnel so far below my already low expectations.

It's impressive, really. Well done, guys.

I've got homework due tommorrow and I cant focus on it. If I were Les, JVG, CD and Morey would all have pink slips on their desks tommorrow morning. I swear the people paid to make decisions......

There must be another player or picks involved. on face value, this is far too one sided to even begin to fathom.

Don't know if I'd go that far, but we won't know til the season starts, and we actually see how well the Rockets play with Battier in the lineup. That's why they play the games... and that's why I'm not especially concerned about this trade one way or the other.

It helped my sig, for sure... :D

At the very LEAST, the draft rights to Gay could have been used as a trading chip in a deal for a veteran better than freaking Battier.

If I was compassionate, I'd send umbrellas to CD and Morey for the **** storm they're in.

This thread is going to get even more brutal as the posters get more drunk as the evening wears on.

Guys, get over the SHOCK of the trade. Look at the FACTS! The money does NOT match up. There is something else to the trade guys. Now we will have to be patient and see what else we will be receiving.

Why didn't the Texans just draft Reggie Bush and throw him into the deal? I'm glad the baseball draft is too long and you don't know 99.9% of the players anyways or i'd probably be devistated over this year's picks as well.

As for this "Win Now" theory, i doubt Shane Battier is the mising link. Last i checked he was only one mediocre man who can only play one position at a time.

Well, it's been a great year Houston. I've got a bad feeling about the next shuttle launch already. We've alreardy got one of the fattest, polluted, and violent cities. Can't God throw us a bone?

everyone is focused on how battier is not worth trading Gay. While I agree, I am almost more concerned about giving up swift as well. Without swift, we have a huge hole at power forward. I'm not saying I was in love with with him or anything, but is hayes really going to get big minutes next season? Are we just going to snatch up someone else for the mle and ignore other needs? This trade sucks so much is not even funny.
