Tonight is one of the nights that makes me happy that the NBA is at the bottom of the sports I care about.

    1. Astros
    2. Texans
    3. Longhorns (all sports)
    6. Rockets

There is no way they can spin this. There either has to be something else in the works or the Rockets are the dumbest organizations out there. I could've been convinced that Battier for Gay was the right trade, but throwing in Stromile is absolutely unacceptable. Not only do we give up someone who has the potential to be a superstar, we give up a potentially explosive player on a good team.

The Rockets have made a huge, huge mistake. It's what the Spainards call "El Terrible".

Live it up while you have it, this will probably be the only time in the history of the world that people from Texas are Pro-Gay.

i am praying that there will be more to this trade then shown now, i think i am in the minority here but i belive swift can become a 20/10 guy with more playing time, despite all of his bad decision makin he has great athleticism and can shoot a mid range jumper.
But if this trade goes through there better be more involved in this.

the more you think about this, it really seems far fetched, something else is going down or hopefully we queered the deal.

I guess we have the all "nice guys" team: Juwan, TMac, Yao, Battier, Mutombo (charitable). Sura is the only guy with a mean streak, and he's done.

Okay which one of you fools, just called into AM760 in San Antonio and rapped about Battier...we don't need you to make the organization look even worse :(

SETTLE DOWN EVERYONE! Look at this logically. Our fate rides with TMac and Yao. NOT this years draft pick. With TMac's back he may have only 3-4 prime years left (if that). We don't have time to develop a 19 year old kid who will hit his prime in 4 years when McGrady is on the down turn. We need to win NOW. So I can completely understand trading for a veteran player.

Rudy Gay MIGHT turn out to be a great player. But if he was so great why did 7 other teams pass on him? And now we're dumping Swift's salary so that should free up some money for a FA or 2 with the MLE.

Yeah it's frustrating to have a young talent like Gay come and go like that, BUT you have to understand what they are trying to do. If you want to develop Gay as your next star the keep him and trade Tmac, because the 2 of them will not hit their stride together.

All this being said, if this was their plan they could have done better than Battier IMO. But he's going to be your staring 2 guard and I'd much rather have him than David Wesley, Luther Head, or Keith Bogans. He's an above average all around player that is smart and plays hard.

Now we just need to go out in FA and get a scorer and we should be good. I still like Mike James coming in off the bench.

what i dont understand about this trade is that we give up a lot of the one thing we dont have athleticism and young players with upside to get someone who is at best an above average nba starter player in battier. one top of that we trade with someone in our division. that is an ultimate no-no. not only do we help someone who we are directly in competition with but we also hurt ourselves.

the fact that this trade cant be done till the 12th makes me have to believe there is more to this than meets the eye. i think someone mentioned there is probably a third team involved in this who is not giving up any picks in this particular draft nor receiving any which makes it impossible for them trade anyone today. i dont think if swift is involved in the trade that he is going to memphis. jerry basically let the guy walk last year because he didnt like him and has a replacement in warrick. i can imagine other team getting swift and us getting someone (J R Smith?) in return.

but if it is swift+gay for battier then i would say CD has gotten senile on us and that morey should replace him right away.

i just have a bit more faith in CD than that he has gotten on the short end of the stick on trades before but i dont think he has ever been shafted like this. (yes the EG trade, but remember eg was hyped to be the #1 pick that year and i bet if you ask here the majority of the people here were excited to get EG) This trade is tremendously one-sided from the get-go

There is no way this can be the whole deal.

I just don't think we're going into the season with Howard and Hayes only at PF. There has got to be something else. We better be getting a solid starter, or a nice role player and a pick with this. Otherwise...well, let's not talk about the otherwise until we know the whole story...something is up.

If Van Gundy forced this trade as a lot of people are speculating, I'm certain the reason is because he didn't wanna deal with a rookie who's just shy of his 20th birthday. With Battier, he gets a veteran which is more to his liking.

And this is all the more reason his ass needs to be run NOW!!! All last season we heard about how the Rockets needed to get younger, deeper, and more athletic. Along comes a lottery pick and an opportunity to use it on a player like Rudy Gay and they in turn not only deal him for the older, less athletic Shane Battier, but they give up Stromile Swift as well.

I agree the window of opportunity with T-Mac and Yao won't be open much longer, but why is it that we seem to be completely incapable of blending veterans with younger, less experienced players while other franchises like San Antonio, Dallas, and Phoenix manage to do it effortlessly and avoid stretches of 5 trips to the lottery in 7 years?

I'm a diehard Rockets fan. I've followed this team religiously for 14 years. But this is their last chance. If they don't show real progress this season, and by progress I mean a trip to the 2nd round at the very least, then I'm done with them. End of story. Les has been sitting on his spoiled rotten ass for far too long and allowed management to run this franchise into the ground. If he's not gonna hold them accountable as an owner, I'm at least gonna do so as a fan.

i wish i had faith like yall, but realy, this trade is realistic if u think about jvg. i guess its not that bad, so far our lineup looks like this

    rafer/bob
    t-mac/head
    Battier/bowen
    howard/hayes/novak
    yao/mutombo

    compare too

    rafer/bob/
    t-mac/head
    gay/bowen
    howard/swift/hayes/novak
    yao/mutombo

i wish it was howard instead of swift, and they would give us hakim? its still a bad trade, but not that bad.
