I hear that. I think these are the same guys who thought signing Swift made the rockets an instant contender. Shane Battier is an intangible guy, think Mario Elie, but bigger, better and nicer. Perfect fit for Van Gundy.
I like the trade. Shane Battier is a proven pro. He led his college team to NCAA championship. He was also the player of the year in college. In the NBA, he has been consistent. He plays hard on both end of the floor. He also can shoot from the outside. Furthermore, he is one of the few players who averages over a steal and a block. He is also an above average rebounder. I am pretty sure he is also a great teammate. On the other hand, what have STro and Gay done? Both guys have a lot of "potentials". However, are they going to convert those potentials into useful energy? So far, they haven't. Gay was not the top college player in the country. He probably wasn't even in the top ten. Swift so far has done nothing in his NBA career. He has consistently spent more times on the bench than on the court.
The Rockets will be 1st round fodder for years to come. Other teams' bench players are better than any starter outside of TMac and Yao, and we blew the opportunity to get a gifted player at a rookie salary for 3 years. Look on the bright side. At least we're not living in a 3rd world country eating rocks.

At first i was furious with this move but as ive calmed myself i realize this isnt that bad we r as good as the pistons with battier if we add mj! look at the matchups mj not as good as billups tmac much better than rip battier as good as tayshaun almost yao much better than sheed however we dont matchup with big ben!
Have patience. From the looks of this, this is just the front-end of a 3 team trade involving multiple players. For example, besides Memphis, this could potentially involve a team like Philly, with Iverson ending up with one of the teams involved, and Houston getting assets from a third team. Just an example. But thats why it could now seem lopsided. The league needs time to approve it and make sure it floats. After all, this trade has NOT been announced by the league yet.
Well said, I cant wait to see how CD and JVG try and spin this. This trade makes no sense. The rockets just pissed away assets plain and simple. Everything is going to hinge on T-Macs back next year and you give away a potential all star in Gay. Unbelievable.
