If it's Gay+Swift for Battier straight up, it is OUTRAGEOUS! That's One MLE + No.8 Pick plus a year's suffering for a 10pts/5rbs player! It's stupidity beyond description! Fire CD, fire JVG, fire Morey! It's a pity that Les can't be fired! Get real and cancel the deal, or make Jerry West pay a LOT more!
ARRGGH!! THIS MAKES NO SENSE!! The only thing Battier brings to the table is defense. Gay has the tools to be TWICE the defender Battier is! When Bucher announced this, I figured he was just making things up. If this trade officially goes down, I think it would be appropriate to form a lynch mob.
That is it for me. I am not renewing my season tickets. I am embarras to be a Rockets fan. This organization is a disgrace. They just have wasted a great opportunity to get to the next level. The parts of this trade make sense. Battier is a good fit on this team -- good size, position of need, good shooter, good defender. We needed to get rid of Swift who is not very good and was not working out here either. The guy we wanted, Roy, was gone. And yet, so far this trade is the biggest ***-****** I ever heard of. With some cajoling, I could maybe concede to a trade of Gay for Battier and #24, though somewhat disappointing. Or, Swift for Battier and #24 perhaps, though I hoped his value in the market was higher. But, Swift and #8 for Battier, and maybe not even #24? That is beyond credulity. Forget whether Gay is the second coming of Eddie Griffin or what. Battier is maybe worth Swift at most. You don't give up two assets for him. I have to believe there are more guys coming from Memphis to equalize this trade. Otherwise, they're telling me Swift has a negative value. As much as I dislike him, that can't be so.
Chad Ford's analysis - The Rockets traded Gay and Stromile Swift to the Grizzlies for Shane Battier. I'm not a huge fan of this trade for Houston. They gave up a lot of talent for a guy who's a nice role player. I know Swift wasn?t panning out, but the price was high to get rid of him. I?m surprised the Rockets didn?t keep him. Gay was the consensus No. 1 pick early in the year, based on his size, athleticism and skill. He's a hard worker, and if he ever gets hungry, he could be awesome. The concern is that he?s a little soft and not aggressive enough. Overall, this was a nice trade for Memphis.
West just pretty much admitted it on ESPN........even talked about how they had Rudy as one of the top 2 in the draft. Out of every dumb move the Rocks have done this could be the dumbest.
From Chad Ford (on Memphis night) Love this pick and love this draft for the Grizzlies. They lost Shane Battier and gained Rudy Gay, Stromile Swift and Lowry. Lowry's built like a NFL defensive back. He's a big-time defensive presence and really burns up the court. I like what Jerry West did here. He brought in Swift, who can play center, upgraded his athleticism at the three with a guy the Raptors seriously considered taking No. 1, and then juiced up their point guard position. I think the Grizzlies got three starters tonight. I expect West to get an "A" grade tonight -- the first one I've given him since he took over the Grizzlies. Worst day of my life
