Its being reported that several truck loads of bottled water have been seen arriving at Toyota Center, they are serious this upcoming season....
But if you're trading the swap to one of those teams and they finish with a higher pick the swap is worthless. The key is to deal to a team that is likely the same or worse than us. That would reduce the risk of say moving from 2 to 8. Also, teams trading for such a swap would clearly be trying to tank themselves making that scenario less likely.
I know it's not been discussed in this thread but what in the future can be done about changing the nature of pick swaps? I assume the swap options are locked to the two original teams. Rockets are currently screwed with using the one next year unless the Nets win the lottery. How set in stone are these rules? I am assuming the written contract of a trade specifically states Rockets own pick swapped for Nets pick and it will always be that way unless otherwise stated. Probably a question for bimathug. Could the Rockets use any 1st round pick as a swap tool, say 2023 Bucks pick? Could the Rockets trade a swap option to another team? If we get the first pick and Nets second pick could we trade with a team C picking 30th to get that value?
Let’s just put it this way: If the Rockets were offering their 2023 pick unprotected in the Kevin Durant sweepstakes, the Rockets would have the best asset to offer the Nets of any team out there. In no way should the Rockets entertain offering that pick in any deal. Even for Kevin Durant if they were silly enough to entertain doing that. Take your chances at both seeing how good Green/Smith can be this year while also maximizing your odds at another top 3 pick. HOWEVER I do think the Silas lack of playbook and AAU style of encouragement of chaos needs to stop. You can still allow Green and Smith chances to grow while having some sort of disciplined system. But no… under no circumstances should the Rockets be offering their pick this year.
Trading the swap for someone you really think fits your re-build would be a no-brainer for the Rockets. It is highly unlikely that the Nets are lottery bound. If they trade Durant and Westbrook they are going to get back a good player or two. Probably the only way that pick turns to gold is if they don’t trade the pick and Durant gets hurt and misses the season. I think other teams see this too, and won’t give us much of anything for just that swap. It could be a sweetener in a deal where we attach Tate, Gordon, and/or KMJ, though.
damn straight. this pick could be our future superstar, even better than green and smith. If the rockets have any sense, they should immediately move KPJ to the bench as a sixth man, and have tyty, nix try out for the starting spot. this should help our tanking process and devalue porters next contract. He's not in a position to cause anymore drama cause it'll lower his next contract even more.
Dumb question: If we trade the swap, it's the swap with the Nets, right? We still keep our own pick, right?
